( there is a level of quiet calculation to the way lydia addresses the locketed network. she wears not nearly as much makeup. her hair isn't kept in ringlets or curls, nothing fancy, but a simple bun. she seems... slightly detached, from everything, though she's not necessarily detached in an unpleasant way. she's just.. well. she's older. and she holds herself high and with a much more adult strength than previously. )

I slept again. I dreamed of home. Or maybe I lived it, while my body was trapped here. Either way. ( her lips form a thin line, something like a smile but not quite. and there is a certain measure of manipulation glinting just behind her eyes. )

For those of you who know Peter Hale, you should be made aware that anything he tells you about his strength of character is very likely a lie. He is a murderer, and he's the absolute best at the manipulation game. He doesn't care about anyone but himself, and it's very likely that he's using anyone he's pretended to befriend for personal gain. Just when you think you might be able to trust you again, he'll probably try to kill your best friends.

[It takes him thirty minutes to open his locket and reply to this. He paces back and forth in his room, his hands clenched into fists. Malia's already relayed part of the story to him. He supposes this is just further confirmation that he's going to be far too impertinent. Too rash.

He really, really cannot stomach the thought of being bested by Scott McCall twice. His eyes are wild, burning red with momentary fury.

Thirty minutes later, his eyes are still glowing but he's managed to reign his snarl into a calm smile. ]

( oh, there you are. she's not too surprised to see him. she looks vaguely satisfied actually. )

You wanted me out of the way. I think you'll find I'm not so easily obstructed. Maybe if you didn't try to kill people in your power-hungry insatiability, I wouldn't need to explain things as they are.

[He rolls his eyes. ]

What happened to forgiveness, Lydia? In any case, whatever might happen in my apparently near future, it's a path I have strayed from here.

Some things are unforgivable. ( she's already lost allison, and you tried to off scott. fuck you. she scoffs incredulously - strayed from? no. ) Only because, for some insane reason, your Alpha status has been restored through other means. [At first, there's nothing. Peter says nothing, his expression frozen on his face. ]

[And then he snaps. He roars, his eye burning and his face distorting from man to beast. He upturns his bed, the contents of dresser landing on the floor afterwards. There is an almighty crash as his locket flies through the air and collides with the candle holders on the wall.

Kate Argent is alive. Confirmed, alive. It's a thought he can't bear; he can't stomach the idea of her being alive, out there with the gifts he was born with. He can't fathom her with beserkers, can't get his mind around working with her, even to destroy Scott McCall.

He has to force himself to shift back into himself. His hands are shaking when he picks up the locket. There is a wild look in his eyes.]

Scott let her live?

( peter may be surprised to see that lydia barely flinches at his reaction. hardly at all, really. but she does make note of it. he still loses control, still has the capacity to snap and be every bit as destructive as she expects. do not anger him when he's nearby, she reminds herself to remind herself. do not free that beast in your presence. )

Scott was too busy fighting you off while you tried to kill him. There's more, of course, but like I said - held up at the school. I wasn't there. I know secondhand. However...

( this part, he may be further interested in than the rest. )

She got away. No one let her do anything. Derek and Braeden are going after her.

[There is something distinctively unpleasant about Derek chasing after Kate Argent. She's too clever, though she's just as arrogant. But she fights dirty and she's got years of the Argent manipulation under her belt.

If he's worried about Derek, it only shows on his face for a fleeting moment.

So Scott isn't dead. Another day goes on. ]

You don't have to go into detail. I'm sure there will come a time that I'll fall asleep here to experience it first hand. Congratulations, though, on surviving a beserker.

( lydia folds her arms over her chest, the locket resting on a dresser, and gives him a pointed look. )

I had help. ( her eyes narrow and she frowns. ) We all - well... We didn't exactly trust you but... I tried to defend you, Peter. The Sheriff was going to shoot you. And then you turned around, and you tried to kill Scott. All because you couldn't stand not being an Alpha anymore. What do you even have to say for yourself?

What is it, exactly, that you want me to say, Lydia?

[There's a lilt in his voice; genuine curiosity. There are things he regrets, though they are few and far between. He rarely feels remorse anymore. Especially not about Scott McCall. ]

I'm not a honorable person, Lydia. We both know that. I don't like Scott. I didn't like being a beta. There are two ways to gain power, in Beacon Hills and only one will ever be available to me. I won't apologize for trying to take it.

The consequences you suffer are far worse than any punishment someone could inflict on you here, Peter. But be warned that the actions you attempt don't go without equal and opposing reactions. The shardholders and native members of this world alike deserve to know what they're dealing with. ( she doesn't actually know what she wants him to say. mostly she wants him to be scared into hiding. which is a totally hilarious concept right because why would he do that ha ha ha teenagers think so many things that aren't possible... :c )

You should just be better here. And maybe you can, because you don't have any reason to go on a vengeful killing-your-own-niece spree, or trying-to-kill-teenagers spree. But that doesn't mean the people here don't deserve to be warned away from you.

Not quiet enough to not have a plan sleeping in the back of your mind, waiting to hatch. So, tell me the truth. Have you just been waiting, biding your time, to kill Scott? Drawing us in, getting close to us, making us think you're our ally - then, after everything, a false sense of security... You move in? Tell me the truth.

You've met other werewolves, Lydia. Scott is the exception to the rule. This is what we do. Even Derek is weak to power.

I don't like him. I would love to plead indifference on him, I really would. But he has everything I want and it is beyond grotesque. Seventeen years old and more naive than a puppy on Christmas day. What part of that is fair?

If you use the loosest definition of the word. ( flat tone is so very flat. )

It's fair because Scott's a decent person who actually deserves that kind of power. People like you don't. They never do, because they just abuse it.
