1st Circuit - Text for Both Courts, Video-locked for Unseelie

[There's probably a better way to do this, but at least he can put out feelers and see what he's working with. Since the decimation of Caer Scima Hiro's been a little more than bitter toward the Seelie and while he doesn't want to have anything to do with any of them, he realizes that as a scientist he needs to gather as much information as possible.]

It's been a long month, hasn't it? I'm not used to any of this. Monsters? Destroying people's castles? It's weird. I was getting ready for class one day and the next I came here and then the fighting started. I think I'm going to fall really, really behind in my homework. Makes me wonder…what do you miss most about home? I can't be the only one who really misses advanced tech (computers, video games, even the old stuff like VCRs would be okay at this point.) And I know, I know, the Station exists but it's not the same. So, what about you guys?

[If he can figure out what people value? Maybe they can use that to their advantage, too.]

[Unseelie Locked]

[Now comes the hard part. With that out of the way the video function of the locket clicks on and it's obvious that the locket's hanging from something in front of Hiro. He's in a room at the Station, ever-recognizable blue hoodie hanging loosely on his frame but the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. More importantly than that? He looks a little nervous.]

…hi. My name is Hiro Hamada. I don't know most of you, but I hope you're listening anyway.

[He pauses and looks to the side, evidently looking at someone else who's in the room with him. Deep breath, Hiro.]

It's not a secret that we lost this battle pretty bad. That's a fact, but I think there's something we can do about it to help recover. I know there are other people that don't know how to really fight, or there are people who can only fight with weapons. What if we could do something more than that?

[Give him a second and he's holding up his hand. It looks as though he might completely freeze up but after a short moment a small fireball appears in the palm of his hand. He wants to put it out immediately, but he pauses long enough to at least look at the locket again.]

I couldn't do this when I first got here. [And the fireball vanishes.] Think about how much stronger we'd be as a court if everybody could wield a couple of spells. Even if it's not something you want to use for offense even picking up a few for defense is better than nothing. I know there're a lot of magic users here but…well, Lemina and I have been working on something pretty cool.

[He's going to lean forward and pick up what looks like a piece of paper with a class list and a list of elemental spells written on it to show the camera.]

The Guild's designed to not only teach people how to unlock their own magic ability but hone it and build up to becoming a better magician. We have a few ideas how to use it to help our side of this war. We're going to start classes soon for anybody who's even kinda curious. [A pause.] Look, I didn't even really believe in magic before I got here and knowing the little bit I learned saved me back there. It'd be really cool if you guys considered it and you can always ask Lemina or me if you have questions.

[Actually…he looks off screen toward where Lemina's sitting.] Maybe we should do that now?

[ooc: This is actually going to be open to both Seelie and Unseelie because of the mage university being started by Tzilan just outside of Redgate. Lemina's been putting up flyers around the Station and Hiro just doesn't realize it and has a very strong bias against the Seelie. As an aside, Lemina will also be teaching classes at said-university on her own, but will be keeping the Guild as something separate. edit: also Lemina might pop into some threads as well!]

Sure. I'm going to be in Azure for a couple weeks before I move on. After that, you'll just have to get a hold of me and I'll try to find my way back quickly. Using the locket should be easy enough.

[Until they stopped working. Oops.]

And no. I don't know Thrall. I haven't actually been to Azure yet. I was told about by someone who lives there. But if he shows up again, I'm sure I'll get to meet him.

[There was a pause in the writing. Almost enough time to reply to, but not quite, before it started up again.]

And just so you know, it's easier to learn to control the fire if you have someone to show you how. My offer isn't just to show you how to use it in a fight. It's to show you how to make it an extension of your body. As much a part of you as breathing. I want to help you control it, if I can. When I was granted the power of fire, I had a lot of power but very little real control. I could make it appear and I could toss it around, but that wasn't control. It's okay if you don't want me to help you with that step, but you should have someone do that. It helps.

[The question about the pool of souls went unanswered more from losing it in in his train of thoughts than any desire to hide what it was.]

I'll keep that in mind. I don't know how long it's going to take us to get everything set up here but I'll be around. [For March. And then things goes wrong for him in April and then everything stops in May but oh well, the joys of not knowing what the future holds.]

You can't miss him. He's sort of like eight feet tall and really, really green. He's an orc, but he's pretty cool.

[You know that is 100% okay because Hiro's attention span's already moved on. It's clear he's taking his time to really break down and understand what Wan's saying and it's interesting the way he's offering a sense of control. Control is what he needs. Power is what he wants. It's all very complicated inside the head of a fourteen year old boy that doesn't quite know where he fits in in this world, especially one who's trying to prove he can handle everything and fight on just as much as everybody else.]

