[ ACTION ]

[It was a long walk to Caer Glaem. Fortunately, Susan was close enough that that the road to it was fairly safe. She would feel better about this whole thing if her brothers and sister were here, or if she had her bow, or even her horn. Instead she was wearing her school clothes, and they were none too clean at this point. Still, Susan was hoping for a better explanation, and from what the friendly fairies and townspeople had to say the castle was the place to get it.

She was hungry. Fruit trees and handouts didn't do much in the way of assuaging hunger when one was walking all day. She hoped there would at least be food in the castle; it was looming large in her vision now and she hoped to get there within the end of the day. It was a good thing, too. She'd bathed in a stream that morning, but--

"Lawkamercyme!" cried a high pitched voice, and Susan turned her head just in time to see a small, green-tinted fairy fall into a faint. A dark shadow globbed its way towards the fairy, Susan was sure it had foul intent. Dark shadows with gleam of teeth almost always did. She wished for her bow more than ever, but didn't hesitate to pick up a large stone at her feet. She was frightened - how did one fight a shadow? Oh, she hated to fight - but she wasn't about to just stand there and watch. She shouted, "You! There! Get away from that fairy!"

The shadow did not seem much impressed. And so Susan threw the stone with impressive aim, clipping the beast right in the mouth. It hissed and abandoned the fairy, heading towards her instead. She bent to pick up another rock.]

[For a long moment, the locket shows a beautiful face with a furrowed brow, staring intently at its own reflection. Susan has never seen anything like this before. She is at the castle now, clean and clothed and fed, so her image doesn't look quite as dire as it had earlier that day, and her dark hair is swept back neatly in a braid.]
Ah - so it does work! At least, I assume it does, and this is a message going out all over the lockets and not just some sort of fancy mirror.

[In either case, she's beginning to feel a little self-conscious. She reaches for easily remembered dignity.] I don't mean to intrude, but I have heard that this is something which happens often. And I wonder, is there anyone from England here? [She misses her family; two weeks of walking among strangers in a strange land was more than enough alone time for now, thanks.] Or even [marked hesitation] Narnia?

I'm not sure I've ever heard of Narnia or England, but it's very possible there are people here from both of those places. There doesn't seem to be a limit on where in the cosmos the two kingdoms can travel in order to recruit.

[Hi, not-a-person here. Aubri is visible frazzled -- though someone who has not spoken with him much before might not know that ragged feathers and rapid, alert gaze are signs of such a thing.]

I have heard of neither, child. [He calls pretty much everyone younger than himself a child -- and he's an old bird.] Are you in a safe place?
bullhorned: (She followed me home from school)

Gendry had no intention of straying as far from the castle as he did. But ever since being given one of the hounds, he'd taken to the task of hunting these creatures seriously. Unfortunately the hound was taking it more serious than he was. And once it had caught the scent of yet another one, it had darted off from him and he'd lost the leash in the process. And so not wishing to make trouble with the kennelmaster, Gendry was left with no choice but to run after it.

"Get back here!" He called uselessly. "Bloody mutt, who cares if they're all the way out there? Get on back!"
thenameofscreen: No that's not a sex move. For X'hal's sake. (◘ » I gave him the Tamaranean bird.)

[After discovering the nasty little creatures all around the castle grounds (and realizing that there was ample means to fight them there) she'd elected to take the chance to see to the King's request. It was unnerving to think that there might be those outside the castle walls who were unable to defend themselves. It started with a patrol and gradually she expanded her search. Flying allowed her to travel further and faster than those on foot.

And a good thing, too. She just happens to see Susan below, bravely confronting one of the dark things...

Well then- Star would be remiss to not offer her assistance. This is, after all, what she was tasked with.

Shortly after Susan's rock hit its mark it's echoed by a glowing burst of green light, smashing right into the creature's face. It likely won't have the desired effect but Star's purpose is really just to give it pause long enough to grab Susan (and the fairy, once she's aware of its presence) and run.]

Lawkamercyme! Be gone, please. [She lowers herself between Susan and the creature, clearly intent on acting as a deterrent.] You will find no meal here.

[Annnd then, to Susan, quietly-]

Are you undamaged?

