video. can never really keep the wood elf out of the forest
[ Taught by witnessing his father's trial and error with those little devices, Legolas' own attempt is a little less disjointed. It's a clear picture of him from the very beginning with a fairy accompanying him that some may already find familiar as she would return to Legolas' side time and again ever since the welcoming feast days ago. Though unlike the many times before, she does not seem as happy.
His eyebrow is cocked a notch, the corner of his lip curled subtly in an expression of bemusement that is not devoid of amusement, or simple cheerfulness. Something like this will never be a preferred method to simply speaking face to face with another, but he can see its uses and he can see how convenient it is as well: to address many all at once, without needing to gather them all in one place or hunt down each and every one personally. Exactly as his current purpose requires. ]
I am Legolas, son of Thranduil. My father's purpose with you was with regards to the fortress itself. My own is with what we may find beyond it and along the borders.
I am to set out to travel into the Great Greenwood forest to investigate our borders within a day and I am looking for volunteers to accompany me. [ Not out of necessity, for he can travel by himself just as well, if not even more efficiently being an elf, but more so out of a wish for company as well as an attempt to build trust among the many various individuals gathered, all that were to be allies. Foster a sense of cooperation, rather than alienate himself. ] Such that are capable of travelling swift and light, riding hard and handling a weapon efficiently.
It is a short notice, but preparations are all too easy thanks to our hosts.
[ He offers a smile, dark lashes lowered over bright eyes, such a contrast to the pale gold of the hair framing his face. ]
If you wish to ride with me, you may come in contact with me by the means of the lockets and I will let you know of the time and the place.
[ That is all as far as parting words go, the feed is closed with a snap of the locket. ]

( Wow sorry where are her manners? Lydia smiles. )
I'd like to go, actually. But when you say... Riding. Do you mean horses? And I'm not that great with weapons. Though, I'm a quick study, and I've read a lot about archery.
text;
My name is Hephaestion. I'd like to accompany you, if you'll have me.
Video;
Hey, Legolas. I'm Garth. I've already met your father.
[He readjusted the locket, to give the elf a more pleasing view of his face and one that looked decidedly less, um, skeletal.]
I'm no stranger to travelling efficiently and with little to no comforts. I can ride a horse, but do not have one of my own. I can handle a gun and a knife, and have knowledge of the creatures of Drabwurld. [A side effect of his career, rather than knowledge gained because he sought it out.]
If you want me to join your party, just let me know. Until then..
[He tipped his head forward, nodded, and clicked the locket closed, stopping the transmission.]
video。
at the very least, he's got it sitting on the table in front of him and he's not looking for how people are inside of it.
anyhow, this sort of mission captures his interest. he's not real into falling from one war to another, but he's a soldier and duty calls. it's gotta be better out traveling and knowing the lay of the land rather than sitting around feeling sorry for himself (he never did wear pity, and refuses to do it now).
all that aside, do pardon the way he stares (he is trying not to, but...). before today he woulda thought fairies didn't exist, but now... well. it doesn't matter. he can think about it later. ]
Dunno about light, pal, but all that other stuff I can handle. Sounds like somethin' I'd much rather be doin' anyway.
video;
I have spoken to Thranduil of your journey, I will be most curious as to what you will uncover!
video
Well met, Legolas. My name is Danielle...daughter of Auguste. I would see these new lands myself, should there be room for another sword.
video.
[besides the fact that he personally wouldn't recommend shadow travel as an option to anyone with a weak stomach, jason's pretty sure it'd be rude to just volunteer nico's services without his permission. not to mention that nico doesn't exactly like having people he knows tag along, let alone strangers. either way, directly teaming up with anyone else probably isn't going to happen.
however, he did volunteer to handle the social aspect of things, and finding allies is definitely a part of that.]
Our goal is still pretty much the same, though, so it couldn't hurt to coordinate and share information.
no subject
Ah, no, it has not happened before for us to be confused for brothers, you are first to mention it and I should say it is quite a baffling observation to me. Elves do not age beyond the age of majority which should answer your wonder about the way we look.
[ The lack of manners bothers him none and he regards her carefully with kind eyes. ]
Yes, I do mean riding on horseback. But perhaps this is not a good moment to initiate you into traveling as will be required, notice too short for me to teach you.
no subject
Well met. I should hope you are aware of the hardships to come? This land is an unknown,
and I cannot test each and every volunteer, so I put my trust in you all.
If so, we shall set out tomorrow before the sunrise, I will see you at the stables.
no subject
Well met, Garth. Your knowledge would most certainly be of use and put my mind a little more at ease. Please join and share what knowledge and skill you possess and are willing to offer, tomorrow before sunrise at the stables. Do not concern yourself with a lack of a steed, it will be taken care of.
[ But this doesn't end here, however, because his curiosity gets the better of him and it shows in the look he gives the image in his locket and in the tone of his voice, ever so subtly inquiring. ]
I must ask, however, for the sake of sating my own curiosity: is this world your home if you know its creatures?
Video
[ An eternity spent in uncertainty. He cannot bear it. ]
...time wasted. The sooner we ride out and overthrow our enemy, the sooner we can — gah!
[ His head jerks offscreen, followed by a loud metallic clatter (as the locket hits the ground) and then... tinkling, high-pitched laughter.
Still offscreen: ]
Let go!

