As of now, I will not be permitting visitors to the orphanage, with the exception of Mr. Jack Frost, until further notice. The children in my care do not need to hear about the burdens of war efforts; they are blissfully unaware of what events are unfolding. They have lost loved ones, one even losing an arm, so please understand that they are still recovering from the last battle in Caer Scima and will be for a while.

As well as that, I am much more than their matron and teacher now. In accordance to Dorchadan law, their kinship will be established through me, but not through my name of "Liddell", through the father-name that I have given them, "du Lac". We may not return to Dorchadas for quite some time, but they will bear that name, regardless.

Let us not forget that there are many children like them, however, who are not as fortunate. I would renew my efforts to continue my work, but I will not leave their side nor my homestead. Their minds must be protected at all costs.

Donations mostly, and through the seamstress work that I do.

I do not know; it is the only orphanage in Aghmor and by an Unseelie such as myself.

[Lumina has not been having a good few days, by any stretch. So this does not help. She's been sleeping there fairly often!]

[ Alice will not admit to being upset -- she tries not to touch the subject. She's sure now Lumina has noticed she's stopped talking, almost, altogether. The children have noticed; Liam and Slania have kept closer to her than usual. It's not just the war, it's something much more. ]

[Azula has to stop herself from laughing at the plea. It reminds her of the foolishness of the Dai Li, leaving the people within the upper walls entirely unaware of the war going on. Of the danger that they might be in.

[ zuko doesn't think to private this. he doesn't believe he needs to. all he can see is azula terrorising alice, who is his friend. this is nothing like bai sing se, nothing like the dai li — some people weren't born into war like they were. ]

[ How upset is she? She's upset enough; this comes at the worst time imaginable. She almost sends "restrain your friend before I do", but she stops herself. Thank goodness for the text option. ]

[ even without her choosing to request he somehow restrain azula, he's already trying. it's impossible, though; azula's her own person, and she's a fire that he sometimes can't put out. what he can do, though, is try and give her another target — himself. ]

[ it's fortunate this is text, though. alice can forgo all of zuko's awkward pauses in explaining his relation to her. still, he pauses as he types. ]

[ Lizzie was never a problematic sister -- on the contrary, it was Alice who was the problem child out of the sisters. After another pause and Alice shaking with anger, she decides to hold back on her threat.

Because she would make good on it. It wouldn't be fair for her to insult his sister in front of him. ]

I see. Please inform her then not to make light of their situation. We lost someone important to us, the children are upset enough.

[ it's always like zuko to take responsibility for things that aren't truly his fault. ]

[ albeit, a little less sulky and negative and hopeless. but what he doesn't say is firebender. he may not private the conversation, but he doesn't so much as state her fear aloud for everyone to see. ]

[ Because there's a work around that fear of fire, but she doesn't want to say it out loud. As tempting as it is to sink into that numbness, Alice won't. ]

[So there. Though it really is a just like a little sister. One can almost hear the petulant child in her tone.]

[ it's been a long, long time since zuko has ever stepped properly back into the shoes of being an older brother. they feel comfortable, if a little tight. it's easy to do so, what with her resuming the role as the childish little sister trying to pick on others who've done nothing to her. ]

To which what do you imply? The visitors?

The children.

I wouldn't dare use a child for anything.

Given that I, myself, almost became a commodity and goods to a depraved individual, alongside the children I cared for in my world, I make damn certain that will never happen to them and the children I want to protect.

And I've killed plenty of men who would use children, here and in my own world.

Then you're doing nothing but leaving them helpless.

How? By offering them something other than war and despair? By teaching them to read and write in a world that's mostly illiterate?

Children don't need to learn weaponry; I protect them.

Because someone will use them, eventually. And because their world is a war, and you've decided they don't need to know.

When they are of age, they can learn. They're too young now, their minds are too young. They do not deserve to have their minds twisted and corrupted by adults.

They don't deserve to have someone else decide they aren't strong enough to survive.

Now you're just twisting my words. And they do not need adults pushing them into a cycle that will continue to repeat itself.

You have decided they aren't strong enough. Not even strong enough to know what's happening.

They've lost family in the last battle. One lost an arm in addition to losing her family. They're aware of what is happening beyond Aghmor, just as much as any child would.

Dislike that all you want, they deserve much more than pain and suffering that we, adults, are already accustomed to. They have plenty of adults who will pick up a blade for them so that they don't have to.

As a child, you would have wanted to be ignorant? Protected?
