Oh my god! Okay, okay. So maybe this place isn't so bad. I got magic. That's apparently my gifty boon thing for getting my ass handed to me by the invading hoard.

[He pauses, blinking and grinning down at the locket.]

I'm actually living a video game now. I feel like I just leveled up. Now all I need's a familiar. But look. Look!

[He waves around a staff, then points the locket at the books that had arrived with the staff, symbols emblazoned on them and looking exactly like what they were; spell books.]

Dude, I'm a freaking magician. Wizard? Sorcerer? I don't really know yet, but I can do stuff. See?

[He'd already poured through part of a book and had memorized one incantation. He repeated it, the tip of his staff glowing before the comforter on his bed caught fire.]

Oh... uh, no. No, shit. No, wait I didn't, hey! Hey! Stop. Finito! FLAME OFF! FLAME! OFF!

[He drops the locket and the staff and goes to pull the comforter off to toss in the fireplace. Have fun watching that debacle.]

[Ooooh, look, Isaac. Watch the pretty bubbles. Stiles was a little distracted by them himself, popping at one with a grin.]

I know, right? There's like, books of this stuff here. And potions. There's a potions book. I wonder if I can make love potions...

[isaac may have been distracted enough to ignore what stiles started to stay, but by the end of it, alarm has washed over his features. he is Not Okay with that idea.]

Do not make a love potion. [and, as if to try and ease stiles off of the idea:] They always end up bad, anyway.

In the movies, sure, but if there's actual magic love potions in these books, that has be mean they work, right?

Not artificially, no.

[he's really not buying your logic, stiles.]

Why? Do you want someone to love you artificially? Because, by all means, go for it, if you do.

Who says it'll be artificial?

Besides, not all of us are blessed with good looks and enhanced reflexes.

Anything that's made from a potion is artificial. It's just a drug that lasts a really, really long time.

[he shrugs, looking away for a moment. wherever stiles is going with this, isaac isn't too sure he wants to be involved.]

I don't know, man. I wouldn't. You're just asking for something bad to happen.

[He rolled his eyes and gave the teenager a look.]

Wow. And here's clear evidence that you don't know me at all. Like, at all.

[Not that Stiles was that surprised. Isaac had tolerated him at best. No reason the other boy should actually bother to get to know him.]

[and he looks right back at him pointedly,]

You're weird and kind of stupid sometimes, but you're smart. That's all I need to know, don't you think?

No. I'd hope you'd realize that I shouldn't need to be the son of the sheriff to not be okay with basically handing out magic roofies to people.

[he cracks a smile,]

You sounded pretty excited about it.

Well, yeah, in theory they're great. And wouldn't be bad to use as a prank at a low dosage or something. Like, making Peter fall in love with a troll or something, sure. That would be hilarious. But I wouldn't ever give it to a girl and then expect--
