That was mostly out of circumstance and accident (more like "Lemina threatened not to teach him anymore" and "Loki carried the robot arm out of Caer Scima") and even now he sort of regrets it. The less people know about what he's dealing with, the less they'll question and just let him move forward and take on responsibilities and make a place for himself. That was the best solution.
