[ jojen's a name he's familiar with — isn't he sort of talking to the dude as he goes back and forth between all his conversations? must be one of the ones he's talking about. good to know. ]

Maybe one day you can give me the juicy details. I'm still trying to process you being a tree, dude.

[ you were a tree, bran. and your dad didn't make you one. this is very confusing for luke, considering he really does not like trees. ]

Well, buddy, it's real life.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to be the moon. I doubt Selene — or Artemis, really — would really like that. Kind of her thing.

The moon fell from the sky. The Seelie side lost a lot of power because of it. I guess we're kind of like the waves of the ocean — we're guided by the moon, or ruled over by her. The Unseelies ... They gained a lot of stamina. They were twice as powerful. Guess, maybe, they get their energy from the moon not being in place. I don't know the science.

High-Queen Solais was ill because of the moon leaping from the sky. She's the fairest one of them all — needed a good kiss to wake her up.

Anyway, so, the moon's kind of sentient. It was turning into all these weird animals and shapes — and it just flew around the Drabwurld. From the moment our High-King let us know we were in trouble, I started tracking the thing. It's a little hard when you take the moon being trapped in the sky for granted, you know. But the moon was free for a long time. The Unseelie were strong — imagine the strongest thing you know in your world being taken on by an ant. The ant's bite may sting, but the ant's still crushed beneath its foot at the end of the day.

I tracked it to a cave. Went through the tunnels, chasing this rooster. It got stuck in a corner, right near a bit of a dip in the cave. If I didn't stop running, I'd be at the bottom of the cliff — and trust me, kid, that's never fun. With a lot of help from my friends, I was able to get it. Sticky fingers kind of work in your favor sometimes, even though it's gotten me into a lot of trouble in the past.

It felt like an animal. Heavy. Warm. Cold, too. It woke High-Queen Solais up. Gave her a true love's kiss — guess her husband just doesn't do it for her — and it's now in the sky.

The moral of the story is: The moon's still a cold hard rock.

[ and luke had begun to relearn the meaning of family. instead of thinking about artemis, every time he looks at the moon he thinks of those people who quell his anger and make him want to live. ]
