Fourth Bloom ❀ Video [Seelie Locked] backdated to the 17th

[Flora does her best to be impeccable, and today is no different, but there's a noticeable tiredness around her eyes. Sleep is for...the insanely lucky at this point, honestly.

Still, she dips her head and smiles politely in greeting, and doesn't falter.]

Hello, there. My name is Flora. I won't repeat what you all already know, but I'll say this. I am working on a few defensive projects for Caer Glaem. There are potion labs around the castle, if you didn't already know, and I'm moving between four of them: two of the communal ones, the designated one for the...magical research group--[She pauses there because she realises that's what their name is until they figure out a better one. And, yeah, they really need to.], and my personal one. I have a greenhouse attached to that one too, and I might be there, probably growing ingredients, but I'm just a locket call away. As an aside, if you need any plants for your own purposes, please let me know.

If you don't have any experience with potionology, that's perfectly fine. If you can use a mortar and pestle, mix things, and follow some instructions, you'd be a great help and I've actually got it all laid out. One of the communal labs I'm using is best for that. Nothing dangerous is happening there; it's been cleared of active energy sources, and the ingredients are perfectly mundane. So, it's sort of like doing prep work for cooking, really. If potions and magic aren't unfamiliar to you, one of the other ones might be better suited.

[Something catches her attention off the locket and she turns to the side, blinking before her eyes widen in alarm and she reaches a hand out.]

Colin, wait! Those mandrake leaves are--

[She's cut off when something goes boom. Her hair blows in the force of the blast, and she ducks her head a little before covering her eyes with a hand, not out of protection, but because she's looking to be very done. A stoppered flask whips by a moment later, but Flora's free hand instinctively darts out to catch it before it can go past her, while her face is still hidden.

There might also be what sounds very suspiciously like goats bleating in the background.]

...not ready yet, and're going to cause a negative reaction when added at this stage.

[One of the bleats in the background sounds sadly apologetic.]

It's fine, Colin, I promise. I'll see to you in a moment.

[She doesn't even sound annoyed, just weary and surprisingly patient at that, because what can you do. Flora drops her hand, stands straighter, and faces her floating locket again. Oh. Uh, people saw that, didn't they. She's embarrassed, but only slightly so. She doesn't have time or energy to spare for that, there's work to be done.]

That didn't happen in the one I said was safe, if anyone's wondering. So we'll be here if you'd like to help. If you have any requests, I'll do my best to fill those, too.

Lastly, if you have some experience with wards of any kind, I'd like to speak with you, please.

[Remus's curiosity is peaked. Although he pauses and adds, as an afterthought, because he's a proper gentleman and it's the right thing to do.]

[Oh someone is asking for seconds. He hastily pushes the locket aside to tend to them before coming back, smiling.]

Oh but I'll be home soon if you need anything.

I'd love to help, if you could teach me. I only sort of know the basics, and I've been trying to read up on wards but I'm not good enough yet--I'm trying, though!

And, um. Is the...Colin going to be okay?

Sounds like a chemistry kit I would have gone mad for as a kid. Except magic so that would have made it even better.

[She laughs a little. It's strange to connect this with something so light hearted but it's a little amusing as well. Even if no one else is in on the joke.]

Count me interested in learning. Though I can't promise I've progressed past my skills at seven years old when it comes to it.

I think Master Fiarin forgot to mention something about mandrake if something like that is the reaction.

[She spends a moment more looking a little shocked and then shakes her head.]

I've been hard at work on my own mixes--wound wash and liniments, mostly--and if there is a place where I might find more ingredients, that would be truly helpful.

Is a greenhouse some magic that lets you grow plants even out of season?

[It is an honest question, because while very simplistic methods do exist for growing plants out of season in her world, they're rare.]

[In spite of her tiredness, she manages a brighter smile for Dorian. She does enjoy his company, after all.]

Oh, if you'd like! I wouldn't say no to help, and I want to see how you're doing.

I will. Safety is my number one priority. Things can just get a little...lively sometimes, in spite of that.

[He still isn't going to stop worrying but he sighs and smiles.]

Flora, you work so hard. It's amazing... Oh, I'm almost at the Hidden Falls! We're all doing okay. It's been a little rough but it's not that bad after all. [It's hard to tell if he means it or if he's being optimistic.] I wanted to help, too, so...

[What a question, but she's not obtuse; she knows he means what's just happened, bt it takes her a moment to get there.] Hmm? Oh yes, very fine. It's a minor mishap. Nothing I or anyone can't fix easily enough, thank goodness.

[She smiles lightly.]

And I do say. I know of a few, but they're not my area of expertise.

Yes, we're actually making de-spelling potions among everything else, and it's not a terribly high level shapechange. He'll be fine. [She breathes out as she says it, partly for herself as well. This is an easily solved problem, she needn't stress over it. So, she can get back to the matter at hand.]

Would you mind telling me what, specifically, of the basics, so I don't assume too little or too much?

