[ It's nice to see Alice smile, and Ariadne manages to scoop the cub up
away
from the imp and onto her lap. It gives her wrist a helpful lick. ]
Its mother had been killed -- hunted, probably -- and I found him inside the den, all skinny and cold. I couldn't just
leave
him there.
