For those who knew her, the Lady Eowyn is gone. She left little, but what remains I have accounted to myself. She is, I hope, safely home once again.

[ he tips his head in a bow and turns the locket off ]

I hope so as well, though I shall make sure to bring along suitable attire should the weather turn on us.

A good cloak to keep out the rain is always a good idea! [ Faramir nods with a small laugh ]

As is waterproofing your packs, I learnt that lesson well enough! Will your majesty need aid in packing?

I shall make sure to have one. [She smiled gratefully, she had done so little traveling and always in a carriage and going from estate to estate, not exactly roughing it.]

Any assistance would be appreciated. Have you attended an Elven party before? I am not sure what to expect.

[ Faramir looks thoughtful ]

I suppose we should see if the Palace itself might supply some of your needs - I shall ask around and see what might be obtained, with your permission.

I have not - the Lord Legolas is a good friend, but we have been busy with rebuilding, and apart from a few of the Eldar like the Lord Legolas, there has been not much time for a great deal of contact between our peoples. Once things become easier, and the roads are once again safe, I am sure this will change!

Perhaps we should meet in person to discuss what may need to be packed and then we could both search?

That is my hope as well, I have only met the King once but he seems very gracious from my first impression.

A good idea, majesty! [ Faramir nods and offers ] I have little of import to be doing, I could see to meeting today if it suited.

Ah, I have yet to meet any of them, but I am inclined to think kindly on them for allowing my lady queen to dwell here with my lord.

I am free as well today.

That is most generous of them. I am truly looking forward to this occasion, especially being able celebrate Christmastime with some new friends.

Then I will come and we shall see what needs doing. [ Faramir smiles back ]

As am I - in Gondor we celebrate Mettare, rather than Yule, and Christmas I do not know, but it will be good to learn, I think!

Mettare? How is that celebrated?

Christmas is one of my most favorite times of year, especially in France. Everything is decorated, there is music all around the palace, and the gardens are covered in snow. It's quite magical.

It holds a good deal of similarity to Yule, I think - although for us tis a more solemn time - It falls around this time of year, and is when we celebrate the turn of the Old Year into the New. For most, it is a time of reflection, reviewing the past and looking forwards to the future. At sundown, there is traditionally only one hearth that remains lit, until midnight, when its coals are used to relight all the others in the city. Tis a time for families to gather - in Gondor we would often light small candles and send them drifting down the Aunduin to the sea with our wishes for the New Year. The next day is Yestare, a feast day, when the grand halls are thrown open so that all may come and rejoice in the beginning of a new year.

[ He smiles to hear her descriptions ] It sounds truly wonderful, and I wish I could see it. Is it similar to how things are here?

[Anne is fascinated and listens intently, eyes slightly wide.] That seems like such a lovely tradition.

It's somewhat similar though very different from the country where I was born. In Spain, we went to church to pray and offer thanks for all the blessings God had bestowed upon us. My mother would give me chocolates and small gifts, though. France, my husband gave me little clay figures of the saints at Christmas which is custom there.

I certainly thought it so, although to be fair, tis what I am used to eh? The Northern Dunedain like my Lord King celebrate similarly, but some of the traditions are slightly different - he tells me they have adopted some of the traditions of the Halflings of the Shire, which are closer to the Yule here.

[ He listens just as intently to her tale ] Spain and France. We do not have anything like a... a church? but we also offer prayers to Eru Allfather. I do not know what a saint is?

Halfings? [Anne's never heard such a term before.]

We have our Lord God, who is the father of us all. His son, Jesus Christ, and his mother, Lady Madonna. The saints are those who are recognized for their holiness, such as Saint Paul who traveled far and wide to spread the gospel.

So called because they are a small people - about half the height of a man - although they prefer 'hobbits'. [ he nods and listens ]

No names I recognize there, alas. But I suppose that is not surprising - seeing as we come from very different places!

It seems we do but I believe that is what makes this place so incredible. I never would have had such an opportunity to learn so much before, about your world.

Indeed, I will confess that of all the things this place has brought me, the joy of learning of all these new places and tales will be fondly remembered.

It must be easy to dwell upon what we have left behind, I am sure we will miss those familiar places and loved ones but hopefully that joy will bring some comfort here.

Your majesty speaks with great wisdom, and indeed, I hope that it will. You have already lifted my heart, and I thank you.

It is my hope that I am able to help in some small measure so I am glad for that. There is no thanks needed, we are friends.

Friends are precious treasures indeed which should never be taken for granted. [ He smiles back at her ] And so I thank you, all the same.

I look forward to seeing you soon then, I should let you go to attend to other matters.