The shadow could be fast, but not as fast as the hound. And soon the shadow was squealing as it was caught between the tight grip of the canine's jaws. By the time Gendry arrived, the creature was gone and the hound's current master was nearly out of breath. He was a knight, but he looked nothing like a knight. His dusty brown tunic was an old looking thing that had been patched and sewn back together a dozen times over. They were a stark contrast to the mudstained blue jeans that he wore with them. Hanging from a belt a sheathed sword.

Gendry Waters didn't look like he belonged anywhere. That was just as well, because he never had before.

"Stupid mutt," he cursed as he knelt down to snatch the leash up from the now stationary dog. It was only when he looked up that he even noticed they weren't alone. "Sorry about him. He didn't hurt you, did he?"
thenameofscreen: Dumbass. (◙ » You don't chew on rave sticks!)

Action; Do you object to Star flying the both of them out of there?

[Welcome to Draubworld, Susan. This ain't your Aslan's Narnia. And it is the magic of unbridled joy I kid you not. faith trust and pixie (fairy??) dust!.

Relief, first, then rapt attention as Starfire looks on the ground for the fallen fairy. Ah, yes, there it is.]

We shall rescue the fairy as well. These creatures are quite fast on land but they do not possess the power of flight. I can fly the three of us to safety if you have no objections.

[Her hands are already starting to glow just like her eyes with fresh new starbolts ready for the attack. All she needs is an affirmative answer.]

Not at her best simply made her plain and ordinary in his viewing. Gendry himself had gone a few days without a bath, simply for the fact he didn't think he needed one and there was too much going on to bother with one. It didn't bother him one bit that his hands were black from ash and dirt or that his cheeks were covered in sweatstained dust. He was surprised to hear her admit the hound had helped her, but he supposed it would explain a few things. He just hadn't expected the shadow creatures to be hunting this far from the castle.

He stood and approached her, but paid little attention to her as he instead stooped down to fetch the fairy and drop the poor creature into an empty pouch. "Bloody fairies. It's a wonder they don't get eaten with how easily they faint." He turned his attention back to her. "You shouldn't be out here. It's dangerous with these little buggers running about. They've a fondness for girls."

I am glad to hear it. Beware of the shadows. [He does not elaborate; not unless she asks.] I am called Aubri. It is a pleasure, Susan.

The leash was long enough that there was room for the hound to cover and sniff her hand. Despite Gendry thinking that to be a bit of rubbish, he didn't put as top to it. Instead, he looked away to check if more of the little beasties about. Largely he was just antsy to get back and wasn't feeling terribly patient about whatever business brought this girl to the castle. After all, he had no notion she was meant to be a shardholder.

"No, not likely. You'd best come with us, unless you fancy meeting another. We'll get you to the gates."
thenameofscreen: As in she eats her mate when she's done. (◙ » Then compared herself to a spider.)

Action; Lovely!

[For just a moment Starfire spares a smile in return, meant to be reassuring too. After that it's back to business. Just as the creature is recovering and starting towards them again Starfire unleashes a battle cry along with a volley of starbolts.

Afterwards she slips one arm around Susan's waist, giving the girl time to hold onto her in whatever way might be most comfortable.]

You should hold on tightly.

He looked back to her and the dog and decided that she was rather pretty, even if she was dressed very strangely for someone traveling alone. It wasn't quite like the fashions from the Station, but it did seem similar and that alone made him curious.

"I'm Gendry," he announced after he'd started walking and leading the way. "Ser Gendry."

He did not often clarify he was a knight because he felt no particular pride in it. But he felt it would perhaps better explain why he was out and about leading a hound around than explaining he was also a blacksmith.
thenameofscreen: (S → I'll bet he does!)

[She might apologize for the abruptness later, but she didn't need to be told twice that Susan wasn't keen on an up close encounter- neither was Star. She'd been battling the things all week and had already required rescuing herself once from one of the larger ones. So- once she feels Susan's grip secure about her middle she lifts off the ground. Susan really need not be worried about being dropped, she carried the added weight as if it were nothing, simply scooping up the fairy in her free hand as they gained speed, before moving higher into the sky again. She slowed down enough then that the flying hopefully wouldn't be too unsettling, making towards the castle.

Their friend didn't seem too happy about being cheated out of it's dinner AND its payback. It'd get over it.]

That was very courageous of you to come to the fairy's aide. [Said with no trivial amount of admiration, since as far as Star could see Susan had been weaponless at the time.]
