[Richard Castle is coming to you live from the Seelie armory where he's been assisting in the process of organizing the weapons, shields and armor for the forthcoming battle. Since he honestly doesn't plan on riding out to fight with people he doesn't want to kill in a battle he doesn't want to participate in, he figures this is a way to still be helpful without actually risking life and limb. Castle, of course, has a different definition of "helpful" than most people do. In fact, the first thing one notices on the locket screen is Castle wearing an armored helmet. He lifts the face shield and smiles at his audience.]

Hey. So, I just wanted to draw your attention to the armory. If you haven't visited here lately, they have the latest medieval technology for all your fighting needs, including armor hand-shined by yours truly.

[He turns the locket around in order to show a panoramic view of rows of shiny breastplates and helmets, all stacked neatly and awaiting wearers, then turns the view back on himself.]

So come check it out. I might even fit you myself, if you're that lucky.

[With that, Castle flips down the front of his helmet and flashes a thumbs up to the locket. Then, as an afterthought, he quickly raises the hatch again.]

Oh, while I'm thinking about it... I've heard that it's possible to use guns here. If you have any knowledge about how to acquire one, even if it's, shall we say, an older model, I'd be very interested to hear what you know.

My apologies sir, but none of those are familiar to me. I suspect they may not exist, in my world.

Richard Castle of.. New York City. Pleased to meet you.

What I'm referring to is similar to a bow though it uses gunpowder and an explosion to push a piece of metal through a tube at high speed.

I see! I had heard that Saruman used a black powder to create a hole in the walls of Helm's Deep, perhaps this was the gunpowder of which you speak? It certainly sounds a formidable weapon. Was this something you were trained in its use?

['Master Castle'. People here are awesome.]

It's... possible? I've never heard of those things, but it sounds like something similar was used. What I'm talking about shoots projectiles though.

I've had some training with it. It's mostly practice, really.

That certainly sounds like it would make a formidable weapon! I fear the closest thing I can think of would be a crossbow, and those are relatively new a device. Have you such a weapon here?

I haven't been able to find a gun yet, though I've heard that it's possible to have one. I might be interested in a crossbow though... might be the closest thing I can get.

You said you're from a place called Gondor, yeah? I'm sure it doesn't come as a shock to you that I've never heard of it.

[Just as Faramir has probably never heard of New York City.]

I confess I am not very familiar with their use, although I have certainly see their like - I prefer a good hunting bow, in honesty!

[ He grins a little ] Before coming here I would have looked askance at you when you said that, for who does not know Gondor, and who has not heard the name of Minas Tirith, the White City, great and fair and mighty? But aye, I can believe it - your world sounds far different to mine. What is your New York City like?

Huge. It's one of the biggest cities in the world. But it's amazing. So many... people and places to go and things to do. I've lived there more whole life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Except here, since I don't have much choice about it now.

So is Minas Tirith, in mine. [ Faramir nods, interestedly ] Or it was, I suppose is more accurate! It sounds as if it is a wonderful place to live! I wish I could have known it - but I fear you will have to endure my incessant questions instead!

Not at all, so long as you don't mind me asking some questions too.

[Castle likes this guy. He seems incredibly nice and like he's actually interested in what Castle is talking about.]

Is the place where you come from... similar to here or very different?

Fair is fair! [ Faramir grins back ]

An exchange of information then? Hm, I suppose... in some ways it is very similar. The castle, the weapons, the ... atmosphere, I suppose? But we never had... magic such as this, for certain, and our wars were not ones such as these, although I suppose some of the Eldar might have a different view, as old as they are.

What of your own New York?

Basically nothing like this. This place is similar to how my world was about 800 years ago. Have you been to The Station at all? That's a pretty accurate representation of where I come from, at least technology-wise.

I have not no, although I have heard plenty of tales. Perhaps I should do so. 800 years in your past? I suppose that makes you someone from my future, perhaps! It must be difficult for you then, I imagine, suddenly finding yourself in a place so different, although I must compliment you then, on doing well for yourself!

It's.. different. The hardest thing is transportation, honestly. We have much more efficient and faster ways to get around where I come from.

[Other than that, he finds this place pretty cool, sans the war. At least he has the option to hit The Station if he's feeling homesick.]

Truly? I grant that one used to more rapid means of travel would find a slower pace frustrating, but I did not know there were any means swifter than a quick horse, before coming here. What sort of transportation did you mean?

Something called an automobile.. Basically what it boils down to is if you can burn things like coal or oil, you can create energy that will power machines - and they're much faster than a horse. The first was the steam engine which ran on steam created from boiling water, but coal and oil are faster and more efficient.

[Bless Castle, he's not a scientist, but he thinks that maybe made sense.]

Ah! That is an interesting thought - like a kettle then, only on a much larger scale? I should ask the Dwarves if they had anything of the like, for it sounds like something they might have known. Or at the least, that they would be interested in trying!

Yes, just like that. Are the Dwarves the innovators of your world?

Yes, and no - the Eldar, too, create, the Noldor especially, but you might say their innovations tended to follow different routes. The gemsmiths of the Noldor created gems that burnt with a light that never failed, and their craftsmen sought ever to elevate form into function. The Dwarves are more practical, I supppose you could say - the Eldar look up, the Dwarves, down, and Men, they say, look ever ahead instead.
