Open to both courts

[Tauriel looks at the locket with more familiarity this time. This at least was something she was comfortable with and it made announcing her reappearance a little easier.]

To those of you who do not know me, I am Tauriel of the Woodland Realm, previously of Mirkwood. To those of you who do know me, I am glad to see you once more, though I cannot say it is with any great joy. I am not happy to once again know that I have been recruited against my will to fight against those I deem dear to me. But I am glad to see familiar faces and know I am not alone. Can anyone tell me how long I have been away and what has happened? The last I remember was being in the Station.

I have reason enough to be troubled; much has happened since last we spoke, as I am sure you know already. [Which is, of course, an invitation for Tauriel to tell her how much she knows.]

[Tauriel takes a breath as she thinks about all the things that have been mentioned to her in the short time that she has been back. There are a fair number of them, and most of them are giving her mixed feelings.]

I know my king returned in my absence but that Legolas remains. And I know that there was some altercation from which much of the more war-like unseelie went off to fight, but I do not know the cause of this. I also know there are magic rings which can transport us across the land. I think that is all of it.

The battle of which you speak was fought for the sake of a Silmaril. At least one has found its way into this world and my cousin, Celegorm, saw fit to attach Caer Glaem when the child who possessed the gem would not relinquish it. It cost him his life and the lives of many others. [And this is why she looks so worn. It is a dreadful sort of repetition for her, the First Age of Arda placed on repeat. And once again, it feels beyond her control.]

[She had grown up far, far removed from the power and influence of the silmarils. But even so she still knew her histories well enough to know what a single one represented with even one of Fëanor's sons here in the Draubworld.]

I'm sorry to hear of your loss my lady. I had spoken once to him though I did not know Celegorm well.

[There is a short pause. She hates herself for asking, but the fear of the famed jewel is a very real thing.]

And the silmaril, what of it? Please tell me such a thing was destroyed. this world is fractious enough...

It is perhaps best that you did not. He burned brightly, my cousin, and in times of peace, his fire was a great warmth. But in conflict, there are few he did not burn.

[She pauses.] Last I knew it was in Makalaure's hands. It seems likely he would have destroyed it, but I do not know with any certainty. [Or even if he would be able to. At least without a forge. When Fëanor made things, he made them well.]

Perhaps the he will find peace in the Halls of Mandos.

[That was the only comfort Tauriel could think of.]

It would be better for this place if he does destroy it. Such a thing will only cause strife to those who have a covetous heart.

That is my hope.

[She's been hoping it for thousands of years. Strange, to mourn the same death twice.]

I do not disagree. Nor, I think, will he. He has thrown it into the sea once already.

Truly then, he is wiser than this father ever was... [She felt bad for speaking so negatively of Fëanor, but then, what little she knew of the Silmarils had greatly been influenced the Sindar who came east.

Which suddenly brought to mind something else that had troubled her. Of the first age Elves there were many, and while they shared a common language thanks to the use of the lockets, a great many of them spoke a language that had been forbidden to her...]

My lady, I have a favor to ask of you.

Perhaps. [It's no secret that Galadriel and Fëanor were often at odds.] Yet I do not know if he would have done so, had the gem not burned his hand.

[The last sentence, though, catches Galadriel by surprise. She gives a quick nod.] Name it and I will do what I am able.

...ah. [Tauriel can't suppress her startled look. The more she hears about this family, the more she just wants to side eye them.]

I was wondering my lady, if... you would teach me Quenya. It was forbidden in Arda, but we are no longer there, and I think it would be wise for me to know of it with so many of our people from Valinor about...

[She looks away blushing. Although the ban had been put in place so long ago and by a king that had long been dead by the time of her birth, she still felt as if she was committing treason in the asking.]

[Softly:] It was not forbidden in all of Arda. [Rarely used, yes, and much of the reason for that stemmed from Thingol's original ban- but there would have been no consequences for speaking it in Lórien, at the very least.]

I will teach you, of course. It is a beautiful tongue; I will admit that it has been a pleasure to speak it again. [It's become known in Middle Earth as 'the language of kinslayers,' she knows. But it will always be her mother-tongue and she can't help but hold affection for it. It's a lonely thing, sometimes, having so few to speak it with at home.]

Forgive me, my words... I have not had a chance to travel much so it was bannished in allt he places I knew.

[It had been forbidden in the Woodland Realm, an edict carried over from the time of Oropher down to his son and so for Tauriel it was as if it was banished from all of Arda.

That the Lady of Light ill teach her fills Tauriel with no small degree of satisfaction as she beams to her excitedly.]

Thank you my lady! I will try to be an attentive student.

[Which she knew was going to be harder than it sounded, as she was by her very nature, a creature of action.]

There is naught to forgive. It is rarely spoken, even in those parts of Middle Earth not under a ban; you are not far wrong, in the end.

[Oh, the way Tauriel lights up does make her smile. It's nice to see enthusiasm.][She doesn't know Tauriel very well, but some things are easy to guess.]

[She smiles all the more, glad that Galdriel had agreed to teaching her. In truth it was a bit overwhelming since she was so famous. She desperately wanted to be a good pupil.]

All that remains is a time and place for these lessons. I am to head for the Station as soon as possible, but I do not know where it is you are currently.

I am at the Station, at least for a time. It should not be difficult to arrange something.

This makes things much easier then! [In spite of herself she looked even happier, remembering only at the end that she should have a bit of decorum as she was talking to Galadriel.]

That is, I hope my lessons can begin upon my arrival.

I see no reason why they should not.

[Tauriel smiles again and inclines her head.]

I had best make hast in my travels then.

Make haste if you will, but do not sacrifice safety for speed. Take care, Tauriel.
