My name is Daud.

The day after tomorrow, a party consisting of myself and several others will be riding out and heading for the Station. It's a place of advanced technology, a neutral outpost said to hold a link to the "real" world. [ Whatever that is. ] And if the rumors hold any truth, it might be the only place in this world where you can reliably obtain a pack of cigarettes.

Consider this an invitation to join us on the journey, and an offer of protection to those of you who wish to travel but don't have the means to defend yourselves. You'll still be expected to pull your weight; if you can't fight or hunt, then prepare to do a lot of cooking.

[ There's a short pause. He should wrap up here... but the call of the monologue is strong. ]

The place you stay matters. It digs its claws into you, and you might not realize it until it's too late. Whatever safety and comfort this castle offers don't come freely, nor are they likely to last. When the war heats up, as it undoubtedly will, think hard whether the eye of the storm is where you want to be. It's possible, even likely that leaving the castle won't free you from the battle -- but it's a good first step.

I'm not advocating for a mass exodus. There are many here who are suited for war, and others who stand to gain from reaping the rewards they offer. But whatever choice you make, be sure it is your choice. Don't let uncertainty and fear drive your actions. If you don't want to fight their war, don't.

I'd rather take my chances out there, than be their willing pawn.

(ooc: if you want to hop on board, head on over to our grumpy old plotting post!)
