[There's probably a better way to do this, but at least he can put out feelers and see what he's working with. Since the decimation of Caer Scima Hiro's been a little more than bitter toward the Seelie and while he doesn't want to have anything to do with any of them, he realizes that as a scientist he needs to gather as much information as possible.]

It's been a long month, hasn't it? I'm not used to any of this. Monsters? Destroying people's castles? It's weird. I was getting ready for class one day and the next I came here and then the fighting started. I think I'm going to fall really, really behind in my homework. Makes me wonder…what do you miss most about home? I can't be the only one who really misses advanced tech (computers, video games, even the old stuff like VCRs would be okay at this point.) And I know, I know, the Station exists but it's not the same. So, what about you guys?

[If he can figure out what people value? Maybe they can use that to their advantage, too.]

[Unseelie Locked]

[Now comes the hard part. With that out of the way the video function of the locket clicks on and it's obvious that the locket's hanging from something in front of Hiro. He's in a room at the Station, ever-recognizable blue hoodie hanging loosely on his frame but the sleeves pushed up to his elbows. More importantly than that? He looks a little nervous.]

…hi. My name is Hiro Hamada. I don't know most of you, but I hope you're listening anyway.

[He pauses and looks to the side, evidently looking at someone else who's in the room with him. Deep breath, Hiro.]

It's not a secret that we lost this battle pretty bad. That's a fact, but I think there's something we can do about it to help recover. I know there are other people that don't know how to really fight, or there are people who can only fight with weapons. What if we could do something more than that?

[Give him a second and he's holding up his hand. It looks as though he might completely freeze up but after a short moment a small fireball appears in the palm of his hand. He wants to put it out immediately, but he pauses long enough to at least look at the locket again.]

I couldn't do this when I first got here. [And the fireball vanishes.] Think about how much stronger we'd be as a court if everybody could wield a couple of spells. Even if it's not something you want to use for offense even picking up a few for defense is better than nothing. I know there're a lot of magic users here but…well, Lemina and I have been working on something pretty cool.

[He's going to lean forward and pick up what looks like a piece of paper with a class list and a list of elemental spells written on it to show the camera.]

The Guild's designed to not only teach people how to unlock their own magic ability but hone it and build up to becoming a better magician. We have a few ideas how to use it to help our side of this war. We're going to start classes soon for anybody who's even kinda curious. [A pause.] Look, I didn't even really believe in magic before I got here and knowing the little bit I learned saved me back there. It'd be really cool if you guys considered it and you can always ask Lemina or me if you have questions.

[Actually…he looks off screen toward where Lemina's sitting.] Maybe we should do that now?

[ooc: This is actually going to be open to both Seelie and Unseelie because of the mage university being started by Tzilan just outside of Redgate. Lemina's been putting up flyers around the Station and Hiro just doesn't realize it and has a very strong bias against the Seelie. That sounds pretty serious. Any idea how fast it went?

Absolutely. Unless you WANT to be carrying around like 20,000 records any time you want to hear one particular song. Every time I asked her the only answer I got was "not fast enough." But it was pretty crazy, almost lethal speeds. I've never been on her bike but I've been in a car she was driving. GoGo doesn't really believe in normal traffic rules.

Seems like people need to take music wherever they go these days. But it's a nice thing.

I have a friend like that too. I wonder how well she's getting used to fairy rings and horses.

I think it's more like people just like being reminded they CAN. I have music on my phone that I listen to sometimes when I'm working on stuff but I don't use it that much. It's probably driving her crazy if she's anything like my friend. What about you though? Lack of speed bothering you at all? [Because it's driving him crazy. Fairy rings are all well and good but he's still adamantly refusing horses.]

I definitely don't like not being able to get to people faster when they're in trouble. Other than that, I guess I don't mind a little slowing down.

[Huh. Give him a second to mull over that.]

Used to being a hero, rushing in to save the day?

I don't know about that. I just like helping out when I can.

How about this: is there anything that you like better about here so far?

[Well that seems to be the running pattern for Seelies doesn't it.]

I think I'm still deciding? I haven't been here that long and I kinda like not being thrown right into big battles. But I guess it's kinda cool learning about everybody's worlds and seeing what things are different. Magic. Monsters. Stuff like that doesn't exist where I'm from so it's sort of like walking through a giant video game but I can't hack it and get infinite lives. I don't know if anybody back home would believe me if I told them about this place though. Maybe I'm just more surprised how few people live in a normal kind of world. [Or his idea of normal, anyway.]

It takes some getting used to. I wouldn't say that there's magic and monsters where I came from. But there was technology that looked a lot like it sometimes, and aliens who looked a lot like monsters when they were tearing up the city.

Here, magic is more like...magic. People can do some pretty helpful stuff with it.

What kind of tech? The stuff we make back home is pretty advanced but I don't know if I could call it magic. And we definitely don't have aliens so...aliens? Like from space. What did they want? I stand corrected. It's more like I got dropped into a giant storybook. So magic here can basically do anything?

I know a guy who has a suit - like a suit of armor. But he can fly in it, and it shoots rockets. As for the aliens, they wanted New York. They were an army sent to help take control of the world.

Yeah, it reminds me a lot of those old fairy tales too. I've see magic do everything from conjuring elements up, making force fields, summoning dragons. You name it.

Oh I've built one of those. [Okay no. Maybe he should clarify.] I mean I've made a suit of armor for somebody else so they can fly. He can shoot rockets sorta, too. And I made another suit so I could catch a lift whenever I wanted. I've kinda made a few suits actually... What's so great about New York that aliens wanted the whole city? Wouldn't it have made sense to attack DC if they wanted to start in on world domination? Sounds like I've got a lot to catch up on here then. It almost sounds impossible but you've seen all of this happen here? It just makes it weirder that they limit some things but not magic.

Sounds like you and he would have a lot to talk about. Are you a billionaire philanthropist too?

I think they wanted to hit us where we lived. Make a show out of it. And yeah, I've seen it all happen here. Think you'll be okay?

Not quite. I turned down the money. [Which...in retrospect was probably stupid now.]

And what makes you guys so special that a bunch of aliens showed up and wanted to make a spectacle out of you? Yeah. I'll be fine.

Why'd you turn it down? And I don't know, I'm just a kid from Brooklyn myself.

[Steve, please.]

But I sort of have some ideas.

If you ever feel like maybe you're not fine, my name's Steve.

I wanted to develop the tech further. [That's about as vague as he can put it, anyway.] Seems like a lot of work just for "a kid from Brooklyn." Think it's the same reason that you ended up here? [There has to be a pattern, Seelie or not.]

Steve. Okay. I'll remember that. I'm Hiro, if that makes a difference.

It might have something to do with why I was recruited.

Hiro. I'll remember that too. What were you hoping to do with the tech once you got it where you wanted it?

Might. I don't know. Everything? The microbots were supposed to make everything easier. When I created them they were supposed to be used to do anything you could think of. Literally. The neurotransmitter controlled what the microbots did so whatever you wanted them to do, they'd do it. Construction, transportation, anything like that. I'm from a city, too, so we need stuff like that. They're gone though so I guess when I get home I'm going to start thinking of a new project to work on.
