Video; Open to Seelie and Unseelie; Scrying Stone event
P: The sun is rising.
[Peeta's voice whispers. It's as if you're seeing through his eyes, as he looks at the girl in his arms, with olive skin and a brown braid (who some might recognize as Katniss). The stars are fading in the pale light of dawn. You feel weak and bitterly freezing. Katniss presses an ear to the metal surface they're on. There's a small, whimpering sound, and the sound of... creatures snarling and tearing.]
P: I think he's closer now. Katniss, can you shoot him?
K: My last arrow's in your tourniquet.
[His eyes look down to his leg, where there is indeed a tourniquet, and lots and lots of blood Peeta unzips his jacket and lets Katniss out of it.]
P: Make it count.
[Katniss takes the arrow out and ties the bandage back on. She dangles over the side of the metal thing they're on, and Peeta holds her legs. You can just barely see big creatures inside the metal thing, tearing away at what's left of a young boy. All you can hear from him is 'please.' And, though there is fear and anger directed at the boy, the kill is a mercy. Peeta pulls Katniss back up.]
P: Did you get him?
[Peeta whispers. The sound of a cannon firing answers him.]
P: Then we won, Katniss.
K: Hurray for us.
[Their voices are hollow. There is no cheer in this victory, after so many have died. A hole opens in the earth, and the creatures run into the hole and disappear. Peeta and Katniss wait, but nothing seems to be happening.]
K: Hey! What's going on?
P: Maybe it's the body. Maybe we have to move away from it.
K: Okay. Think you could make it to the lake?
P: Think I better try.
[They're stiff from the cold, and Peeta is badly injured, you can tell by the way he's walking, by the way you feel heavy and gray, but they somehow make it to the lake not far from the metal thing that now looks like a large Cornucopia. Katniss cups her hands and gives Peeta a drink of water, then gives herself one.
A bird gives a long, low whistle in warning, and some sort of hovercraft appears, a long claw reaching down and scooping up the boy's body. The hovercraft leaves. But still, there is nothing.
Peeta looks down at his wound, which has reopened from the effort to get to the lake.]
P: What are they waiting for?
K: I don't know.
[Katniss goes looking for a stick for Peeta's tourniquet, but she finds her arrow. She bends down to pick it up, and a voice booms around them.]
C: Greetings to the final contestants of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games. The earlier revision has been revoked. Closer examination of the rule book has disclosed that only one winner may be allowed. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.
[There’s a small burst of static and then nothing more. Peeta and Katniss stare at each other as the truth sinks in. They never intended to let both of them live. They must fight to the death.]
P: If you think about it, it's not that surprising.
[Peeta says softly. He makes it to his feet with great effort and a lot of pain. He's moving toward her, his hand on his knife-
Katniss loads her bow, aimed right for his heart. You can feel Peeta's disbelief that Katniss would think he would kill her as he throws the knife in the lake.
I keep wishing I could think of a way to…to show the Capitol they don’t own me. That I’m more than just a piece in their Games.
Katniss drops her weapons and takes a step back, looking ashamed.]
P: No, do it.
[He limps toward her and thrusts the weapons back in her hands.]
K: I can't. I won't.
P: Do it. Before they send those mutts back or something. I don’t want to die like Cato.
K: Then you shoot me. You shoot me and go home and live with it!
[She shoves the weapons in his arms, but he lets them drop.]
P: You know I can't. Fine, I'll go first anyway.
[He rips his bandage loose. Katniss is on her knees, helplessly trying to put the bandage back on.]
K: No, you can't kill yourself.
P: Katniss, it's what I want.
K: You're not leaving me here alone.
[He pulls her to her feet.]
P: Listen. We both know they have to have a victor. It can only be one of us. Please, take it. For me.
[ We both know they have to have a victor...
Something seems to click in Katniss' head, and she fumbles for a pouch on her belt. Peeta's hand immediately clamps on her wrist.]
P: No, I won't let you.
K: Trust me.
[He holds her gaze for a long moment then lets her go. She loosens the top of the pouch and pours a few spoonfuls of berries into his palm. Then she fills her own.]
K: On the count of three?
[Peeta leans down and kisses her once, very gently.]
P: The count of three.
[They stand, their backs pressed together, their empty hands locked tight. ]
P: Hold them out. I want everyone to see.
K & P: One. Two. Three!
[They lift the berries to their mouths. The berries just pass their lips when trumpets blare. The booming voice of earlier is frantic now.]
C: Stop! Stop! Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark! I give you—the tributes of District Twelve!
[They spew out the berries, going over to the lake and washing out their mouths. There's the roar of a crowd in the background. A hovercraft appears, letting down a ladder, which freezes them to it. When it lifts them up, Peeta falls to the floor, the darkness pulling him in, and he goes unconscious.]
[ooc: Forgive me for the script style, but that was easiest for me. P is Peeta, K is Katniss, C is the announcer (Claudius Templesmith.) Feel free to reply in any way, and Peeta will respond a few minutes after.
