By now, I'm sure nearly all of us have heard the news. This is a war, despite the slight amount of peace we were afforded.

To this, I've set up preparations to have space at the Ward cleared out, for use in conducting a series of training sessions this month for those who wish to learn the arts of hand to hand and swordplay, or wish to refine their technique. The beginner's class will be in the morning, the more advanced class in the afternoon.

I am also looking for those who'd wish to instruct beside me. Our ranks have quite the accomplished sort among them, and if you have the time, the desire, and the patience to impart your knowledge, I ask that you please do.

We begin tomorrow morning at half past eight.

I'm not at Caer Scima at the moment but I'm used to giving lessons, if there are any who need instruction currently near the southern borders. I could return later in the month.

I'll certainly keep that in mind, thank you. It would be easier for some to be able to come to you rather than having to lose time returning to the Caer, and with the Seelie on the borders, we're going to need eyes there.

I can meet anyone who wants to come to me for instruction and I'll be aware of any movements. I like being on the road. If any other sort of information from the area would be helpful in order to prevent conflict, tell me what you need me to send along.

I'd like to take you up on that once I'm convinced the beginning class won't take off their own limbs with a blade. There's nothing better than practice that actually requires you to think for improvement.

If they take their own limbs off, perhaps advanced prosthetics can be obtained to make them more deadly.

Hey, Grell. [ his own tone is very conversational, as though she's like sokka or katara or someone from the fire nation. he knows her, even if he doesn't — she'd lost something just as he had. it sort of puts them on more-than-acquaintances terms. ] I was taught how to fight with dual dao swords when I was younger. I taught the Av — my friend how to use his firebending.

I've got it back now — my firebending. [ and that means his confidence has returned, as well as the screws that had been loosened and lost in his head. it's all implied, him not being quite up to stuff without his bending. but his tone remains to be conversational, almost implying he's the good cop around here. ] So, I can help you train anyone interested in swords if you want. And anyone with an ability, too — even if it's not fire, I imagine it's the same thing in some sense.

Truthfully, if I wasn't an instructor, I'd come to you for fire training. As it is, I'd be delighted to have you teaching with me.

[and her tone is sincere! because honestly, she cannot run all the classes alone, she'll run herself ragged between that and her personal work.]

Would you prefer to work with the beginners, or the ones who already have some skill?

[ if only she could see him — well, his expression isn't really telling. but if she's to ask, he'd only say yes — he'll never admit he actually kind of liked teaching aang how to use his firebending. it felt kind of … nice. ]

[ but as for which group he prefers … either way, someone's going to end up being burned by his bad temper. ] I'll try the beginners. [ he really has no preference, but considering aang was basically a beginner and that wasn't too bad … ] And whenever you want to learn anything about fire, I'd be happy to help. What did you want to learn, anyway?

Mister Celegorm's father gave me a sword when I first came here, but I'm afraid I'm not very good at it. It's a lovely sword and I would like to learn how to use it.

Hm. [she pauses.] Given your skill with your own blade I'm inclined to say you should join the advanced class, but if you don't feel confident enough, the beginner's class could prove useful. Bring the sword and come to the class that you feel you'll be comfortable in.

Advanced class...?

[ In no way does she feel good as the rest of her friends with the sword. ]

I can fight with the vorpal blade, but I'm not so certain about a sword. [ Everything is a pain when you're small and elves give you things their size. ] It cuts nicely, but I'm terrible with it.

You'll help train them? I thought for sure you'd be signing up to be trained. [she hasn't forgotten you admitting you can't fight.]

But not everything a soldier has to learn is stabbing and ducking, you know.

[Well, admittedly Berserker is not so sure he has the patience, nor the desire, really, to teach. But on the other hand, it's something to do, that involves something he likes, is centred on it, even. It would be better than sitting around.]

The teaching methods may be our own, I assume?

As long as they teach the subjects mentioned and they don't leave our soldiers incapacitated, it would be hard to get me to disapprove of any method.

But forgive me sir, I don't believe we've met -- may I ask your name?

[He pauses before answering the question, however. He might almost like to flaunt his true name here (well, Hyde, that is), with that boast of having 'the accomplished sort'. But he supposes he shouldn't.]

Hardly. [she grins -- does she look like a military instructor to you? someone as graceful and elegant as her?] But I know my way around the battlefield.

[ after receiving her christmas present from morla (and the ever so lovely grell), she feels more inspired to join the cause. katherine knows how to work a spear; she knows how to turn almost anything into a weapon. what she doesn't know is how to properly wield one as if she had been properly born as a knight in the 1400s. throughout the eras she has lived, she's never been under the proper tutelage of a teacher. and it's only best she begin to learn how to properly balance her weight instead of merely throwing herself to instinct and allowing her strength and ability to kick anyone's ass do the work for her. ]

[ her lessons with gwen have seen her crack her wrist more and more, but it never hurts to get a second opinion. ]

Not quite my area of study, truth be told, though someone who's just volunteered to teach has claimed that "whatever you have need of, I quite possibly can teach it." So you needn't be disappointed, if his claims hold true.
