As you say. It must be so.

[ sansa does not show her kindness well -- certainly -- but so much of that inability rests upon the hollowing degrading experience forged in the red keep. it is hard to be kind to anyone when she still fears the gauntlet on her cheek. and so she often finds it easier to play-act what another person expects her to be. if saralegui claims she is cruel she will not fight it. let him think so.

it does not matter what he believes -- but every new self-righteous line from his locket sets a relief in her bones that she refused even a sham union with a young man who could speak so cruelly. who was he to measure the remorse in her heart! the nightmares haunting her sleep! the deep coiling sorrow she sensed when she discussed alyosha with her minister. ]
