Forge Three - (Audio/Action)

Bloody fairies never manage to get things right, do they?

[Like many, Gendry received his boon two days ago, but he hasn't gotten any closer to making proper use of it. Oh sure, walking back and forth through a set of mirrors is a jolly experience, but it's a pain in the ass if they're both in the same room. Though he won't deny he did have a bit of fun setting them across each other and walking through the portal over and over. But! That's not what he'd wanted!]

Seems if you want something decent, you've got to be specific. Seven hells... [He has no choice! He must do the unthinkable:] Stiles, you still about?

[Yes. He must ask STILES for help. That most dreaded of occurrences! Sure, there might be other people who could teleport him from Cothromach to Troichean Beinn in a blink of the eye. But those are other people and Gendry's faith in other people is roughly equivalent to his faith in this war ending amicably. If he's called a suspicious bastard, then it is a one hundred perfect accurate description of him.

But the locket is still in his hand and he realizes he's addressing both courts at large. Damn.]

... just, be careful about your boons, eh? The fairies like to be stingy, if you let them. [There. He's done the community at large a favor.]

When Gendry wasn't in his room messing about with a set of magic mirrors, he was hard at work at one of the forges. Though he wasn't officially apprenticing at any of the shops, one of the master smiths had agreed to hire Gendry on while he was in the city. So that meant keeping busy as he hammered tirelessly at some new sword. His Shard ached as he drew on its power to give superhuman blows. It was hard work and the sword wouldn't even be his, but he now knew enough about dwarven magic that he could finally give his uncle a good and strong sword. This is what he'd been doing ever since the battle had ended and he'd at last turned his work to other projects. This item was now nearly done and by evening, after he'd honed it to a razor's edge, he would find his uncle's home in the Cothromach to come knocking.

27th
After his message on the lockets, Gendry left to be at his normal routine. He was living in the Keeper's tower now and so he would eat his first and last meals of the day there. Other hours would see him in the market, working at one of the forges earning his wages by small commissions of tools or shoeing horses. Hardly work for an apprentice of Bordan Gret, but he did not seem to mind this simpler work. For those looking to find him or simply anyone in the city looking for goods, he was an easy man to find. His grumbling about boons aside, he was in as good a mood as he could be expected to be in.

Seven hells, someone else now? [These people...!] You can leave him alone a bit, can't you?

[He looked at the three wolves giving him the eye, like Jon being asleep was his fault.]

Um, yeah. I think so. Why, what's up?

I need your help with something. Though it might yet take awhile. It might involve... your carpet. [He says this last word warily, as though he can't quite wrap his mind around asking for something so strange.]

[Gendry needed his help? With his carpet? Okay, well, Hell had officially frozen over...]

You know, for people that really don't like it or what it does, you guys seem to be needing it often enough. It's not going to bite, Gendry.

Of course it won't bite. It's whether it will fly what concerns me.

Cease your bitching. I didn't spell it. Hermione did. So magic me or not, the carpet's still going to fly.

[He frowns. Bitching! That he understood well enough.]

I've something to show you, then.

[Good. They were actually speaking each other's language for once.]

Yeah? What's that?

You'll see when you see it.

[Gendry cannot bring himself to verbalize that he was given two mirrors. It was humiliating. What kind of ponce wanted to be able to look at himself?]

... Okay cryptic blacksmith. So, what, you want me to meet you somewhere?

My room. You know where that is? [Because... he might not. It's not like anyone ever gets invited there.]

No. I haven't been invited to your lair. Should I just follow the sense of impending doom?

I'll wait outside it, then. It's the same hall as yours.

Ookay. I guess I'll be there in a couple minutes.

[That was his way of saying goodbye, closing the locket and getting up to leave. He made sure he had his pouch, which had his carpet, then headed over to his door and out of the room, searching along the hall for Gendry.]

Yoo-hoo. Romeo...

[As promised, Gendry could be found outside his room. His arms were crossed and he looked like his typical sullen self, but perhaps more impatient than usual. When he heard Stiles, he pushed himself off the wall and gave him his typical puzzled look whenever madness fell out of his friend's mouth.]

You forget who you were looking for?

What? No, I was just-- never mind.

[Goddammit. Gendry. He needed to just matrix-fill your brain with info. Maybe he could look at his books for some kind of culture switch spell.]

What's got a bug up your butt?

[Gendry just stares at Stiles and opens his mouth to say something, but settles on a grimace. He would never understand Stiles and his fascination with butts. So instead he led him inside the room which was a messy thing with blankets thrown about on the floor and weapons leaning against the wall. It smelled thick of sweat and lived it. A very mannish smell. But what was very un-mannish was the two full sized dressing mirrors on either side that were brilliantly reflective and set in a fine oak furnish. Gendry gestured for Stiles to have a look.]

They put both of them here.

[Stiles came in and his eyes were immediately drawn to the mirrors, both of them looking immensely out of place in relation to the rest of Gendry's quarters. But as he wasn't privy to what these mirrors did, he just turned to give Gendry a confused look.]

Well, yeah. Looks like they did. And..?

Well? Have a look at it. [He gestured for Stiles to stand in front of one mirror.]

[He went to stand in front of it, looking over at Gendry, then back to the mirror. What exactly was he supposed to be seeing here, bro?]

[Gendry nodded, walked to the other mirror and reached a hand inside it. Instantly his hand emerged from the mirror Stiles stood before. Once he had Stiles by the collar of his shirt, he dragged him towards him.]

[He started visibly when Gendry's hand just popped out in front of him and he realized what the mirror were. Oh. Great. Porting mirrors. That wouldn't have been so bad, but Gendry was pulling him in and then he wasn't where he'd been, being pulled through the other mirror and standing just a wee bit too close to the blacksmith.]

Okay. I got it. You have magic mirrors. So... what's the problem?

[He released Stiles then, as if concerned for his friend's well being, patted him on the shoulders as though to dust him off and ensure he'd arrived all in one piece. Yet, his smirk of satisfaction turned to a frown all at once.]

The problem is, they're both here. This room ain't so large that I have trouble crossing from one side to the other.

[He was touched. Really. But he turned and looked at the mirrors, realizing Gendry's problem.]

Ah. Right. So... where was it supposed to go.

[He frowned and sounded defeated.]

Troichean Beinn. I had the notion I could live here, but keep my apprenticeship there. Only, it ain't worked out so well.
