{It's easier to dress like a Ranger in the midst of battle. Aragorn is unharmed - even some Elves cannot match his skill with a sword - but he looks tired. For the time being he is camping under a rocky outcropping, his sword across his lap as he cleans it of filth.}

Our time runs short. Will we let this world separate us and bend us to its will or will we look beyond our differences and stand together?

I have spoken of such a possibility before and my hope has not dwindled. Animosity will not serve us - nor will contempt.

{He breathes out and returns his sword to its sheathe.}

I ask for compassion and if you wonder how it will serve you, you need only imagine a future where you need not look over your shoulder warily as you travel this land.

{His words are strong and he is fighting to remain undaunted, but he can see a rift growing. The monarchy have chosen the members of their courts well - those with turbulent pasts - and he knows there will always be a strong reaction when it comes to ideas of compassion and peace.}

I am weary of heart and body. I say I have not lost hope - {But...} There are many questions I cannot answer. How can I reassure everyone that we have the strength to defend ourselves against the Fae?

I want to believe we do; I want to see peace come to both courts...

I did not know him, for I was but a babe when he died, but I would be glad to know what tales you have of him.

He knew me as Thorongil and I was one of his retainers. We forged a strong friendship and he took my advice more oft than not. {Now he looks sad, tired.} I fear I was part of the reason your father grew so bitter. Because of the rewards bestowed on me by Ecthelion, he must have felt slighted. Left out, perhaps.

Perhaps that was part of it, but also, I think, father knew who you were as well, and resented you for your claim to the throne.

Later, perhaps, but not then. {He wishes he could be as sure.} I was merely a Ranger from the North in those days. I was not prepared for the throne - nor was I worthy of it.

Perhaps, that was true then - I did not know you and cannot say, after all, but there is none other than you that I would accept on the White Throne.

I am honored to have your loyalty. I could not ask for more from you except your guidance in dark times, which I pray are behind us.

I give it where it is well deserved. I cannot say that I will be able to guide you in anything, but what aid you require of me is yours. I too, hope for that. Gondor has known enough of war, let her know peace!

You followed a path similar to my own, did you not? A Ranger and then a Steward. You have been a soldier, a brother and a son. Do not think you could not guide me.