Light only in that we will not be taking too many supplies as to not slow us down. [ Though given how many Men will be accompanying him, Legolas knows now that it will not be as light a travel as elves usually prefer. ] We shall meet before sunrise tomorrow, at the stables. It should be nothing more but reconnaissance, but we also need to be ready for anything; I know not what to expect beyond Caer Glaem.
[ He pauses, finally gives a polite smile with a slight incline of his head. ]
May I have your name?
video.
I would be more than happy to volunteer. Exploring, trampling through wilderness and killing things? [ Her shoulder lifts, absently, even as her smile widens. ] It sounds like an average Tuesday to me.
no subject
well. no need to remember that right now.
as for the horse, well. he'll deal with that as it comes. he's seen 'em before, but there's been no real use for 'em in brooklyn. ] Best to expect the worst or nothin'. At least that way you won't be surprised when somethin' big happens.
[ then, he straightens slightly, nearly jamming his thumb into his chest. ]
—sorry. James Barnes. Everyone just calls me Bucky.

I'll be there. [A response to meeting the elf and his group at the stables.]
Oh, actually I'm not from Drabwurld. I was brought here by the fairies.
[He would explain, as quickly as he could so as to not drag out the video, how he could posses such knowledge.]
In the world where I'm from, I was a hunter of, well, supernatural creatures. I studied them, how to track them, catch them, and kill them if it was necessary. I even studied creatures that I hadn't encountered in my life, those that were supposedly myth based.
[A little long winded, but, fingers crossed, Legolas wouldn't mind the rambling.]
Not long after I was brought here, I stumbled upon the library. I found there, many scrolls detailing the creatures of this land. I didn't have the chance to look at them all, but the ones I did, were all creatures that I had previous knowledge on. Some, I had personal experience with and others I had studied.
[Garth stopped to take a breath, hoping that was sufficiently explanatory, and waited for any further questions from the elf.]
I'm heading out as well with the same purpose in mind. What areas are you hoping to explore? My...team can search a different place. [A slight pause before offering:] We can reach the furthest areas the fastest.

Upon my return, I shall inform you so you may be present when I report on all I find out.

