[ The locket opens on just Hermione's face; behind her there is nothing but a blank wall, at least until she turns. Then there's a small bookshelf, a series of vials and a cauldron before she sits down and refocuses the camera on her and nothing else. It takes her a moment to speak but she does - after taking a long, deep breath. ]

For anyone that doesn't know me, my name is Hermione Granger. We're about to enter a war and I don't think it's right that any of us enter entirely unprepared - there's only so much we can do, but I intend to do whatever I can to make sure that everyone is ready and as capable as they can be.

[ Another deep breath and she turns, so that both her cauldrons are in sight. ]

I've been brewing potions for the last few days, as much as I can and as quickly as I can. I have things for cuts, scrapes, wounds, for loss of blood and for burns, anti-paralysis... I think you get the idea. I've got a lot of stock and I'm ready to give it to anyone who thinks they might need it before they go and fight. If you need it after then you know my name and how to contact me, right?

[ She looks troubled, still; war isn't something she is entirely comfortable with, even now, even with how familiar she is with it. ]

Just let me know if you want or need something and I can pop over and deliver it. And if you have, um, friends that might need it but can't read this? Let me know. I'm an equal opportunist potioneer, I promise. Thank you for your time.

[ And, added a little later, if the change in the shadows of the room are any indication -- ]

You don't have to pay me for them, but if you can find ingredients or donate something that would be nice. Just so I can keep this going.

It should help, though. The only difference in this case is really applying that knowledge. I could be getting ahead of myself though, since I'm not sure what was covered in your studies, but I'm sure you'd be very capable of managing just fine. As for the research, I thought as much. I was hoping to speak with you.

As soon as I get around to it I'll see what I can do and what I might find more difficult and maybe I could ask for a bit of help?

[ She does brighten, though. ]

[She's not being polite or paying lip service, either. Flora is tired, but the prospect of helping someone with gardening is always exciting and makes her happy. This can't come soon enough, but they all have work to do in the meantime.

I wanted to pick your brain on ideas on how we could better defend Caer Glaem. Enchantments, charms, whatever it takes.

[ Hermione perks up, nodding her head. ]

I can do some protective spells, but I'm not sure how strong they'll be with just me. Last time we had to defend something as large as Caer Glaem it took a handful of my Professors - some of the strongest witches and wizards I know.

...You didn't end up having to defend your school too, did you?

[Flora's just going to hazard a guess. The year just wasn't complete without there being at least a little property damage done to the school, it seemed. Redfountain less so, but she's starting to wonder if there's a commonality here.]

We could combine powers, but--[but she would rather converge them, and that probably isn't going to be an option for a long while, if at all.] but well, I suppose I'd rather use something that isn't really available at the moment so I probably shouldn't think of it.

We did. It was where the last real battle of the Second War happened, actually.

[ Hogwarts had been witness to a great number of many things but the Battle of Hogwarts is something that no one will forget for a long time. The last time she was home it was being repaired and she was hoping to go back for her last year soon... She wonders if that's changed. ]

I'm really not sure how it would work without wands. [ She hums. ] I wonder if I can use my shard to make it stronger...

I am sorry. This seems to be a bit of a theme with magical schools to one degree or another. [Flora's voice grows solemn. A war too, at that, and she was fighting another.]

I don't use wands, so I'm not certain if this will be an issue, but maybe that's it--our shards. I'm not sure if our own magic will be compatible or not, we might have to layer it if possible, if we can't combine strength, perhaps our shards can bridge the gaps, somehow.

It's alright. We survived and we won, isn't that all we could ask for?

[ She tries to smile before she shakes her head, breathing out. The issue now is focusing on protecting the castle and the people inside of it. ]

There must be something we can do. Our magic might not work in the same way but it's still magic. It should cooperate somehow.

[Flora breathes a tiny sigh of relief and smiles.] Yes, yes it is. I'm really glad it worked out that way.

[She nods, agreeing.] Here's hoping. But what sort of protections did you have in mind, curiously?

[ She sits up a little straighter, all business now. ]

There are a set of protection spells that work together to defend a large area. Protego Maxima, a shield charm, Repello Incimicum, a protective barrier and Fianto Duri, which helps solidify the barriers.

[Flora listens carefully, her curiosity piqued.]

Are they constantly active or do they stay dormant until triggered? If the latter, how are they?

Once they're cast they're active and they last until something powerful enough breaks them. That's why it's important for there to be as much power behind them as possible - the stronger the casting the stronger the barriers themselves.

[Flora nods easily. It makes sense.] Sounds like it ought to be a tremendous group effort, then. If I'm honest, though, I've never met a shield that wasn't breached or broken eventually. They're a little like rules, sometimes. [And she can't help smiling, a little.] I'm wondering if we couldn't modify that a little...like pool power into some sort of storage medium too, something that could generate another set of shields and barriers if the first ever go down.

Exactly like rules. No matter how big they are they always get broken down somehow. It's just a matter of time.

[ She hesitates. She wants to stay out of the war, particularly, but... ]

I'll do some reading in the library, I think. There must be something I can do.

[ Maybe, if she uses her shard, she can amplify her magic somehow. ]

Is something the matter? [She notices the hesitation and is concerned.]

Oh, no, really. There's nothing wrong. I'm just wondering if there was some way of using my shard to make sure the barrier held at Caer Glaem while I did the same at Nimh Gleanne.

[ Not that she's spreading herself thin or anything. ]

...That sounds like it might be taxing. Please try not to push yourself too hard.

[#HYPOCRISY BUT W/E.]

The charms you mentioned, I take it they have to be cast with all the wanted power once? It's not something that can be added to once done?

I won't. I promise.

[ That depends on what you consider taxing, however. ]

I think it's something that can be strengthened later, as long as it holds. It's just making sure it holds that's important.

That's good to hear. I'm not sure how much magic I'll have for the next little while, since I have so much to do, but I think those charms would be a good idea to try and do sometime soon if you have time.

[She ponders for a moment.]

...they would probably hold best if they were ground with blood, somehow.

I'm going to do some reading and see what I can dig up. If there's some kind of native spell or native rune we could use that would be incredibly helpful.

[ Hermione hums before she pauses. ]

... Blood?

Yeah. It's not exactly my favourite, but blood is one of the strongest media for magic in the drabwurld.

[And bone, and flesh, but she's not thinking they need either of those. Not to mention she'd rather not.]

I've done one spell with blood magic and that's more than enough for me right now.

[ Especially since that exploded in her face. ]
