1st Circuit - Text for Both Courts, Video-locked for Unseelie

[There's probably a better way to do this, but at least he can put out feelers and see what he's working with. Since the decimation of Caer Scima Hiro's been a little more than bitter toward the Seelie and while he doesn't want to have anything to do with any of them, he realizes that as a scientist he needs to gather as much information as possible.]

It's been a long month, hasn't it? I'm not used to any of this. Monsters? Destroying people's castles? It's weird. I was getting ready for class one day and the next I came here and then the fighting started. I think I'm going to fall really, really behind in my homework. Makes me wonder…what do you miss most about home? I can't be the only one who really misses advanced tech (computers, video games, even the old stuff like VCRs would be okay at this point.) And I know, I know, the Station exists but it's not the same. So, what about you guys?

[If he can figure out what people value? Maybe they can use that to their advantage, too.]

[Unseelie Locked]

[Now comes the hard part. With that out of the way the video function of the locket clicks on and it's obvious that the locket's hanging from something in front of Hiro. He's in a room at the Station, ever-recognizable blue hoodie hanging loosely on his frame but the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. More importantly than that? He looks a little nervous.]

…hi. My name is Hiro Hamada. I don't know most of you, but I hope you're listening anyway.

[He pauses and looks to the side, evidently looking at someone else who's in the room with him. Deep breath, Hiro.]

It's not a secret that we lost this battle pretty bad. That's a fact, but I think there's something we can do about it to help recover. I know there are other people that don't know how to really fight, or there are people who can only fight with weapons. What if we could do something more than that?

[Give him a second and he's holding up his hand. It looks as though he might completely freeze up but after a short moment a small fireball appears in the palm of his hand. He wants to put it out immediately, but he pauses long enough to at least look at the locket again.]

I couldn't do this when I first got here. [And the fireball vanishes.] Think about how much stronger we'd be as a court if everybody could wield a couple of spells. Even if it's not something you want to use for offense even picking up a few for defense is better than nothing. I know there're a lot of magic users here but…well, Lemina and I have been working on something pretty cool.

[He's going to lean forward and pick up what looks like a piece of paper with a class list and a list of elemental spells written on it to show the camera.]

The Guild's designed to not only teach people how to unlock their own magic ability but hone it and build up to becoming a better magician. We have a few ideas how to use it to help our side of this war. We're going to start classes soon for anybody who's even kinda curious. [A pause.] Look, I didn't even really believe in magic before I got here and knowing the little bit I learned saved me back there. It'd be really cool if you guys considered it and you can always ask Lemina or me if you have questions.

[Actually…he looks off screen toward where Lemina's sitting.] Maybe we should do that now?

[ooc: This is actually going to be open to both Seelie and Unseelie because of the mage university being started by Tzilan just outside of Redgate. Lemina's been putting up flyers around the Station and Hiro just doesn't realize it and has a very strong bias against the Seelie. As an aside, Lemina will also be teaching classes at said-university on her own, but will be keeping the Guild as something separate. edit: also Lemina might pop into some threads as well!]

Like a flare. [He has to wonder what would happen if it was a group of only children from the most powerful gods versus a group made up of kids from different parents. He'll turn off his science-brain soon, but it's not every day you meet these kind of people.] Do the monsters here chase you guys down too?

There's gotta be a way to do it. If they can open channels or whatever to bring us here, then they can make it so we can travel to other worlds instead of going back to our own. It just doesn't make sense otherwise.

[Yeah...he hears ya there, buddy.] Then you just work on getting better, just like everything else. It's all we can do.

Exactly, and no, we haven't had any monster attacks. It's been like a nice vacation for us.

[Super nice, to be quite honest. A shame that it's still a "save the world" type thing. Honestly, he wants a short break from being asked to do the impossible...but, at the same time, Nico's aware that he just will never be like that. It's a demigod's life to do the impossible and fight against the worst odds the Fates can give you.]

As far as I know, it's the Monarchs who have that kind of power. I don't know if asking them about it will be smart, all things considered.

[Some things might be best not knowing about.]

Sometimes, it's all we've got to keep on going.

[After all, it had been the only way he hadn't gotten totally lost in grief and mixed feelings in the wake of Bianca's death. "Be better, learn to control it, find a way to save whoever you can, don't let them die like Bianca had."]

I'd ask if you know how crazy all of that sounds, but I'm pretty sure you already know. If this is your idea of a vacation…[Man. He can only imagine though and he's glad he's only a superhero and not a superbeing. ]

I mean probably asking them now is a bad idea but I don't see why we can't ask them in the future. We're here helping them, aren't we? They can at least help us by giving us a real answer.

