I -- [ hmm. sansa presses her lips together and wonders (briefly) whether it is a foolish request in the face of war. and yet she pursues it for an honourable cause. she wishes to gather certain tales for certain purposes. ] I want to hear stories. Stories of grand adventures undertaken by brave Seelie heroes. I cannot be the only one who's struck by such curiousity. Please -- share what you've learned.

[ and for every legend well-told and well-lauded she will make a point to include it within a very...pointed celebration in treun. perhaps encouraging even the shardless to think upon the bright bold tales of the seelie court will further endear that court to their hearts. it's a little like letting the right song be played at the right moment, falling upon the right ears. she wants to inspire treun -- or else certain parts of it -- to think more kindly on caer glaem. and she needs fellow shardbearers to help her. ] Tell me of the Seelie court's fabled champions and its well-mourned martyrs. What have you heard recounted by the hearth-side? Whispered on the road? Stories even the natives have told for centuries, mayhaps.

( BOTH COURTS )

[ some hours later in the day an 'accidental' feed broadcasts. it consists of the locket falling open and catching sight of a pile of books. sounds of rustling. a cleared throat. and at long last a mild: ] Seven have mercy. What a troublesome thing you are and how -- [ sansa addresses the locket she had flipped open on purpose, pretending to be clumsy. this is a quiet way in which to invite conversation with those she might not otherwise feel brave enough to seek out -- unseelie friends, soon separated from her by a roiling oncoming war. ] -- How stupid of me.

[ a novice ruse! however, she has such an earnest and gentle face it might just be worth believing by most, if not by all. ]

-- Decent.

[ and suddenly sansa is laughing, though the joke isn't quite apparent. it's not a word she's personally fond of -- decent -- but she knows a young man who over-uses it to mean anything from passable to delightful. it seems to possess the same slangish power as words like cool and neat. ]

[ Kelsi laughs, too, though a little lighter and for a different reason. She has no idea what's going on in Sansa's mind, of course, but laughter is contagious. ]

Decent. Yeah, decent works, but it kind of sounds like you're not excited for it. Get excited!

Lovely, then. [ her smile is thin-lipped. bare. ] Amazing. Wondrous.

[ Kelsi's grinning. ] The words are right, but c'mon! Think about what makes you really excited, like--ummm--like watching a sports tournament, or something! And then say it. [ She's not smiling enough. Kelsi's going to get her to smile if it's the last thing on earth. ]

Like--oh my gosh, that's so cool!

-- A tourney?

[ she sounds more like she's guessing than claiming. tourneys were once a grand distraction, but she couldn't quite drum up the same old excitement for them now. ]

Yeah! One side against the other, everyone gathers around to watch. It was huge in East High--I mean, there are professional ones, too, but since we were only teenagers we had our own for our school. I mean--uh. Court.

East High. [ she repeats; commits to memory. ] This is your kingdom?

Yeah! Or, was. My friend and I left for a bigger one to study. [ She's praying she got this analogy correct. ] Where is yours? I mean--your old one.

Westeros. [ she finds being vague about these things is better with people who are still strangers to her lands. but she does add a gentle: ] My family holds the North. Held.

Held the North.

[ sigh. ]

When Ryan and I moved, it was to the North, too. I'm not looking forward to winter. [ It's a light-hearted joke, at least in her mind. ]

Westeros, though--oh! You know Renly, then, right?

Lord Renly and I are acquainted. Yes.

[ a soft and lilting curiousity touches her voice. ]

Oh, cool! [ There's that word again. ] He told me all about his place in the Stormlands, and his wife and her brother. Did you know each other, before all of this?

Yes. [ it pains her (at times) to speak of this younger girl. the one she used to be: ] I can remember so perfectly the day I first met Lord Renly.

What was it like? I guess he's handsome, isn't he? [ Not that Kelsi would know. ] I bet he had, like, a parade of 20 milk white horses or something silly, he seems super dramatic when making an entrance.

The most handsome man I've ever known. [ she so very nearly sighed. ] I met him first when he was all a-glow in lovely green armour. And his laugh carried ease and happiness with it. He challenged me to name him -- and I think I knew at once who he must have been.

[ This? This is normal for Kelsi. This is Kelsi gossiping with the girls, talking about this-and-that at lunch. It feels good. ] Sounds like you had a crush.

N-no. I certainly never d--

[ wait. what's a crush. sansa frowns. it sounds like something she ought to deny, but: ] I'm sorry. I don't understand.

Oooooh.

[ Time to talk about Kelsi's favourite subject. ]

You know how sometimes, just seeing a person is enough? Your heart goes pitter-patter and you feel like there are butterflies in your stomach--sometimes you even forget to breathe because how could anyone be so perfect without even saying anything?

That's a crush. Except you don't know if you're in love yet, or if it's just a Thing, you know? Like, even if your knees go week whenever you see them... Maybe it's just a phase. It'll go away in a few weeks or years or whatever. It's not love, but... It's definitely infatuation. This one person I know, he was really, really into this basketball player named Chad, but insisted it was just a crush. I'm not sure he's right, though.

[ ah. then perhaps it is an undeniable truth that she does indeed harbour a 'crush' or two. all for men locked safely away behind reasons why she could never have them and they could never have her; it's easier, this way. she can fawn in peace (if not prosperity) and need never fear the repercussions of their marriage pacts or flirtatious lies.

to this end (and despite the public nature of this conversation) sansa quite brazenly owns her feelings: ] Yes, then. I suppose I rather care for Lord Renly. His looks are -- captivating. Distinguished.

[ it's easier to praise this baratheon aloud. better for all involved if they believe her besotted with him. ]

Hot people are really unfair. [ It's the most blunt Kelsi's been, too, but she's grinning, thinking of a few of her own.

Distantly, she wonders about Chad and Ryan and if it's a case like that, with Sansa. ]

There's a term in my world? Really attractive people you get crushes on easily? They're called life ruiners.

[ the humour of the turn flies well above her head -- and in a fit of honesty, she exclaims: ] Lord Renly isn't a life ruiner! Not at all. That sin is someone else's.

[ another crush: more ill-advised than any other. the hinging downfall of a family. ]

Um.

[ Kelsi's voice quiets, and she tries to figure out where she could have struck a nerve or done anything to get that reaction. ] I--uh, it's an expression, I didn't really think he'd actually ruin a life, are you--I mean, who's the literal life ruiner? [ 'Who made you so defensive?' ]

[ she requests that the locket make their conversation private.

and she breathes deep before speaking: ] His name was Joffrey.

Jeffrey. [ That's what she thinks Sansa said, anyway, and Kelsi's gaze lowers as she thinks. Maybe she's reading too much into it--maybe she's just used to observing the Wildcats, and this girl was completely different--but the way she takes that huge breath..

This certainly took a turn. ]

What did he do?

Joffrey. [ her correction is gentle, although her treatment of the name is anything but. ] And he was my king. [ an awkward dash of silence. this, at least, is no secret: ] My betrothed.
