[With a deep breath, Roa raised his arms and stepped out into the bright day of a sunny village, to which he began fixing his hair into a pony-tail with a smile. With blond hair and blue eyes, Roa looked the part of nearly any other person that would have passed through, with the exception that he was dressed like a gangster with an open-collared dress shirt and leather pants. The image itself must have only been disconcerting to a handful of people. Pointedly, Roa looked up to the sky and stepped around, inspecting himself. At his side, a young woman with wild blond hair was fletching arrows, looking down her palm at each one she made. While the young woman seemed utterly unconcerned with Roa, there were a number of people around giving the man odd looks.

The odd looks intensified when Roa stripped off his shirt and held it aside from himself, checking himself for blemishes the whole while. People averted their eyes(because he was a bit on the pale side) when he started moving around, absolutely delighted with himself. The hunter that had been sitting beside him finally stood up after awhile and began walking away, not bothering to look back at him. After awhile, one could probably catch out of the corner of their eye that a few sparkles were trailing after him.]

Now, this--this feels great... And, it's putting me in a wonderful mood, too.

[Roa draped his shirt over his shoulder and began walking, moving past confused faces without a second thought.]

I wonder who'll be willing to accept that generosity!

[In that especially good mood, Roa high fived a young man who had raised his hand to wave to a friend. Confused, the man yelped and stared mutely at his hand, not exactly sure what happened to him.]

(OOC: The mysteriousness must remain! Roa has a map of Quendi and makes local discoveries on a weekly basis--and this week's discovery is light magic, which he's reverse-engineered so he can spend some time out in daylight. He's also a little south of Caer Scima.)

...Are you sparkling?

[Because that is what the tween is going to notice, yup.]

Behind you. [She points.] You're sparkling. Like you've got glitter falling off you.

[He turned and looked. There weren't any sparkles unless he was walking--]

[The child huffs.]

They were there when you were walking. You shimmered!

Maybe a flare of light? I don't see anything. [He frowned inwardly. Well, it was a child. She could have been playing with him.]

No, it was there! Look, there are other people there, right? Ask them!

Yo. [He waved to one young lady, who shrieked and ran away from his shirtlessness. Roa didn't really react.]

That's a pretty useless answer.

Are you kidding, kid? I'd believe the sparkle thing more than the idea of people taking me seriously.

Why would I make it up?

Children make up interesting things.

[Though, he was mostly just teasing, irritated by the prospect of a spell going awry.

An effect he didn't plan for was a sign of imperfection. Now, if he intended for the sparkles...]

But you really were sparkling.

Even if it's true, so long as I have the desired effect, it doesn't matter.

As irritatingly flamboyant as that would be.

Pleasing is an understatement.

No, you just see me when I'm in my best condition! [Not even a lie. Roa didn't waste time communicating when he was starving or screaming at nothing and cutting up corpses. He only showed himself when he was feeling like he was in tip-top shape.]

Why would I show anything less than a hundred percent?

I'm sure you can tell why it's handy to be deceitful, right?

That would relatively depend on the situation. As for me, I dislike deception. To each their own, I suppose, just be sure that doesn't come back to haunt you.

[ She hopes that it does out of spite. ]

Those who dislike it tend to be the victims of it. I prefer not to be one, myself, so I indulge in it to keep my muscles limber.

[He snickered all the same, shrugging.]

Funny enough, in any of my lives, I've never once been betrayed. My old friends had supported me throughout more ages than one should have expected.

In all of your lives? I guess that works -- it seems like every other non-aging type is a bit quirky, to put it mildly. And what about your friends here? Or are they too wrapped up in choir practice?

I'm not so desperate to call my slaves 'friends'. That's more demeaning to me than them.

...well, that certainly seems convenient, but I have absolutely no idea why you spend any time out in public whatsoever.

Because, typically, it's not fun to stay huddled up in pitch black chambers all day and night. Even a vampire can grow impatient, Archibald.

Yes, but is the sparkling at all necessary? Does being able to go out in the sunlight mean that you have to douse yourself in something that makes you look like you had an accident in the glitter aisle of a craft store?

...well, that's just somewhat odd, I suppose. It could be something that lockets pick up but unaided eyes can't detect... which would be interesting, actually. Perhaps I ought to look into it.

[It's definitely there, but Roa's the only one who can't see it. The reason? The veil of shadow is reflecting light in places and that constantly reflected light creates little sparkles inside the mixture of darkness that protects him...

Admittedly, it's very fun. Stealing aelven magic is an entertaining way to pass the time, side-effects not-withstanding.