There is yet room, indeed, for a sword skilled and experienced in battle. Well met, Danielle, you are welcome to join us tomorrow before sunrise at the stables. As I am making the preparations, shall you need anything feel free to let me know.
no subject
Though he can't help but feel a little concerned, the boy speaking? Looks quite young, though in truth... all children of Men are. ]
Wise words, if you intend to set out with the same goal in mind. We ought to investigate in different directions as to cover more ground all at once. [ That concern, however: ] I see your certainty and conviction, but you are young, will you be all right?
[ Truly, he means well. ]
no subject
Someone, from the looks of things, is up to mischief most likely. He speaks to an image of the room, but as he can hear the noises he... assumes so does the person on the other side? Is this how those things work? He isn't certain, but it's worth a try in any case. ]
Are you well? [ First things first. ] Do you need help?
no subject
Speak of something like an affinity for someone from the first conversation. ]
Then our reconnaissance may wind up a boring excursion for you, as I wish not have to do much of the last. [ Tone light and teasing. ] But if you wish to risk boredom, then meet me tomorrow before the sunrise at the stables.
no subject
I will risk it - it's far better than wandering around here swinging my sword at nothing. [ She tilts her head before she grins. He's so charming, she approves. Much better than the grouchy elf that she knows and loves. ] Marian Hawke, at your service.
no subject
We'll be fine. We start young, where we come from, and I've been training and fighting all my life.

The plan is to head south-west into the Great Greenwood forest to reach as far as the river and beyond if time will allow to go on and the river allows passage. [ He has his reasons for picking that direction, he had shared them with his father who showed his support. It's not something he thinks to share right now. ] The other direction that interests me is the road through the mountains into Cothromach. Perhaps you could investigate the roads through the forest and mountains north of Caer Glaem? They lay directly on the way from Caer Scima, though the map does not show the ability to pass through them.
[ He tilts his head briefly, curiously looking at the image in the locket: we can reach the furthest areas the fastest. The only thing that comes to mind is flight, in this case. ]
I am curious about the nature of your travel, if I may ask, flight is the only way that comes to my mind...

Then I shall come once you return!

I am a knight and a swordsman.
[ He's going on as if nothing happened, except his cheeks are bright red and he is failing to keep the fury out of his voice. The ongoing soft giggling in the background is really not helping. ]
My name is Kevin Regnard, and I would — stop it!
[ This last is directed at his tormentors, who should now be visible onscreen: four fairies, who have grabbed hold of his long, white ponytail and given it another good yank. ]
no subject
That sounds reasonable. It's possible we could find a path for people to cross into the adjacent forest without needing a pair of wings.
[He hesitates. After thinking about it for a moment, Nico decides that it might be alright to tell a little about what he can do, and what he is.]
I was born with an ability called shadow travel. I can pass through one shadow and appear in the shadow of another location. The downside is that the farther away I want to go, and the more people I have to bring with me, the more of an energy drain it puts on my body. For long distance, it's better if I do staggered trips and rest for at least an hour after.

Should I call you brother from now on if it pleases you so to hear this, ada?
no subject
I only wish to make sure all are aware.

I think I should do better to cleave to what scant respect and wisdom I am naturally afforded as your father, Lasdithen.
no subject
Fascinating that not all the worlds are as separate as mine seems to be from Drabwurld. Thank you, your company will be most valuable.
no subject
[ Since everyone calls him that! Official the elves can be, but here is an oddball willing to be more familiar and direct with all. ]
Surprise is the last thing we need on what should be a reconnaissance. We will take what weapons we need and provisions for a week of travel, expecting battle and a forest barren of game and fruit. Unlikely as it may be, given how it bears the name of the Great Greenwood.

You're welcome. I will meet you and your party at the stables.
[He closed the locket, excited, and headed towards his room to pack his things. He wondered if one of the fairies could help him get some of the supplies he would need for the trip.]

Well. Regardless of your relation to him... I'm Lydia. Gîl síla erin lû e-govaded vín. ( Her Sindarin, as taught to her by Thranduil in their first conversation, isn't fluent. But it's a sparkling mirror image of the way it's supposed to sound coming from those born to speak it. Lydia has been practicing. )
Oh, I can ride. I just can't fight. I'm not without my assets, I promise. I can hear things no one else can. I'm kind of like an alarm system for danger, now that I think about it.

[ anything other than bucky feels strange. since this isn't the army and this guy isn't a superior, he'd rather be on more... friendly terms. it's just easier, better.
anyway. he shrugs, moving on. legolas can call him anything he wants. ]
Reconnaissance ain't always easy, pal. Especially in a place like this with all the... [ ... ] y'know... [ he gestures as if that totally answers everything. ]
