( believe it or not, using a magical device to communicate with others is a lot easier for Tink to wrap her head around than say, a cell phone. they were so small, and made such funny noises, and who knew what radiowaves were. they didn't sound good for you. no, she'd much rather have a magical locket.

she doesn't seem to falter with it much, either, a simple introduction being enough. )

Hello. I was told I could use this to communicate.

( Tink's accent is a bit of a twang, her voice sweet just like the delicate features of her face, but if you write her off as sweet and innocent, you're asking for trouble. )

My name is Tinker Bell. Does anyone here know of a place called 'Storybrooke'?

( Tink figures she's more or less alone, but it doesn't hurt to ask. )

There is something wrong with my magic. I've heard all sorts of claims as to why that might be, but I wanted to know if anyone else had this experience. And how I could restore it to the way it was. I still can manage a few spells but it's not right, and I want to know why. If I'm meant to help with this war, I'm not going to be as capable.

( that's a bit of bribery, really — give her magic back and she'll be a good little worker bee, honest! or, well, she is not a creature that wants to participate in war, yet she's willing to use her magic for the right reasons. she just needs it back first. she fought tooth and nail to get her wings back, she's not going to sit back and let someone strip them from her again.

still, she can't be wholly selfish. )

The faeries around here seem to be a bit self serving — that's not how faeries work in my world. I'm here to help anyone that needs it, if I can. I understand we are trying to ready ourselves... I can happily teach those that might like to know about survival skills and living off the land, and general first aide. Someone mentioned something about activating my shard, if I could trade one knowledge for the other we'd both leave a little wiser.

[Looking at the pictures the locket can give makes her uneasy. The voice... Strange, still, but she knows it's not just in her head. Other people answer. So, she's getting used to it. Slowly.]

I don't use magic, but I'm a firebender. I can manipulate the element.

I assumed it was the price I paid to come here.

[ Eggsy is relieved to see that Tinker Bell took his advice and is looking into how to get her magic back. Hopefully someone will be able to help her with it, there seem to be enough knowledgeable people around that he's got high hopes.

They've been over most of this already, but there is something he's curious about... ]

Storybrooke? That's where you're from?

[ A fairy from Storybrooke. It's almost a little too ridiculous to be believable, although he doesn't make any hint of that in his tone. ]

[ he's at the heavy oak desk in his room, surrounded by uneasy piles of books with all manners of marks. there was something between his dark nailed fingers, but he's already setting it down.

despite that, he still looks a little distracted. ]

Unfooooortunately—[ he drawls out. ]—You have to earn it back through hard work from our dear monarchs.

[Just...going to brush right over that name, though when he speaks up it's clear he's a little more than curious.]

That's because the fairies here are on the opposite side of things. [Once upon a time, someone told him that the fairies would pry his eyes out. thank you but no thank you.] As for your magic? A lot of people lose their magic and powers when they get here. Not sure what it is about this place, but you can always learn other magic, too. If you want yours back? You've gotta ask the monarchs.

[But onto that last bit of business.] As for activating your shard...I know a couple of people you could try to ask if you're really that interested. What have you heard about it so far?

The fae are notorious tricksters. Why should we believe what you say?

[There is a little tease in her voice, a hint of mystery.]

That seems rather cruel, but someone must pay for the magic that brought us here.

( Tink has heard all sorts of stories and at this point, she just wants a straight answer, and an indication of how to fix it. )

I haven't been able to use my fire magic, either. Perhaps there's something inhibiting firestarting in this place.

( Tink is approaching most as rather no-nonsense, but for the familiar face she does manage something a bit less strict. even a smile, she is capable of things other than tears! )

It's where I was before I ended up here. I'm from a place called the Enchanted Forest, but it's been decades since I've seen it.

Meaning they took it from me.

( she's not surprised, though she does sound annoyed. who gave them the right to dampen her powers? Blue and Blue alone has that sort of power over her. )

Why would they do that? They want my help, it seems poor thinking to not only make it harder for me to lend aide, but also annoy me by taking something that isn't theirs to take.

You can believe what you want. Faeries are rather big on belief. ( Tink thinks it might be a losing battle to try and convince people she's not like the fae populating this place, so she'll just have to do her best to help the ones that are willing to give her a chance. )

I suppose that's the risk you take when you ask for help, but that's true of everything. Fae and human and everything in between.

Other side of things — what does that mean?

( anyway, the information is appreciated, even though it's decisively not what she wants to hear. )

Learning new magic is not a horrible fate, but that doesn't make me any more pleased that these monarchs have tampered with my abilities. ( she sounds annoyed, because she is. she's moved on from sad to pretty ticked. )

Mostly just what the imps told me when I arrived. There was a bit of conversation at the feast, but... not much. I know it's something inside of me, and that I can activate it to make myself stronger.

Erm, well, that's an assumption. They need to use their own powers to give them back, so it's debatable to say that they took them. [ he leans on his folded hands, flickering his dark nails. ]

But who knows? It's possible. Luckily for you there's oodles of other tricks to learn here.

[ As soon as Eggsy catches that smile, he returns it with one of his own. From the looks of the environment behind him, he's out in the woods somewhere, far away from the relative comforts of Caer Scima.