[Of course some things are best not knowing about, but that's never stopped Hiro.]

And sometimes there's that. [There's a lull of silence because yeah…they definitely have a mutual understanding.]

…so. Who are you?

The war isn't. [He sighs, and there's a hint of frustration in it.] Actually, it's the third one I've been in a kind of soldier position for. I was a civilian during another one when I was younger.

Just be careful in how you present it, honestly. The Monarchs can be very...touchy, from what I've heard. [Really, it's a good thing Nico applies Greek gods logic to them. It's worked so far.

There's a dry chuckle.]

Nico di Angelo. And you are?

Okay so you've been some part of four wars and you're how old? [Sigh.] Wait, maybe don't answer that.

I've heard the same thing, but it'll be fine. Trust me. I know how to make a presentation.

[He's really, really glad Nico can't see his face at least because he's not sure he could actually present himself to the monarchs.]

Hiro. [Nope no last name yet Nico, how dumb do you think he is.

...granted there are literally no other Hiros in this stupid world, so there's an awkward pause.]

Hamada. Hiro Hamada. [Nailed it.]

[There's an uncomfortable pause.] I'm 14.

[Time shenanigans with World War II and two mythological-based wars, and now a fairy war. Huzzah.]

I think you'll be good as long as you don't make assumptions or sass them.

[Seriously, he's not stupid enough to sass the people who can very easily take away his powers.

There's a small, wry smile on Nico's face, even if Hiro can't see it. He's also putting some trust in the kid that he won't sell him out to any bounty hunters still wanting to collect his shard on the Unseelie side.]

It's nice to meet you.

[...he really should learn to watch his mouth sometimes.] Oh. [He's trying to think if he's met anybody else even relatively close to his age. Lumina's a few years younger. Lemina's a few years older. Eren's probably not that much older than he is. Based on his brief conversations with Ellie and Leo he can guesstimate they're pretty close. The number's...pretty small.] You and me both.

[If he ever finds out when Nico's really from and about the Lotus, he's going to lose his mind.]

I can't promise that, but I think I'll manage just fine.

[He knows better than to approach the monarchs without a good strategy, but sometimes things just happen.

Likewise, he's putting a weird sliver of trust in Nico not to screw this up, too. It's a little odd knowing that they both know exactly where the other stands on either side of the war and yet they both have continued talking. What does that even mean? This is sort of a huge conflict of interest in Hiro's opinion but...as much as he likes his friends on the Unseelie side, he's never really met somebody who gets the things Nico seems to get.

Bummer that he's a Seelie and they'll probably never get to really see each other. It's for that reason that Hiro relaxes slightly. It's just conversation. It'll be fine.]

Nice to meet you, too. ["Formally this time."] Any other words of advice?

[It's definitely weird having a peer who understands all of it...but Nico thinks it's a good weird. Or, at least, he hopes it's good. He has a bad track record for these sorts of things.]

Yeah, don't get caught. Believe me, you never want to be a prisoner of war. Or get used as a demonstration for anti-Court or anti-shardbearer fanatics.

[That...is very much Nico speaking from experience.]

If you do, then you better have a communication device disguised as something they'll let you keep on your person.

I'll put both of those at the top of my "don't" list. [Dry, dry tone. He gets it Nico, that part he didn't need anybody to spell out. Except he probably will later, truth be told. He wants to ask what exactly led him to giving out that specific example, but another time perhaps.]

You don't think a person could hide their locket fast enough?

[There are just some things that bear repeating, Hiro, gosh. Smarty pants.]

No way, especially if that's the first thing they look for. It's not exactly a secret that we carry lockets, and the natives know we're shardbearers on sight. Well, unless you've got a gift or something from the Monarchs that can cloak that.

Wait they can do that? They can hide our shards? [Wow. The more you know.] How do they do it? We have to ask them when they give us presents every month?

I would assume so. I mean, they gave me an amulet that lets me see where the Black Shuck has been a long time ago. He's this world's version of a death god. So, it doesn't seem too far out of their limit.

The Black Shuck. [That's a really weird name for it but sure, okay.] Maybe that's something I'll keep in mind for next time. I'm kinda happy with what they already gave me at least.

Yeah, it's something to think about, really.

I'll think about it.

...thanks, Nico. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.

[He doubts it with how things are going, but you never know. And like that, he cuts the feed.]
