[ The message is broadcast twice, from two separate lockets. The background is a small inn near Daonna, Waver is in the forefront, while Kaldur has maps spread out across a table, and is quietly casting on the maps and making frantic annotations. ]

Good evening. As many of you have heard by now, much has been made about the threat of Reynard the Fox at Redgate. Doubtlessly, you’ve also noticed that since that announcement no other word has come out of the fortress. This is, to say the least, very alarming.

[ Kaldur looks up, briefly, to face the camera. ]

I am attempting to scry for the locations of individuals known to be at Redgate or near Redgate at this time, in light of the threat Reynard poses, in hopes that more information can be found.

If they have already engaged Reynard, and are trying to fight him, hopefully, we will be able to find out.

Until then, or until we have direct information from Saralegui himself, I would like to ask that everyone who is intending to lend aid to Redgate gather in Daonna. This gives us all an opportunity to group up, prepare, plan, and present a united front if things are as bad as they seem right now. Whenever we have word, we can act together. If you are en route, come to Daonna. If you are already up the mountains, please return.

I realize that I have no authority to enforce this, but I do ask that you heavily consider this option before forging on ahead.

[ In the background, Kaldur looks as though he is about to curse, and pulls Waver’s attention towards what he has found briefly, before setting at it again, and speaking towards the feed. ]

I also urge those who are heading to Redgate to gather with us, until we gain more information and can adequately prepare for what we will be faced with.

[Waver knows that if he doesn't head this off at the pass and make a good argument, he'll fuck himself and this objective over all too fast.]

Reynard is the master of the long game. His real objectives, which include vengeance on Alyosha for only the monarchs know why, have been in the works for decades before any of us even arrived here.

[Waver's voice continues, crisp and pointed.]

Clarisse. I don't doubt you will give him cause to regret not factoring you into his plans. In fact, I very much hope you do, he reacts like a child when his plans go awry. [That had been rewarding for the two seconds Waver had seen it before realizing what an error he had made.] But I must ask you to consider what moving too early might mean. Reynard is a known shard hunter. Leading people into a fight and having them lose shards because of a miscalculation is a reprehensible error.

I know that I don't have any authority here, beyond trying to organize things. All I ask is that you stay your hand until we have solid intel. Nothing more, nothing less.

[ she almost says and i'm a master of kicking people's asses, but she holds her tongue when waver addresses her by name, at least letting him say his piece before she interjects with her own opinions on the matter. she knows the risks of seeing red and running straight for it — she's made that mistake countless times. but it's when he mentions reynard's infamy of shard hunting, of leading people into a fight to have them lose shards ... her actions during the battle for the silmaril aren't a secret, and it may be likely that waver hadn't intended to push that particular button, but he pushes it nonetheless. ]

You think I don't know that? If you're here to blame me for all the losses on the field of battle against Celegorm, you're a little late to the party. [ and there isn't anyone she blames more than herself, even if that's a wound she's been trying to heal. ] Or, are you here to remind me about the shard I stole? Guess Reynard and I aren't so different. [ her brows raise as if to say now are we? but furrow shortly thereafter, because even if she once stole someone's shard, she hasn't kept doing it. ] Except I know how reprehensible it is when someone loses a shard. So don't lecture me about miscalculations and staying my hand. [ as gung-ho as she is about this, she wouldn't endanger the lives of anyone else; she'd play along with the team business until she could ditch them and face reynard on her own, shardstealer to shardstealer. ] Just tell me when you actually have something more useful than nothing.

I never said I blamed you, nor did I bring the matter up. [Clearly, there's no reason to. It sounds like assumptions were made, saying a lot about Clarisse's sense of responsibility. That's something Waver can respect.] I was explaining my own hesitations and why we're seemingly inactive right now. I apologise for the offense caused.

We do have an intel update from within Redgate. Reynard was himself, pulled some shit, and the current custodian is asking that we locate the shardbearers that have been since displaced by Reynard existing and being Reynard.

[ clarisse huffs, and that about settles the matter of offending her. moving on. ]

... Displaced? [ not that she actually gives much of a fuck about displaced shardbearers, as she's pretty sure someone more adept at locating people can handle that. she just wants a fight with this so-called fox. ] Where is Reynard now?

Our other current problem, although not the one we've been asked to focus on by Redgate's current administrator. In attempting to track Reynard, Kaldur's scrying picked up on the fact that Reynard seems to be teleporting rapidly, without lingering in one place.

[Waver's unaware if Clarisse knows about the sigils, about Reynard's end game to make himself king, and he isn't sure that she's the best person to tell information that sensitive to. For now, the matter will have to be set aside.]

The other option is that even if he isn't teleporting, he's found a way to scramble any tracking attempts to make it look like he's everywhere at once. Either way, it's a concern, as Redgate usually nullifies magic due to the blood granite it is surrounded by.

[ it's probably best she doesn't know about any of that for now, or she'd likely trying to be starting an all-out war with him, and they really don't need a repeat of the silmaril fiasco. at least it seems safe to say that reynard definitely is the enemy, though, of the seelie and unseelie. and what's that saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"? ]

So he's a coward, running from a fight and afraid of getting caught. [ that's at least one thing she can say about celegorm: he was never a coward. even at the very end, he faced death with remarkable courage. ]

That's the long and short of it. [Actually, Waver figures that Reynard's deploying a bit of strategy right now, but trying to divine what that strategy is? A waste of energy.]

[ whether it's strategy or not, clarisse really only has on opinion on the matter: ] Well, he should be afraid. [ because with people like clarisse looking out for an opportunity to kick his ass? it'd be better for him to never show his face ever again. ] He hasn't met a daughter of war. [ or even if he has, somehow, he's never met her. ]

I don't imagine he has, and I look forward to his being taken utterly aback at the whole thing.

[Stranger things had happened. The element of surprise had helped Waver in his own fight against Reynard back in July.]

Kaldur and I will keep you updated. I promise.

[ with a curt nod, ] Good. I'll be waiting. [ yep, and that's it. ]