Oh, I'm just doing what I can. The same as you, right? But what're you doing, escorting people?

[She remembers the invitation for sanctuary that Maleficent put out.]

[Remus wonders who Colin is, and how much experience he has with magics, and whether he's her student or what sort of relation they have with each other, but it's awfully forward to ask such a thing so he supposes he should just let it go.] Well. I'm glad that you've got it all under control, then.

What sort of ward are you interested in, if I might ask? There's quite the list.

[He's embarrassed but proud.] It's not a lot of people but I am. The owner of the Barrel said he trusted me to do it. He seems so nice and strong, so I definitely have to do this right. It's been a little hard but everyone is okay.

[He smiles] Certainly. Oh, and—perhaps you could give me some advice on my own wardmaking? I've been practicing.

Magic does tend to do that. [Except when it doesn't, but we're thinking positively, here.]

But it's fine, everyone starts somewhere. Unfortunately, I might not be able to give instruction as thorough as I'd like, but it would still be my privilege to help you get started.

It's not just the mandrake, but the combination of everything else, too. But, you can consider it a learning experience, if you like. [She scratches her cheek sheepishly.]

But you're half right: greenhouses let you go plants out of season, but they're not magic. Well, inherently, anyway. They're basically buildings or structures made of glass, so sunlight can come in. You can apply magic to them, though.

Oh, have you? [She sounds pleasantly surprised! Learning is great!! She's so busy, but she'll set aside some time for him, because she knows why he'd want the help and it's sort of something that really can't hurt from having more attention paid to its care.]

Glass? The monarchs here must be very, very wealthy to afford to make a whole building out of glass! And how does it not break; isn't glass delicate?

But that would allow light in, and keep out a little bit of the cold in the winter. Is there a way to set up a hearth to make it even warmer? Some plants, I know, only grow best in the heat of summer.

[She's very curious about this. When, and she has to think of it as when, she goes home, perhaps she can bring this with her. With the right environment, perhaps some of the rarer plants can be grown year round, or grown in garden at all.]

[ She laughs at that--more Flora's casualness than her words. She's completely used to this, it shows, and it's so strange Kelsi can't really help but giggle. ]

I can make healing poultices, you know--to stop bleeding and make sure everything's not infected. Let's see... I've also learned which stuff gets rid of a fever if you put it in tea. Does that count?

[ She hopes it does, because she's feeling a little under-educated in comparison to Flora. That's why she can learn, right? ]

Every little bit helps, you know? Especially when lives are on the line. A little hard? Did something happen? [SHE IS CONCERNED.

But yes, Lord El-Melloi II is great people.]

Dare I ask how some of your sessions have gone? [Not that she'd really dispute that in some cases. Some. Stella blew up the whole lab once, and got held back a year, so you know, there's a sliding scale here.]

...That was definitely Colin turning into a goat. But I've thought about that vegetable lamb a lot since you've mentioned it and it's really cute. I might have to do something about that, sometime.

So am I. The last thing I need right now is a bigger mess, I can tell you that much. [She exhales gently, not quite a sigh.] As for wards, anything defensive or protective, to start.

It is, but you can strengthen it with magic, but glass won't break until it's broken.

[i.e. there's nothing to worry about unless people start chucking rocks. ...or if there are huge explosions, but details.]

You could set up a hearth, but a lot of modern greenhouses have something called climate control. You can adjust the environment either with magic or technology so it emulates any number of climate conditions. Temperature, humidity, even adjusting for light.

Well, nobody actually died, so I consider that to be as good as anything, really.

Well, it was worth asking... and really, I heartily recommend it when you have the time. If nothing else, it would be a lovely curiosity.

Ah, I see! I've never seen glass before, myself, only heard of nobles using it in their homes.

[She leans forward radiating interest and sincerity.]

I'm not sure of what technology actually means, but that sounds so wonderful. Could this magic be learned? I've a plant that's very, very rare and valuable in my home, and used to cure so many ailments. I was able to look at some books in the library and I think I've preserved it properly, just-- I'm not even certain there could be a way to start new plants, but if there is, it is very particular about where it grows.

Still, if it could be quickened, and new plants started, I'm certain it will be a great help to the people here, both born and brought, especially if the winter lung sickness can get as awful here as it does at home.

Not really... It's just that some of them are scared of me, like I'll hurt them. I don't like it at all.

[Too many bad memories of being called a monster, a devil, a thing, by people who feared him so much.]

I'm sorry, Emil. It's not a good feeling, but they'll hopefully come around in time.

Some of them are coming around! So I'm happy for that. It's just... I wish I could change everyone's minds. Shardbearers aren't bad people. I know we're making things harder on them but it's so complicated...

Ah. [He supposes he could have assumed as much, but well. Never assume!]

I suppose the question that would then follow is what you're looking to defend or protect? A person, a structure? There are different spells I can think of to use depending, and some aren't appropriate across the board.

[Forgive him if he sounds professorly here, he was a teacher, and it's hard to give up sometimes.]