No. No, I want to learn how to control it, it's not that. Lemina's teaching me how to create it and control it but anything I can learn to have better control might not be a bad idea. Can it really be that easy? [He's not under any sort of illusion that it's easy to learn, but if it can be that easy to control...]

Once you learn it, it is. It took me less than a year to master the power of fire.

[Of course Wan had a Spirit Dragon teaching him. But it couldn't be that hard to pass those skills on, right? ~~Wan, no, that's not how it works for most people.~~]

[[ooc: if you want hiro to hit wan up for training during the timeskip, we can probably work something out?]]

I don't know if I want to be stuck here for that long, but that doesn't sound like too big of a stretch.

[ooc: I might hit you up on that! Hiro's got a ton on his plate and he's acquiring teachers left and right but it definitely wouldn't hurt, plus further developing their CR.]

You might be stuck here until the war ends and it's been going on for centuries. It's worth working towards an end, but it's going to take time.

[A sad truth, but one that was important to recognize.]

[Because while Hiro had given his, Wan hadn't yet done the same. It would probably be helpful for getting in contact with him.]

Dude! That's not funny! [Wan why would you say that, he has things to be doing!]

Wan. Got it. I'll definitely keep in touch.

[sweet deal <3 Let me see what Hiro's doing first and I might hit that up.]

I didn't say it as a joke. I'm sorry if it read that way.

[Different worlds. Different timeframes. But there's a short break because he's talking to Lemina off-locket before he comes back.]

...weird question, but would you consider teaching other people, too?

Sure.

[If they needed to learn and he could teach them, he didn't have a problem doing so.]

Sweet. Come by our first meeting and we'll see what we can do. If you have time, I mean. I bet you and Lemina could really help a ton of people. ...I'll let you know when that is. We're still trying to figure it out.

[Hiro stop.]

[Wan was confused for a moment before he understood what was being asked of him.]

Oh.

Oh. No. I won't be coming. It's very nice of you to want to help people learn magic, but you plan on using it to help your side of the war and I won't be a part of that. I want to stop the war, not give people the power to make it worse. I'm sorry.

[...wait.]

Hold it, what do you mean OUR side of the war? Isn't it your side too? Stopping the war can be done by stopping the other side.

It's only my side if I choose to take a side. Having a shard that the Unseelie Court claims is theirs does not make the Unseelie Court my side. If I take a side as you have, as the people in this world have for centuries, then the only way of 'stopping the other side' is to wipe them out. How many thousands or millions must suffer and die for that goal to be achieved? How many worlds must be ended? I will not aid such destruction.

I will find a way to stop the war through peace. I know a compromise can be reached and balance can come again to this world.

[And while that's all well and good, there's just one problem he has with that.]

And what about if they decide that the beset way to stop the war is to wipe YOU out? What then? [Just because Wan didn't want to fight didn't mean Hiro wanted to see him get hurt somehow either.]

I'll protect myself. But that doesn't mean I have to choose one court over the other. I've seen this happen before, Hiro. I've seen two sides of a fight so bent on revenge and anger that only one was allowed to survive. I didn't have the knowledge or strength to stop one of my friends from killing another. I have a lot more of both no-

[There was hitch in the writing at the end and it didn't quite finish the sentence before Wan's voice was finally heard. Soft, gentle, but weighted with experience.]

I don't care if stopping this ultimately ends my life, so long as it means there is finally peace when the time comes. I will do everything in my power to see this world brought back into balance.

[...man. There are so many people here that're perfectly fine sacrificing themselves if it means helping somebody else and it's a lot to handle, especially given circumstances at home that still are fresh in his mind. When he speaks, it's clear that he's skeptical of that position and also a little more worried than the writing let on.]

We don't know if it'll mean peace though. That's the problem with wars. I don't know if this is anger or revenge or just because the monarchs are bored and we're just being used, but there are a lot of them who don't know any different than "destroy Unseelie." You think you can stop something like that?

Yes. It know it will take time. I know it may take years. But the only way for someone to know there's another way, is for someone else to show them that possibility. To teach them.

Not trying is the same as giving up, and I will never give up.

[Very wise, Wan. It's enough to shut Hiro up at least and he nods slowly even if he can't see it.]

Just don't be afraid to try different things if you're not going to give up.

[Wan let out a light laugh.]

That's never been a problem for me. But thank you.
