She'd told Hawke, of course, to let the Circle handle this one. The First Enchanter. They should not be here. But Hawke is adamant, she wants to help, Maker damn her, she wants to solve every problem in Kirkwall on her own so she of course doesn't listen. Aveline has already made her reservations known. The Fade was no place for the guard captain - what good is she in a land of dreams and magic? Give her a sword, and a thug to take down, something real

But she's asked her friend for help many times since taking up captaincy, so when she insists that Aveline come, she doesn't refuse. Besides, this way she can watch out for her.

It is exactly as Aveline predicted. There are demons, attempting to make deals for poor Feynriel (would this have still happened if they had gone to the circle? If they had turned him into the Templars like his mother wanted?)... but it's Fenris turning against them at the words of the pride demon that surprises her the most.

"What would your noble knight do to reclaim what she's lost?"

Clearly... that was not to be the worst though, not when it's Wesley's face looking back at her, still the grey of the taint, the same as he had the day she'd put the dagger in him. It had spared him a slow, painful death but there is barely a day that passes where it didn't seem cruel, and for every day she thinks she has come to peace with it, there are others where she wonders if she could not have found another way... seeing him now. She's not aware of taking those steps towards him.

"You spent your entire life trying to be the Chevalier your father wanted. The one thing you chose for yourself, and the darkspawn took him."  The Fade was a land of dreams, but the ache within her as she looks at her deceased husband, and hears his voice is real. It tells her otherwise.

"Wesley?"

"Come back to me, love. Everything went wrong when we met this family of apostates. Kill her, and everything we lost will be restored."

Aveline doesn't move. The seed has been planted, could this mean that she could fix her past mistake and save her husband? There is nothing she regrets more than his death.

"This is a demon in Wesley's skin. How could you fall for this?" Hawke's voice. How could she not take what is being offered?

"It's not the form she wants. It's redemption."

"I failed you, Wesley. I failed myself. If that moment could be changed..." Aveline would give anything to change it, yes. If this was the cost, then so be it. She finally tears her gaze from Wesley's face and reaches for her weapon, and the shield that she'd carried since that day outside of Lothering and turns to face Hawke.

She doesn't give it a second thought, not as she lunges at her.

[ It hadn't taken Aveline long to see it, after long minutes of trying to remove it, something anything - one of her memories that had been taken and twisted, now up for all to see. She swears at the locket, throws the thing across her room once before picking it up... They had no right to her memories. None. ]

[ At least she's only semi asking about it? ]

Then... uh, what was it? I mean, I understand it's a memory, but when it was happening...
