For those that are unaware of me, my name is Renly Baratheon. Times have been trying of late, I believe, and we have all been suffering ills that there are few words best to describe. It is for this that I would desire to offer myself as a helping hand or soothing ear for all that desire it or have found themselves lost or without an ally to aid in soothing their turmoiled emotions. You may find me through this network or in my rooms in the castle; the marking of a stag is upon my door and you will be greeted by my fawn, Laurel. I doubt it will be hard to miss.

My dear friends and kin; I would hope that I could meet you all sometime in the near future, once your own missions and duties are attended to. Surprises never seem to turn out all that well.

I suppose, with our blood, it tends not to.

[ Baratheons have shitty luck, apparently. ]

[Of late, anyone whose last name wasn't Tyrell seemed to have shit luck.]

You need not worry. I don't mean to drink myself to my death. I'll not become some drunken sot.

I am glad of it. I would hate to see you fall victim to the same fate as your father.

[bullhorned]

Gutted by a pig, you mean?

Is it really murder if it's a boar, though? I fancy my royal father was trying to kill it just as much.

He'd have had it if it weren't for the Lannisters, nephew. Don't forget that.

[bullhorned]

They did what? Made him drunk or found the boar?

Poisoned his flask. Destroyed his reflexes.

How did they manage to get away with all that? They killed the king and put their own bastards on the throne. Why did they win?

[He was angry. Not for the father he never knew, but that the Lannisters had done so much to rip the kingdom apart and simply got away with it.]

Because Tywin Lannister had all the gold in the realm, Cersei Lannister was a vicious, murderous bitch and my brother slaughtered me before I could do anything to save our kingdom.

[bullhorned]

And then the Wolf King fell after that. Seven hells.

[He frowned. It was all starting to form a clearer image in his head. He'd been seeing this all from the bottom, seeing only effect and not cause. Now that he knew that this war was so petty and stupid, he could only feel enraged at the senseless death it had brought with it. Not for lords and would be kings like Renly or Eddard of even Robb, but for all those bodies he saw on the King's Road and for the more bodies he found roaming with the Brotherhood. None of those men or women or children had ever aspired for power or took issue with wolf, lion, or stag. But they were dead all the same.]

Blame can be laid at many feet but, foremost, at the footstool of the Lannisters. Had my brother not slain me with ill means the night before our battle I would have come to King's Landing with an army greater than any could dare imagine and I would have freed the Starks. Of course, that was not how our world ended. Idle, wishful thinking will do nothing to aid us.

[ He wishes he could have done more for the realm, for his peoples, but he was murdered. Slain. Kinslayed, in the end of all things. The mass of people, of lives, that he might have saved sickens him even now. ]

[bullhorned]

It makes no matter now. You're dead and I've nothing to go back for. Better we're here than there.

[He could resent and despise the Lannisters until the cows came home, but it didn't matter here. They both had new lives to deal with and Gendry was plying his by expanding his trade.]

Truly. I admit that this place has faults of it own, but at least I have a life here.

[ Not just for him, but for Margaery and Loras too -- should Loras ever come back to his side. He ducks his head to hide the weight of the emotion that always seems to suffocate him when he thinks of lost love. ]

I am glad for this place. It has given me a chance to know you.

[bullhorned]

Don't talk like that. It makes you sound like some shriveled up septa.

[Seriously, Gendry is not equipped to deal with this kind of affection.]

[impeaches]

[ He laughs at that. ]

Oh, nephew, I think I have no place in the Sept.

[bullhorned]

Then best you don't talk like it.

[Gendry was slowly coming to accept Renly as part of his life. But this was slow and without much affection yet. It was enough he didn't despise his uncle and thought he would have made for a decent king.]

I shall learn to do otherwise, then.

[ He just shakes his head. Ah, young boys. ]

[Good enough. This introduces a lull in the conversation. Normally Gendry would be fine with that and just let it be. But he decides he might at least extend it a bit longer.]
