[ The feed comes into focus on the background, before it's picked up by the user of the locket. A stern woman -- not one seen in a long time appears in the foreground. She nods, brushes a strand of hair from her face. ]

Greetings. I can't say that the timing of my arrival here has been... kind. But seeing as I have been here for a few weeks and it looks that I will not be going anywhere again -- I have no wish to sit idly. I was a leader before, Captain of the Guard of the city I served in. Even if I am not so by name here, for this effort I thought I had best help as I can.

[ Even if she does not entirely agree with the idea of the war -- and getting involved. ]

My name is Aveline Hendyr, and I was here before. Much has seemed to have changed in the time that I was away, however.

Another thing. I offered to teach any interested parties residing in the Seelie castle defense before, to train with a sword -- or to anyone who is already knowledgeable and wishes to have someone to practice with -- that offer still stands as well, now.

[ With another nod, she switches the feed off. ]

Time seems almost to move too swiftly in these lands, for all the talk of our extended lives under its skies. [ soft. thoughtful. nervous. ] I am sorry you returned to so much change, Captain.

[ how strange to use the title for a woman! but she is happier with a title to give in the first place; other hangups must be mastered later. ]

I wonder if anyone has been here long enough to verify that indeed our lives are extended. [ She looks at the girl before her - a bit young to be a part of a war, perhaps. ]

Thank you. Listen to me complaining about this when I was only present for such a short time, before. My real frustrations lie in trading one great predicament for another.

Just Aveline will be fine, if you like. I hold no title here in these lands of yet.

[ It's a difficult transition, to once again be but a soldier, but it's about what she does. Not the title. ]

Which would you prefer?

[ captain or aveline? the legitimacy of either makes no difference; she merely wants to ingratiate herself. ]

Guard Captain is my rank. That doesn't change, even if my location does, or it's not of here. But... I won't fault anyone for not using it.

And so I trust you will not fault anyone for using it, either. Guard Captain.

No. I will not mind. [ She smiles, even if it feels cold knowing she has no idea what will come next - if Kirkwall will still be standing when she returns. Her men, women and friends - where will they be? Alive, still? She fears for them.

Her captaincy will not matter, then. ]

And what is it that I should call you, Miss?

Sansa. Of House Stark. Lady Keeper of the Cothromach. [ what a mouthful! but she offers an olive branch: ] Lady Sansa will suffice.

[ it's humiliating to have to say so -- but she's long learned not everyone understands the ease of titles as she does. although the guard captain likely will, she doesn't want to risk it. ]

Very well, Lady Sansa, of the Cothromach. An honor.

[ she's used to nobles, to addressing with their proper titles (even if there were times were it was frustrating to do so - the De Launcets and their many complaints... Orleasians.

All of that aside, the girl reminds her of Bethany, in a way. Sensible, and about as soft spoken as the younger of the Hawke siblings. Well. Unless she needed to be otherwise. ]

Do you remain still at Caer Glaem, Guard Captain?

Indeed I do. I have no immediate plans for travel anytime soon, but that can change.

[ She'd left for the Station when Hawke had been here. She'd go again, if one of her friends showed. ]

The fairy rings make it such a simple endeavour. And yet I find myself with little time enough to leave the Cothromach unless it is in service of that same city.

[Oh surprise!! Jon looks perhaps overly pleased to see her. Every man that leaves and then returns gives him a small bit of hope that his own father will do the same, someday. She cannot have gone too long before he did, so perhaps he will not be so long in coming back now either.]

Captain Aveline. [He is nowhere near so hesitant as his sister, instead he nods politely in greeting to the familiar face.] I could not, now, but I should like to practice sometime. After.

[ Oh, and a face that she recognizes. Even if they only knew one another briefly. He looks pleased, but she will not question it and nods in return. Nor does she know of the other man's departure from this land. ] Lord Snow.

I look forward to it. So you're away from the castle?

Aye, I am the Captain of Cothromach's guard now, and I live there with my brothers and sisters. It is to the east of Caer Glaem, through the Spinebacks. Sansa is its Lady Keeper. [Come to Cothromach: it's a great place to vacation as long as you don't mind living underground and never getting a tan again!] But there is a fairy-ring within it, so return will not be difficult.

[ Honestly, it sounds better than her last trip anywhere underground! No darkspawn, or giant rock abominations, and the like. ]

Lady Sansa is your sister? I remember that your father was here -- do you have other family present as well?

[ She's got no family to speak of to arrive save for Donnic (and Hawke, she falls under that), she's not sure how she'd feel about him getting mixed up in this, despite how much she misses the man. ]

It is a pleasure to meet you, Captain Hendyr. [At this point, Dorian has basically given up questioning the positions of authority women have. It still gives him a little pause, but he has seen too much to worry about it. (Besides they're all kind of awesome so it's like, hell yeah.) He will be formal, because she is a captain and deserves respect as such!] My name is Dorian Gray. I am attempting to learn the sword, and would greatly appreciate your aid in training.

And you, Dorian. [ she's not encountered that attitude much - for the most part, not a lot of questioning of her gender or rank. Still she's formal in her answer, nodding slightly. ]

Of course. Everyone who has the desire or need to learn should be able to, here.

I believe there's a training yard outside of the castle. Are you familiar with its location?

I am. Are there times when you will be training there?

In the mornings, usually. Early enough and it's fairly less busy.

Will that work for you?

[Ugh. Early mornings. But he has to learn this.]

Yes, I can come then.

[ Sorry, she's a morning person. It's unfortunate. ]

Alright. I'll see you then.

For this effort I think we need all the captains we can get, Captain Hendyr. [ The formality there isn't one she necessarily means to be present, but she likes people who are captains and know how to fight. Even if she isn't one here— well once a captain, always a captain. ]

Do you have any objections practicing with someone younger than you?

Indeed. We need to work together, if we're going to accomplish anything. [ while she wouldn't expect anyone not under her command to adjust her as such but she doesn't try to correct this one. Captain solidarity. ]

Many of the guards I've taught or trained with over the years are younger than myself. I've no objections to it.

Exactly. Even if— we may not all get along, we're still fighting the same fight. [ So to speak. ]

I'll have to borrow one of the swords from our armory to make things a bit even, but I could use my dagger just as easily. [ A pause. ] How much younger were they usually?

Whatever you're more comfortable with. I would be using a longsword, myself.

That depends... The youngest, was perhaps in her twentieth year. Elven.

The closest thing to that I've ever used would be my sword at home. Or spear if we're talking length. You don't usually fight with longswords where I'm from.

[ Reyna's lips quirk up a bit. ] I'm younger than her and not— elven. Sixteen, but I've been doing it long enough that it's second nature to me.

That's fine. If you're really interested in practicing, then it won't be a problem.
