[ Alice has spent most of her day in her room, keeping to herself. After Samhain, she's feeling particularly burnt out socially, choosing to make the most of her time with her pet rabbit and her drawings. What she won't mention is that her hallucinations have gotten pretty vivid the past few days and they're riddling her drawings that are sprawled all over around her. Her hands are covered in blue thanks to the pastels. This is one of the weirder things she's drawn, spending a lot of time mindlessly on the face. She only stops once to itch her nose, getting the blue-black residue of the chalk pastels.]

Oh, bother.

[ Alice stifles a sneeze, rubbing it off her nose. Alice stops to adjust her neck.]

Well, I'm going to run out of pastels. I should have gotten them at the Station when I had the chance. Not one of my more finer projects, but I suppose it'll suffice for now. Do they even have these in Caer Scima?

[ There's pieces of paper sprawled out around this young woman as well, but she's not in a room of her own, just one of the many tents available for the festivities. ]

Why not ask the little creatures? They seem to have no trouble providing small things upon request... provided they respect you.

Therein lies the problem. Not only that, but I don't think they know which ones are better suited for paper.

[ She hates to be picky, but these pastels have the perfect consistency for paper. ]

[ What has she done to possibly upset them? They seem to revere Rin enough and all she's done is create light shows to entertain them at times. ]

Couldn't you teach them? Provided you could have one grow so enchanted with you that they would care to be entertained by what you could provide.

[ Sometimes Alice is too much of a smart ass for her own good. ]

Either they're that dense sometimes or they do it on purpose.

It's more likely the former. Fairies aren't known to be all that malicious when it comes to playing tricks. The imps though... well, surely they are the trickster types.

Do you do this often? [ The art, that is. ]

When I can.

[ Naturally, Alice doesn't think she's the best, she doesn't have a lot of confidence in herself. ]

When things quiet down, that is.

You consider this quiet? [ There's a party going on and random teleporting. ]

Regardless, it's best to stay indoors for now. I wish I had thought to leave the festivities much sooner, but there was business to tend to.

You could probably sell it. [ Throwing out a suggestion to see how it sits with her. ]

[ She looks at her; she obviously is fairly young, maybe a few years younger than Alice at the most. It makes her grimace inwardly; how can this place continue pulling in the young is beyond her. ]

You haven't been here long, haven't you.

[ When she says quiet... ]

It's been peaceful for the past few days; when it does pick up again, the quests can be a little more than tiring.

[ You know, pretty brutal and violent -- not that Alice feels like she has to say. She can't help but feel a bit protective of those younger than her. ]

Ah geez, it's that obvious? I need to work on that if so...

[ Sheepishly trying to hide her experience behind a sigh. Heavy is the crown of youth. ]

The quests--do you mean the situation with the moon? Was that a quest?

Not like defending the moon. Actual battles. They've been easy enough to avoid so far, for now.

Why do you avoid them? [ The answer alone usually gives her enough context to the views of who she speaks with and seems innocent enough. ]

If you don't mind me asking.

I haven't.

[ Something flips in Alice's eyes -- the past weeks in which she's stressed and agonized over her own abilities and the safety of her friend. ]

I've been in several.

From the way you spoke of them, I had believed you tried to dodge being recruited.

[ That look is hauntingly familiar, but she can't place it. Must be a memory associated with the Grail War--but she is aware she threads on thin ice now. ]

It was my intention to stay out of them at first, as I am no knight or soldier.

[ Not even as she runs her fingers over the vorpal blade. She's done terrible things, lost her mind, and even made some stupid choices, but- ]

My friends tend to migrate towards it.

It appears the company you keep is foolish.

[ Smiling just a bit at that. ] I understand. Many of my allies here do the same. Engage in battles they don't fully understand and end up hurt as a result.

They might be foolish, but they are very skilled in what they do.

[ Unless you're the Outsider, then you're just there. ]

That's a shame, but it is unavoidable being wounded in battle. The courts are blessed with healers.

Yes, but there are some wounds that healers can't repair. [ The ones that are underneath the skin and of the mind. ]

Being able to fight alongside skilled fighters though... suppose they have no trouble with those kind of wounds then, no?

All the more reason why you should do your best to avoid it.

[ Alice knows that all too well. She's slipped a few times, but the people around her. Well... ]

I'm afraid some of my friends already have those. I do what I can to help ease it, whether they like it or not.

That's your mistake. [ Brazenly said. ]

Those kind of wounds can't be eased against their will. Men will hold themselves accountable for years until the anguish consumes them even if they have been forgiven by all they've met.

Taking a life is no easy feat, but the true test of character comes after when they close their eyes to sleep after.

Possibly.

[ Alice is showing too much of her darker tendencies in this conversation than normal. Possibly because she would like to say she has no real idea. Alice is young, but the damage left by Rutledge's care is permanent. ]

Just because they have broken minds already doesn't mean they won't degrade further into madness. To do the same thing over and over isn't insanity.

It is not being able to tell from what is real and what is a hallucination.

Is that how it is?

[ She's never had it spelled out that way for her, but then again any talks she's had of morality and sanity were with a sadist priest. ]

Well, I wouldn't know. Usually repeating the same thing over and over again in vain hopes of a different result isn't my style.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of those who chose to do that out there, who would qualify as sane by most.

But that sounds like someone overly stubborn, hardly mad.

Stubbornness can drive a person mad--if not them, then the companions around them.

[ Rin is all too familiar with feeling the after effects of another human being's stubbornness. It did drive her mad, but unloading that on a stranger is in poor taste, so she avoids it. ]

The one I know who would fall along those lines is the most compliant man I know.

[ WELL, BERSERKER IS. ]

But I have no doubts about that. Usually his compliance is enough to drive me up a wall.

[ Don't talk to her about Berserkers............... ]

Then surely he must know how to bring you back down. [ Poking, prodding. No one would tolerate it simply because they could, right? ]
