[ Alice has spent most of her day in her room, keeping to herself. After Samhain, she's feeling particularly burnt out socially, choosing to make the most of her time with her pet rabbit and her drawings. What she won't mention is that her hallucinations have gotten pretty vivid the past few days and they're riddling her drawings that are sprawled all over around her. Her hands are covered in blue thanks to the pastels. This is one of the weirder things she's drawn, spending a lot of time mindlessly on the face. She only stops once to itch her nose, getting the blue-black residue of the chalk pastels.]

Oh, bother.

[ Alice stifles a sneeze, rubbing it off her nose. Alice stops to adjust her neck.]

Well, I'm going to run out of pastels. I should have gotten them at the Station when I had the chance. Not one of my more finer projects, but I suppose it'll suffice for now. Do they even have these in Caer Scima?

Yes. [ He thought it was fitting. ]

I don't understand; why a heart? Were they lovers?

Yes. Shortly before the events surrounding her death, she told them that her heart was at peace when he is near.

[ And so he gave her heart that peace. Kind of. ]

[ Still. There's no scorn, just curiosity. Alice can't help but wonder what on earth happened to this aforementioned woman. ]

Was that the only way that she could help?

I do not interfere much, in my own world. It was the best option for the both of us.

[ He could have just raised her from the dead, had he wanted to, though that likely would have caused more panic -- she wouldn't have been living again, whole. ]

[ Oh, the irony. She had seen what a spirit could be like raised from the dead in Berserker. He's miserable, full of loathing for himself. She thinks of him as he says this. Maybe the same would apply for this woman, too. ]

Is she at peace now?

She is with him. And what she wished to happen has been done.

[ Her daughter rescued, her lover free. Corvo had perhaps not taken the path that Jessamine would have wanted, but Jessamine was a bit too unaware in her current form. Corvo had yet to turn the Heart upon himself, and she would remain in her somewhat sedated state until then.

Though she had certainly woken up around Daud. ]

[ It's like a fairy tale, in a way. ]

I suppose that is what matters. Right?

Many things matter. But perhaps. Her daughter is safe, those who conspired to murder her punish.

[ So really, what's there to complain about?

Other than how shitty everything in Dunwall is. ]

Her poor daughter.

[ There would be if the daughter was very young -- Alice knows what it's like to be orphaned. ]

She is the Empress herself, now. Poised to make great changes.

[ Great and terrible and great. ]

Is she very young?

Ten. And she has been shaped by what has happened to her, what was done for her.

That is far too young... ten years old. Far too impressionable at that age.

How old are you, Alice?

[ It occurs to him that he's never thought to ask. ]

I am nineteen years old.

And you will live much longer than that, in this world.

[ Good. She's interesting. ]

I-

[Just a little odd, then again she rationalizes that she's actually eating here, sadly more than she's had in years. She was so sickly and malnutrition. But suddenly, Alice is actually hoping that she lives longer.

For once in her life, when she often wished she was dead along with her family. It's a strange realization and it over the oddity of his statement. ]

Well, yes. I would hope so.

[ Oh, Alice. The Outsider is no mind reader, but her pause makes him tilt his head. After a moment, he nods. ]

As do I.

Well, thank you.

[ She's not pleased about that part of her past. She's not really willing to let anyone know it, even the Outsider. And she highly doubts this is normal concern, but she'll take what she can get. ]

I'll be fine.
