He was even more exhausted than she was, though he did not show it. His body ached from defeat, but it was the armor that was the worst of it. Knights were mounted for good reason, because this much armor was too heavy for marching in. The sword he could sheath at his side, but the shield was too cumbersome to strap to his back when his armor was on, so he was forced to carry the metal shield in his left arm at all times. He had at least had the foresight to put a long leather strap on the helmet, so it could fall back and hang along his back. Otherwise his head would be blazing with heat.
But it was his experiences on a road like this one through the Riverlands that compelled him to want to keep moving. He'd been a fool when he traveled with Arya, but he'd grown wiser in that time. He knew that they could trust no one, befriend no one, and that it was only in each other they could rely. And though he knew it meant he should greet her kinder, he could not yet manage it.
"Of course I am," he answered curtly. "We need better distance before night comes."
They hadn't slept since they had been inadvertently trapped in Unseelie lands last night. Or rather, he hadn't. He'd taken a cautious guard over night when they finally did stop their flight from danger and propped up in a tree coated in armor, he'd only slipped in and out of sleep a few times. Never long enough to truly sleep, because Nymeria would always seem to wake him.
