[Grainne appears on the locket, looking fairly put together, but here and there hints she is actually a little flustered.]

I... I am not sure how to ask a complete stranger, but perhaps this will do in lieu of an introduction...

My name is Grainne for those of you whom I have not yet had the fortune to encounter. I hail from a land called Eire. My reason for calling is this; I wish to learn the ways of a warrior.

[She pauses, her eyes off the locket for a moment, and takes a breath.]

I... I am looking for a teacher. I am not very suited to physical prowess and I know practically nothing about fighting, but it has become a truth for me that some offensive skill in this world is better than nothing at all.

I also wish to extend my magical abilities. I have minor skill in curses and potions already, but those things are not as suitable for defending or attacking.

If there is interest, I can make arrangements to trade for such training, if you wish.

[With a sigh and a look of relief, she closes her locket. It's done, now all she needs do is see what happens.]

[OOC: When Grainne says she's not suited, it actually means she is pretty darned terrible at it. She will likely frustrate any weapons teacher she has and probably stab them by accident, JUST WARNING YOU.]

Do you only have the concept of "warrior" in mind, or are you looking to learn something specific?

A warrior is supposed to know the use of several different weapons and to use the terrain to his advantage. I would not turn away knowledge or skill offered.

[She is giving the biggest skeptical look ever, Archer.]

What is a "special agent"?

The single guy called on to do special things like spying, assassination, intense combat. That kind of thing.

[Grainne's expression clears somewhat. Spying? Assassination? That is not exactly the kind of thing she's looking for. After having such a difficult time just on that one quest she was given...]

Do you know how to wield a sword or spear?

I can use pretty much any weapon. Comes with the job.

[Said so casually like he's super duper awesome.]

Want a first hint? Start with a spear. Swords suck until you can control your hands. [But wow, legit advice.]

[That doesn't mean she's convinced yet. But perhaps she ought to give him the benefit of the doubt, for now.}

Oh! Meridia! It has been a while since I have heard word of you. I trust you are well? And shame, you know better than that. It's Grainne.

[Grainne grins brightly at the girl, meaning no harm with the playful chiding.]

That would be a great favor to me. You spoke of archery before, it would be a fine thing to learn.

[A sneaky expression appears and makes her look a bit devious under all that good cheer.]

Then I would know something even the Lancer does not.

Aye, since Samhain I'd wager. I've been well, Lady Grainne, despite last month.

[She can't help teasing a little, though she does laugh at the chiding, adjusting her grip on Angus' reins while she speaks.]

I'm a little busy with th' hunt right now, but I'll be free later.

[The expression gets Grainne a snigger.]

Lookin' tae surprise someone?

All too true, Lady Meridia. And far too long in my opinion. I am glad to hear that. I heard many people had a bad month of it for the bones.

[Meridia shouldn't encourage her, though, for she just looked ever more sneaky.]

Aye, and right in the buttocks if he does not come home once in a while. He has been out hunting the Hart himself and not even a locket to tell me he is all right since he left. "Might not be able to," does the Hart have ears that good, I wonder.

I had some trouble myself, but friends came tae my aide. I've been travelin' an' practicin' tae ensure I don't need help again.

[Oh but she will, if the grin crossing her face is any indication.]

Ah, well, he'd probably expect a dagger tae th' thigh, wouldn't he?

Ah, then we are in the same mindset. Friends are precious treasures when you have them, they strengthen us when together.

[A brief shadow crosses her face. Since leaving Tara, the only real friend she has had has been Diarmuid... but it is brief and then she is back to her normal self.]

Likely he would. Long distance would come as a surprise. He's no wish for a new scar, I imagine.

Aye. I never had friends before I came here, only Angus. I won't make th' same mistake again.

[He whickers when he hears his name, causing Merida to lean down and brush her hand along his neck, missing the look on Grainne's face before she glances back to the locket.]

Long distance would surprise even a warrior like him. I really ought tae set up an archery range when I get back tae th' Chateau. You're about th' third person I've promised lessons tae.

And before you know it, you will hold whole training sessions for all of the Drabwurld. [Grainne's laugh is light.] Oft a teacher finds they learn as much teaching as they did being taught, so the saying goes.

I would help. Even a small girl without much strength can learn how to do a lot of damage.

Well, I probably wouldn't go that far. I've never taught anyone before, so I think takin' it slow an' steady would do for a while, aye?

[Merida giggles a bit herself.]

I think most of my dad's scars come from teachin' me when I was a wee lass. I started out downright terrible believe it or not.

True, and lots of practice is the key to things like that.

[Grainne sobers a little as she puts on a rather deadpan expression.]

Well, that would have taught him how to dodge, wouldn't it?

Ah, that gives me hope. It's a good motto to have.

[Grainne looks interested. Becoming a shield maiden had always seemed a daunting pursuit, but if she didn't need to be sturdy, that made everything possible.]

What do you offer?

Aye. There's only one of me so I think classes might be limited.

[She rubs her finger under her nose with another laugh.]

Ah, that explains how he managed tae fight off Mor'du.

No one has to be defenseless, no matter who they are.

[ she almost smiles ]

I can teach you as I've taught others with your experience before. I can show you how to use a knife, how to look for openings in your opponents and how to inflict as much pain as possible. Where to hit in places that require less force to cause as much damage as someone bigger. You don't need to be strong to jam your thumb into a man's eyeball.

...ah. I really had been meaning to get back to you on the magic front, but with untold things demanding my attention, I keep failing to say something about it.

Well, I'm sure I can arrange some time the next time we're both in Caer Glaem, but I'm unfortunately busy with the hunt at the moment...

How graceful are you--no. How dedicated can you be?
