1st Circuit - Text for Both Courts, Video-locked for Unseelie

[There's probably a better way to do this, but at least he can put out feelers and see what he's working with. Since the decimation of Caer Scima Hiro's been a little more than bitter toward the Seelie and while he doesn't want to have anything to do with any of them, he realizes that as a scientist he needs to gather as much information as possible.]

It's been a long month, hasn't it? I'm not used to any of this. Monsters? Destroying people's castles? It's weird. I was getting ready for class one day and the next I came here and then the fighting started. I think I'm going to fall really, really behind in my homework. Makes me wonder…what do you miss most about home? I can't be the only one who really misses advanced tech (computers, video games, even the old stuff like VCRs would be okay at this point.) And I know, I know, the Station exists but it's not the same. So, what about you guys?

[If he can figure out what people value? Maybe they can use that to their advantage, too.]

[Unseelie Locked]

[Now comes the hard part. With that out of the way the video function of the locket clicks on and it's obvious that the locket's hanging from something in front of Hiro. He's in a room at the Station, ever-recognizable blue hoodie hanging loosely on his frame but the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. More importantly than that? He looks a little nervous.]

…hi. My name is Hiro Hamada. I don't know most of you, but I hope you're listening anyway.

[He pauses and looks to the side, evidently looking at someone else who's in the room with him. Deep breath, Hiro.]

It's not a secret that we lost this battle pretty bad. That's a fact, but I think there's something we can do about it to help recover. I know there are other people that don't know how to really fight, or there are people who can only fight with weapons. What if we could do something more than that?

[Give him a second and he's holding up his hand. It looks as though he might completely freeze up but after a short moment a small fireball appears in the palm of his hand. He wants to put it out immediately, but he pauses long enough to at least look at the locket again.]

I couldn't do this when I first got here. [And the fireball vanishes.] Think about how much stronger we'd be as a court if everybody could wield a couple of spells. Even if it's not something you want to use for offense even picking up a few for defense is better than nothing. I know there're a lot of magic users here but…well, Lemina and I have been working on something pretty cool.

[He's going to lean forward and pick up what looks like a piece of paper with a class list and a list of elemental spells written on it to show the camera.]

The Guild's designed to not only teach people how to unlock their own magic ability but hone it and build up to becoming a better magician. We have a few ideas how to use it to help our side of this war. We're going to start classes soon for anybody who's even kinda curious. [A pause.] Look, I didn't even really believe in magic before I got here and knowing the little bit I learned saved me back there. It'd be really cool if you guys considered it and you can always ask Lemina or me if you have questions.

[Actually…he looks off screen toward where Lemina's sitting.] Maybe we should do that now?

[ooc: This is actually going to be open to both Seelie and Unseelie because of the mage university being started by Tzilan just outside of Redgate. Lemina's been putting up flyers around the Station and Hiro just doesn't realize it and has a very strong bias against the Seelie. As an aside, Lemina will also be teaching classes at said-university on her own, but will be keeping the Guild as something separate. edit: also Lemina might pop into some threads as well!]

I'd like to learn. I'm bored. But more importantly...one of those Seelie people made wooden birds that move around. Can you do that? He wouldn't make me one.

[ SHE IS SO SERIOUS. DAVE WOULDN'T MAKE HER A TOY BIRD. Make her a toy bird. ]

[ Apparently she has decided the way to get one is to...bother anyone who says they can do magic until something happens?

[See the sad part is that Hiro's just the right person to fall for that. Short attention span that's easily diverted when it comes to inventing something. Good job, Shijima.]

You don't know how he made them, do you? I mean it'd be great if you somehow even got a picture, and how do you know about these things anyway? [He's already grabbing for a notebook out of his backpack though, along with a pencil.]

I bet I can make something better. Wood won't last that long.

[ At least she agreed to go to a magic lesson with little to no fuss before she distracted him... ]

No, he didn't say. Just that he bought the birds and put a spell on them. They were flying around...it was a locket thing, with a video, but I don't know how to save files on the lockets or if you even could. [ SHRUGS. The lockets are not that high tech. ]

What would last long? Metal?

[He's definitely going to hold her to that, too.]

Okay...do you at least remember his name? Maybe I can look back for the post myself.

I guess normal steel would work...if I could get my hands on carbon fiber those would definitely last, but I don't think even the Station has that. [There's also the armor from Baymax's arm, but...he's a lot more hesitant to give that up.] Some ceramics can be pretty light-weight and last a long time, too. I have a couple of ideas if I can find the right materials.

He didn't say. But he was skinny and had a nasally voice.

[ .............what an amazing description, Shijima. ]

[ She really doesn't...it's sort of sad. ]

[She can probably see him sitting there as he actually scrolls back through the locket--

Give him at least ten more minutes before he calls back.]

