[The person of indeterminate gender speaking through the locket looked rather fearsome if only for the armor they were wearing which bore a thematic scheme much like that of a great demon. Looking past that however, one may see that, without the large spike jutting from the iron helm sitting on their head, the person in question was likely no more then five feet in height at best, a size that somewhat diminished the effect of fear their armor was supposed to instill in others.

Without being able to see their face, it was a bit hard to tell just what Mordred was thinking at the moment. But from the rather calm and collected tone of her voice made it seem almost as if she was attending to errands, rather then speaking of anything of great import or substance.]

Something has been weighing on my mind since my arrival here, aside from the obvious question of why I've been called upon to fight a war such as this... that being upon which criteria the rulers of this land based their selection of whom they summon. If any kind soul would be gracious enough to share what they know of the process I would be eternally grateful, though I'm afraid that I can offer little in return for such information.

Yes, it was a glorious era that was unfortunately brought to an end by a ruler who had lost the trust of the people. That is partly why is is so liberating to be able to act as a knight in service to the people and rulers of a kingdom again. It has been something I've not experienced in ages and missed with all of my heart and soul.

It is also rather nice to be free of my Master for the time being, though that has nothing to do with my status as a knight.

ster? That's a weird choice of words for a Knight to use about their lord.

The only lord that I have ever served was my king, but he has long since fallen from grace and is no longer worthy of the devotion I showered upon him.

[That pause was an odd one, enough so that even Mordred was able to pick up on it. Pushing further, she continued her original line of thought.]

No, my Master is merely a man who called upon me to fight at his side in a war between Magi. The difference between the two is like comparing a lake to the great sea.

Ah, I take it he was not... as honorable as your lord was when he was still alive?

He is a necromancer, one whose trade involves dwelling amongst the dead and desecrating their corpses for magical use. To say he has almost no honor would be understatement to be sure.

I'm sorry, but the thought of that makes me think that both of you are probably quite the unconventional pair.

Come now, there is no need to apologize. The contrast between is quite great no matter how one looks at it. Even in terms of size we are world apart, he is a giant of a man while I am only 5 feet tall by modern reckoning. So I imagine we do look strange standing beside one another.

Despite his shady dealings, I've found some common ground with his cause. Not to mention that he has proven himself on more then one occasion to be capable of assisting my efforts in battle.

[He was also the only person to ever call her "king." So it was only natural she'd at least appreciate his company.]

Well, at least now you can act on your own for a while, right? A little freedom for a bit wouldn't hurt, I guess.

It is quite enjoyable to come and go as I please, I will admit that much. Finding something to do with that new found freedom has been more difficult however.

Well, I'm sure you can find something to do sooner or later.

[ Because it's only normal to wish someone luck, after all. ]
