[The locket opened to Javik’s face, mouth pulled down in a scowl. He was inside somewhere dimly lit, and a horse nickering could be heard not too far off. Without demon dogs slowing him down, he’d made it to Treun in good time, arriving just before sundown. His attempt to check in with a few people, however, had reminded him of House’s silence since he’d last seen him at Samhain. If he’d angered the doctor, he expected to hear about it rather than being met with static. That left few other options.]

I have attempted to contact the human doctor Gregory House several times this past month. He has not responded, and this ridiculous device will not even recognize his presence.

[He worked his jaw for a second, looking as though he were chewing on something bitter. First Daud, then Will, and now the doctor? Who was next, himself or Maglor? He was no stranger to losing allies, but when they just vanished it was infuriating.]

I believe he is gone from this world. When I return to the Station, I will inspect his room to confirm it. If you know anything otherwise, you will inform me.

[ He snapped the locket shut, ending the video.]

Damn... [Castle furrows his brow.] He and I got along pretty well. [Of all the people that Castle had met here so far, House had reminded him the most of home.]

The doctor had an irritating sense of humor. [Javik always remembered the positive things.] Did you know him long?

[Castle has an irritating sense of humor too, which must be why they got along.] No. I've only been here about two months.

[In that case, if there was enough alcohol involved, he and Castle might get along just fine.] He did not speak much of the others he knew here. What is your name?

Of course not. [He was actually going to be polite about this. House better appreciate it, wherever he was.] I have been to Earth, however. I was there when the imps found me.

Really? So aliens do make contact... Do you know what year on Earth it was at all?

[If 'make contact' meant the same thing as accidentally breaking intergalactic law and starting a war with the turians, sure.]

Yes. 2186. This was quite some time in the future from the doctor's point of origin.

Yeah, mine too. I'll be dead by then. Unless science advances to the point where my body can be preserved and I can live an exceptionally long time. Of course, now I'm here, so I'll miss it regardless.

You will not have such technology for many years, although I understand your average lifespan is 150. Here, it has been tripled.

[Javik was relatively young for his species, so... he was going to be here for awhile.]

In 2014 the average human lifespan wasn't 150. And wait, you mean.. in the Drabwurld it's been tripled?

As I understand it, yes. I would say I met a human that has been here over 400 years, although... I do not believe she was entirely human.

[Either it was the genetic engineering, or the vampirism.]

[He's stunned into silence for a moment. Castle doesn't know what to make of this and he's not sure how he feels about it.]

Is the aging process just greatly slowed down?

I do not know. I did not do much research into the subject, other than knowing it is another great inconvenience this place has put upon us.

Why's that an inconvenience?

[Castle sees it as getting to have an extended life and he's not necessarily against that, though this place can definitely suck sometimes.]

I did not intend to be alive this long, let alone another two thousand years.

[Natural causes would be the worst way to go, if you asked him.]

Ah. What's the average lifespan for your.. species?

[Might as well learn a bit about the creatures that would eventually make contact with humans.]

700. Less than that of the asari and the krogan, but certainly more than the salarians.

[Protheans were extinct by the time humans and other aliens made contact. It was a long, complicated story about why he was even here.]

Damn. We're at about 80 in the time in place where I come from. Different places in the world have slightly different life expectancies though.

[And he assumes those mentioned are other alien species he knows nothing of.]

Your technology and medicine are still very primitive. I do not know what your full potential is, however.

[Or if they'd ever find it before the Reapers drove them to extinction alongside everyone else.]

Kind of amazing to think our medicine is primitive, though considering the strides we've made in 100 years I can only imagine what the next hundred hold.

[Castle doesn't know what the Reapers are and is probably glad for that.]

Do you go to the Station often?

[In another hundred years Javik would still consider it primitive, but he didn't comment on it this time.]

I have been several times, yes. The technology is still archaic, though it is a marvel to many people here.

[The word 'archaic' produces a tiny smile from him.]

Yeah, it's about on par with what I had at home. I can charge and use my phone there, which is nice. Though I can't call anyone, of course.