Unbelievable. [Whether he means unbelievable that Dave made birds or unbelievable he just went to look for the stupid post, it's hard to say.] I wish there was a way to bookmark other people's posts or something. Anyway I think I have an idea, but I might have to ask for Lemina's help. [There's a pause.]

You'd pay me for it?

I could kill something for you instead, if you prefer that.

[ ????????? DOES HE WANT SOMETHING...OTHER THAN MONEY? ]

And if you want a way to bookmark things, make one. Can't you magic that, too?

[ Shijima very obviously has no idea what the hell magic can do. ]

No. No, no that's okay! [Oh god no let's not kill things Shijima. ~~He already has Jason for that too.~~] Money's fine, I just didn't think about it.

[He rolls his eyes though.] I've already tried customizing the lockets and it's not really working. [You have no idea how many times he's tried to take the tiny set of tools in his backpack and pry the stupid thing open.] Maybe I can use a different spell on them later but I don't know enough magic yet.

[As much as he hates to admit not knowing things...]

I really want a toy bird.

[ Also, she barely touches her money. She can hunt her own food just fine and clothes aren't that hard to acquire. And Shijima barely actually, uh. Wants anything else? So she does odd mercenary jobs and acquires coins she never uses. Until there is a glorified cat toy someone won't give her. ]

Maybe you should start from scratch.

...then I'll make you a toy bird. [Because it sounds like a fun challenge and because money. Why would he say no? (And maybe he's trying to get into Shijima's good graces, so what.)] Give me time and I'll figure something out, probably.

[Huh. That's a thought.] You mean make my own locket. Has anybody else done that before?

All right. If you can't get to me through the lockets, ask around Lumina's farm. Or ask Lumina.

[ She usually has her locket on her, though. She likes to listen to them, they pass the time...and there's a casual, careless shrug. ]

Whoever made these to start with. I don't see why it would be impossible to do.

I'll try to find you without going through Lumina. She's probably going to be really busy with those bird things. [Chocobos.]

But we don't know who made these either. There's some kind of magic that was used that I don't have access to. Maybe I can ask the monarchs or something, I don't know. [He hasn't learned about Rin yet, but maybe someday.] I'm not saying it's impossible but it's not going to be easy if everything stops working outside of the Station.

You could also ask the Blood Flints at Mair. I tell them where I'm at, sometimes.

[ Or she hangs out with them. ]

Maybe. I don't really know who would be good at that sort of thing, but you could always ask around. Let me know if I can help, I suppose. I have nothing better to do.

I don't want to know who or what the Blood Flints are, do I. [Shijima is there something you'd like to share with the class...]

I'll ask around, see what I can find out. And hey, if you find an answer before I do I'll make you something else besides the birds.

Shadier. I think they might be some of the people the merchants need protection from, sometimes. [ A shrug...she clearly doesn't mind. ]

How long would it take to learn a simple spell? A fire one? [ She will CONTACT HIM LATER THEN... ]

Remind me to never, ever run into them. Ever. [That's not even possible so far and he knows it but it should still be said.]

A spell like this? Depends if you already have magic abilities or not. Lemina kinda helped me cheat so I learned a lot faster but I can still tap into my raw magic. [Apparently. He just figured that out earlier today.] If you practice probably not that long? You'd have to ask Lemina about anything stronger than this.

I learned this art easily enough. [ She gestures to her...entire self. Then her eyes. Lets the Tenpenka drop just enough that her eyes shift, more cat-yellow and heavy-lidded than before. It's a bother to change like that, halfway slipping, so she lets it go back after. ] I do not know if that counts as "magic" or not.

[ It probably does. Bullshit ninja magic. ]

I just want to learn to start a fire. [ ......she's offered to kill people so many times maybe she should specify ] For traveling. I'll ask her about it if that's not something you can teach.

[It's clear that he's a little startled by the sudden shift but he doesn't verbally say so. Instead he just watches her shift and makes note to ask her more about it later because Shijima you don't just do stuff like that without warning.] I think it counts more like a superpower but that's sorta like magic. You might have an easier time than some of the others here who're starting from scratch.

[...that's a good thing to specify, yes.] That I can probably teach. You just need to know how to create a flame big enough to light a bunch of sticks on fire, that's not hard.

I have time to learn, anyway.

[ CENTURIES...presumably, unless she ever succeeds in the "getting herself killed" portion of her life goals. Which seems unlikely... ]

I'd like to learn as soon as you can teach me, then. [ It will be Useful and therefore it's worthwhile... ]

Since it doesn't look like we're going anywhere anytime soon? I think you're right.

[Do you see this bright grin? Do you? This is the face of a kid who's very pleased to hear that.] Sweet. You can come to our first meeting whenever that is...ooor I can teach you myself. That's up to you.

[ Well, it seems like a practical skill to learn...!!! Also, she's curious. ]

It'll be faster if you teach me, if you don't know when the first meeting will be. So let's do that. [ Though she will agree to go to the meeting-thing as well, since it seems to be important to him for some reason??? Whatever. ]