Storybrooke, the Enchanted Forest... they don't sound like real places to him. Then again, Eggsy wouldn't have believed that this world was real if he hadn't been brought here. ]

Decades? Why's it been so long?

Oh. We have imps, but the Seelie have fairies that work with them and have their loyalty. [So. This is kind of ironic all things considered. Sorry, Tink. He's continually going to be the bearer of bad news.]

Trust me, nobody's really happy about it. They've taken a lot of abilities from my friends, too...but they've given us some pretty cool stuff in return. [Or scary, depending on how you look at it.]

That's pretty much the basics of it. Your shard is what ties you to your home world. Tap into your shard's power, make that connection stronger? You can do some really, really cool things. Activating your shard kinda boosts your ability to survive here...makes you stronger, faster, makes your magic work better...but it's also really, really hard. Activating it isn't that hard, but maintaining it and leveling it is.

Wrong how?

( Tink herself seems to be out and about, too, but where exactly isn't clear. somewhere she's flown to. she does make good use of her wings. while she stays the night in her castle accommodations, that's just about the only time she's there.

it's an obvious question, but not the happiest answer. she frowns a bit but faeries aren't much for lying. )

I was trapped in a place called Neverland for a very long time. I had just been rescued recently, along with all the Lost Boys.

Why do you say that's debatable? It's perfectly possible to put limits and dampers on magic in my world. In fact the fact they can give it back makes it seem very far from debatable.

( she isn't blind, though — as much as she wants restoration of her own abilities, there is clearly much to be learned in this place. )

I've noticed that. I've never seen so many kinds of magic at play at once before.

Some things are weakened, some I can no longer manage at all.

( it's not as if she tried every last variety of her magic once it returned to her, yet she is attuned enough to it to know something is amiss. )

Unseelie or Seelie, the fae of this world are not much like my own. ( faeries were supposed to help those that needed it, not demand prices or play tricks. )

I've had someone take my abilities before. I just earned them back, and then I came here. ( it's a concesion, at least a small one, that she might be more emotional than she should be. ) They grant you magic here? I've never heard of anything like that before... Granting magical items, certainly, but not ability.

It's not dangerous at all, to activate your shard? I'm used to magic having a price. ( she'd rather not learn more about shards if it'll end up slowly killing her or something grim like that. )

The dampers part, yes, but here's the thing: there could be other forces at work, not just our monarchs.

[ he waves his hand dismissively again. ]

Our shards, or something else, or we just took a tumble down the wrong rabbit hole. This place is ... [ he's looking for the right word for it. ] ... Heavy.

Of course there could be, but it seems rather convenient they can grant us back what keeps us complacent if we do what they want, don't you say?

( sorry, she's not going to go for it, she's too stubborn. and used to monarchs taking her magic away, actually, she's biased. )

What do you mean by heavy? The war?

On that note—it would be awfully myopic of our monarchs to bring those of half-ability into the throes of war in their time of desperation.

We are Unseelie by nature, not by anyone's choice.

[ there's a pause and he lifts his brows in amusement. ]

But—[ he clucks ]—we're still defiant when there's something to be defiant against.

I agree, it'd be rather foolish to lessen the ability of your own army — so why not help us back to where we can do the most good, instead of requiring a certain amount of service for the favor?

( he's got her on the bit about Unseelie by nature, not by choice. her gut reaction is to correct she didn't choose any of this, so that's very obvious, but now she's curious. )

How do you mean, by nature?

Because they have to use their power to give us back ours. It's a little quid pro quo. If it were you, you'd most likely pick the highest achievers, hm?

[ he leans on his knuckles and watches her through dark lashes. ]

Ah—yes, that. We're Unseelie because of who we are, not because the monarchs picked us. We're deconstructors, fighters of freedom and those who value change. That's what our court does.

If it were me, I would try to help to restore what was lost because it's the right thing to do. Not because I wanted to get something out of it.

( see, she's not much like the faeries here... though, well. maybe she was once. she'll never escape that, even if she likes to think she can be better now. )

The court is what brought us here? ( she seems puzzled by that idea, but not wholly unaccepting, either. )

A couple of people have said the same thing to me...we don't have anything like this where I'm from that's...[Hiro please don't say "fairies aren't real" to someone who's actually a fairy. Just don't.] --like this! We don't have anything like this. If the fae from your world aren't like the Drabwurld, what are they like?

[There's a sympathetic sort of hum though. That always sucks. He's never had magic but coming here after he's just accomplished his status as a superhero and being stripped of his tech and his team was a huge bummer. It's fine, Tink, he's kind of a little overdramatic himself.] Let's put it this way. I've never been able to use magic before I got here and now I have...three or four different skills I can use. [A shrug.] It's something about our shards and something about this world that allows it. The monarchs grant magical items every couple of months if you ask, but learning magic can be done any time by anyone.

With the shard...I wouldn't say it's dangerous, but sometimes it's pretty hard. [He and Loki have had a couple of arguments while the chaos god was helping him activate Hiro's.] The only price I can really think about is that it's really physically and mentally taxing, so I guess it depends how important that kind of thing is to you. The higher levels are where things start to get a little more dangerous, too, from what I've heard. Just because of how your shard's connected to your home world.

But activating it definitely isn't a bad idea.
