[ Katsa can be heard before she's seen, her locket instead in the face of a fully-grown direwolf that's shoving his nose in front of it in her hands. She pushes him out of the way, backs up so that she can be seen in scale with the direwolf: her blue and green eyes are overbright, red-rimmed as though she's been crying, but her voice when she speaks is loud and demanding. ]

What potions or tonics would turn dark hair blue?

I've seen enough bloody Tyroshi with blue hair and green beards. It ain't so nice looking as you might think. [He recalls old Greenbeard in particular, though there were plenty of Tyroshi that would oft sail into King's Landing and inevitably come calling on Master Mott's shop.]

[survivra]

Am I supposed to know who those are? [ she wrinkles her nose. ] May be they're just not so nice looking already.

[bullhorned]

They're foreigners from across the Narrow Sea. There ain't nothing wrong with them but their hair and strange accents. [So he considered that to settle the matter.]

[survivra]

It's always people across the sea. [ is that a sigh or a laugh? it's tending more toward a laugh. ] I wonder if it's something in the air. Though there's little wrong with their choice of colors if they're going to have so ridiculous a custom.

[bullhorned]

Aye, well, you're foreign as well. Why not color your own hair? Pink might do you well.

[Only, he rather likes her hair as it is.]

[survivra]

Pink? Do people even make dyes of the sort? [ she lets herself smile ] A darker color would suit me better. My hair is growing too long again anyway, if I decide to cut it off.


[ she's in such an impulsive mood she'd probably do it ]

Cut it? Why? It looks decent enough already. Why would you cut it?

[He'd known Arya with short hair, to be true. But he'd also decided Arya looked good with longer hair. He thought it would be a shame if Katsa was to do the same.]

[survivra]

I don't care much how it looks. It's maddening when it's long. It's always tangling and getting in the way and feels heavy on my neck, and the combing to get out all the knots is a nuisance.

[bullhorned]

Can't you... put it in a braid of some sort? Tie it back?

[He's never had to deal with long hair, though his often can get to shoulder length before he takes a knife to it. Even so, he feels like he has to dissuade her from this course before she ends up with less hair than he does.]

[survivra]

That's what I do when it's long, but if that's what I'm always doing as it is, don't you think it's just easier to cut it all off? Then I don't have to worry about what it's doing at all. Isn't that why men keep theirs cropped shorter?

[bullhorned]

No, that's not it. Men do it because they look like bloody fools with long hair. But there's still some what wear it long all the same.

[Or so he understands in his own version of the world.]

[survivra]

I didn't realize you were so concerned about your vanity.

[bullhorned]

I ain't. Else I'd have cut my own hair by now. [His was not quite so long as hers was, but it had started to become unruly enough that it threatened to get in his eyes.

[survivra]

I wish that were so easy, or I'd have done it myself, too. If it bothers you, you can pretend I'm a boy until it grows back, or I'll be sure to watch my disposition and send whoever cut it to make sure you've the same chance to cut yours.

[ she has a weird sense of humor ]

[bullhorned]

You'll need yourself a boy's name and some way to piss standing up.

[Still, he thought it wouldn't work so well for Katsa as it had for Arya. Katsa was more... womanly.]

[survivra]

[ she could get away with being a feminine boy. at night, with her hood up. ]

The first is easy enough. Call me what you will. The second... I'd just avoid doing in view of others and work out the rest of the details later.

[bullhorned]

Aye, that would work, should you be surrounded by idiots.

[survivra]

[ Katsa snorts a laugh, then covers her mouth to try to hold further laughter in. ]

There are those enough in number. I'll keep your advice in mind should I attempt it in the future. Besides, if it's you I'm just trying to fool for my hair, wouldn't you have to be the idiot?

[bullhorned]

I'd have to be, aye. Pity I ain't, eh?

[He would not call himself clever! But he was no fool at least. He was too cynical for that.]

[survivra]

[ no more audible laughter, but there's no hiding her smile, and she doesn't bother to try. ]

Aye. [ a strange sound on her noble-bred tongue. ] Yes, pity. In any case, we'll just have to see what comes of whose hair, and one of us will have to settle for being dissatisfied.

[bullhorned]

I'm supposing that will end up being me. Do as you like, then. If you fancy it, I could take a blade to your hair and make it bald all over.

[This is him conceding defeat, even if he's not like to actually make good on the offer. He wouldn't know what to do with her hair if he was expected to start touching it.]

[survivra]

Good. The less hair, the better.

[ Now she's saying it mostly because she knows his opinions—she doesn't really plan to go bald, though it would certainly make things easier.

Katsa's smile fades a bit, and she sighs, though not out of a loss of good humor. ]

I should take care of some things that have been left to me. When will I see you next?

[bullhorned]

Gods know. It ain't easy meeting when we're like to encounter folk who want to kill one or both of us. But... soon, I think.
