Locket
The Void is close to the edge of Mount Verla. The Pyrii refuse to leave and they have a week, maybe two at best, before they're swallowed by the Void.
They don't want to abandon their home. So I want to move it.
I need help. If you're willing to help, no matter where you are in the world, I can make sure you get here within a few hours. Respond privately and I'll tell you what needs to happen.
Please, we can buy them time. I just need help.

[He says it in jest, but there's a slightly manic edge to it. He knew this was next to impossible with his power as cut off as it was. But it was all he could think of. It was a chance. It was hope.]
( locket, audio private. )
[ stir, repeat; zuko's cynicism hasn't been burned away by wan's own attempt to get him on board. given all wan has to say is zuko, i need your help and he's there with bells on, he's a little difficult to convince when it comes to moving a volcano at the possible expense of the avatar. ]
What if it's tomorrow? What if you move the volcano and the Void just picks up speed because it has nothing to eat?
( locket, audio private. )
[Assuming they could get the mountain off the ground, anyway.
He paused, but when he next spoke, his hopeful words were finally broken. All he had was the sad reality of truth.]
If the void gets so far south that we have to move the mountain again, then I don't know if we'll be able to stop it.
( locket, audio private. )
[ he doesn't mean to, though. so often, the best ideas comes from his negativity and refusal to have any hope. and, he's found, having someone to prove something to always does help with one's motivation to do better. maybe he's helping wan in the long run, but he can sense he isn't right now. there'll be enough time for him to be negative in the near future when he sees this plan implemented, but for now, he supposes he should act more like a friend and less like the prince who had been exiled for three years. ]
[ zuko sighs audibly, rubbing his fingers hard against his temple. he wishes uncle was here, too. he'd give wan some hope. but where he thinks to try and impersonate him, zuko opts for being himself this time. his voice is softer, no longer low. ]
You're the Avatar. You can do anything. [ he's seen it, first hand — his reincarnation in aang doing incredible things. it had to have stemmed from wan. he wouldn't have agreed to lend him a hand if he didn't believe in him. ] But we have to pick a good place to move it. You're not ... [ he hesitates for a moment. ] You're not at full power. You have to be careful.
( locket, audio private. )
[The confidence in his voice rose as he focused on the task at hand. He couldn't let this get to him. He couldn't give up. He had to try this.]
Can you cool the earth as we cross it? Take the heat out so we don't all burn our feet as we march?
( locket, audio private. )
[ so often is he fighting fire with fire, he's sure he's once pulled it from a heat source to leave said source cold. it's another way for him to assist, when zuko feels as though all he can really do is bend any fire and teleport. bending the earth is far more important, but he realises that where he can't move rocks or even crack the earth and build tunnels like toph and wan, he can assist where wan's attention is fractured. ]
I wish I could teleport the whole volcano. It'd be easier.
( locket, audio private. )
I'm glad I can count on you, Zuko. You're the only reason this might be possible.
( locket, audio private. )
[ his own surprise is evident in the high pitch of his tone — and his own uncertainty. he's only ever really been given credit for being a failure. for pushing azula higher upon her pedestal, for opening ozai's eyes to how poorly he has grown. ]
You're the one who came up with this idea. I'm just making sure you don't get injuried ... too badly.
( locket, audio private. )
( locket, audio private. )
[ really tried. zuko knows he can — it may take a few days, but if someone was to really put their legs into it ... ]
[ it feels kind of nice, actually being of use. though he's not so sure if he could ever try and teleport with his bending, asking for it as a boon has been one of zuko's incredibly smart choices. he's just glad it can assist others, rather than only cutting out the middle man when it comes to travel times. ]
How many people haven't told you how horrible of an idea this is?
[ how many people does he have to hold hands with and play nice? ]
( locket, audio private. )
[Which was actually a pretty decent number once he took the time to count.]
( locket, audio private. )
( locket, audio private. )
[Bending is such a strange word for it, Zuko! How can you not see that?]
( locket, audio private. )
You can teach non-benders how to bend?
[ is that what he's saying? zuko's never heard of it — and if he has, he's forgotten it. benders are the only ones capable of manipulating their chosen element. katara could never manipulate fire just as he can never control water. but to think he could ... ]
[ his voice lifts from its low tone. ]
That's stupid!
( locket, audio private. )
I can't give them the power of the elements. I can teach them to use magic in a similar way. It's not quite the same, but I spent a lot of time figuring out how to tap into the magic everyone in this world is supposed to have and use it to help give myself more power. And doing that, I was able to figure out how to use magic to imitate the power of the elements. I've already taught one person the basics of moving water. I'm pretty sure I can teach them earth, too.
[He just didn't think he could make it so they could use both elements at the same time. What he did because of Raava was not something he could pass on.]
( locket, audio private. )
And a quick lesson in how to move the earth with magic is going to be enough to move a volcano? [ where one would look at zuko and think he's being a negative nancy, he thinks he's simply being realistic. ] None of them are Toph. None of them are you. I couldn't even bend it like you and I know how to control an element.
( locket, audio private. )
( locket, audio private. )
[ he sighs. ]
I can't teleport seven people out of danger, Wan.
( locket, audio private. )
[At least as far as the void was concerned. The pyrii was another matter that Wan would deal with when the time came. For the moment, it was a potential problem he was willing to ignore.]
( locket, audio private. )
[ despite thinking he could, if he was to take two people at a time, zuko doubts he can teleport fast enough. that thing had snuck up on them without them even looking — and zuko's certain he's been facing that direction for the last few months of the previous year. ]
You can't bend it back. Nothing can stop it. You should just ... be prepared for the worst.
( locket, audio private. )
[Wan had already been close enough to it to feel the edge of those winds and he wasn't going to risk getting closer. If the void's approach got to the point he could feel it again, he wouldn't hesitate to send everyone else away.]
I'm not going to risk their lives against the Void, Zuko. I promise.
( locket, audio private. )
[ he sighs, but his voice is as strong as stone. ] The first sign of this failing, we're getting out of there.
[ he really means the tenth sign of them failing, as he's never given up in his life. even though it had appeared as though zuko would rather lay in defeat, he's always picked himself up to march onward. he knows wan has to be the same. why else would he take on such a great, impossible task if he wasn't keen on trying until his own fingers bled? ]
( locket, audio private. )
...]
You'll be here soon?
[No. He couldn't agree to that. So he didn't. He hoped the topic change wouldn't be terribly and completely obvious.]
