If anyone would like to go ice skating, please do feel free to join me in the unused gathering hall on the fifth floor of Caer Glaem. Skates can be provided for those who need them, as well as a quick skating lesson, if you've never had the chance to try before. I'll be here all day.

Oh! No, it's made of stone just the same as most castles. I only covered the floor of a room in ice. It's a gift of mine. One I've been learning to control better since my arrival here.

It can be pretty amazing sometimes, I have to admit. It's something I'm still coming to terms with, but the longer I'm here the more I've come to learn that it isn't the curse I grew up believing it was.

Sigrid is awake before the sun rises, finding an extra-early morning gives her a little more time to herself before work begins. She has a recently healed leg wound and has been encouraged to exercise to avoid the scarred muscle becoming too constricted. Since she's a girl born on a lake in the sub-arctic north, skating on ice is nothing new to her. She's no Olympian, but she's certainly at home.

Her fairy entourage, on the other hand--three wee creatures who followed her here for curiosity's sake--look considerably unsure of this business. One is perched on her shoulder when she first takes off. It gives a meep and holds on for dear life. As she gains speed, however, it starts shrieking in wild elation. The second buries itself in the warm pocket of her patched, worn coat, while the third sits on her head, holding her hair like reins.

[ Apologies, Elsa, some asshole is skating (bare-foot, because what a show-off) over those geometric snowflakes and covering them in sprawling fern-frost like he owns the place. Whoops. ]

Good intentions weren't enough to keep the ability in check, unfortunately. When I was younger, I hurt someone I care about with my powers, and after that I kept it a secret from the rest of the kingdom.

Oh, ice skating is very fun! Usually you would have to wait until the lake freezes over to skate, but I froze the floor of this room instead. And... Hm. To ice skate, you wear thin blades on the bottom of your shoes so you can glide along the ice.

It might be easier to just show you, actually. It's a little odd to explain.

If you'd like to, sure. There's a path along the outside of the ice, with plenty of chairs. I would still bring a blanket or a cushion to sit on, just in case. [ HEH SHEEPISH ] The room is likely very, very cold for anyone who isn't used to the ice and snow.

-- Mind if I ask why you won't be skating? It's really rather fun, once you get the hang of it.

I've always wanted to see snow. I read of it, of course and I even saw a picture of it once but I've never actually seen it. I never dreamed of ever going far enough to see it well I did dream but -

[ babbling, rapunzel ]

it's sort of hard to explain; well, it isn't, really but um.

[ nobody likes the mumbling. she sighs and rises from her chair, holding the locket so her length of hair can be seen. ]

It might make it a little difficult?

she actually doesn't mind that he's showing off, maybe some part of her feeds off of that confidence, likes being around it. like she could pick up some of it if she tried. however, once she notices the trail of frost he's leaving behind, she's fussing. she's on skates of her own creation, as usual, trying her best to catch up with him even if the ice is a little rough in his wake. ]

Other people would like to skate on this ice too, you know. [ fuss fuss lecture lecture. she sweeps her hand out around herself in a broad motion, leaving the patterns the same ( even if they mess up her gORGEOUS FRACTALS ) only smoothing them out, making the ice glassy smooth again ] Those of us who unfortunately need to wear skates in order to do so. Unlike some people, who can just glide around skateless on the ice without a care in the world.

[ Idly skating backward with his staff draped across his shoulders, he gives her the look of someone who holds very few hecks about people who aren't having fun by getting adrenaline kicks doing it their own way. Each foot kicks up a few snowflakes for her to skate through with Jack's easy gait pushing him over the rink at a steady glide. ]

Says you, skating in a long poofy dress.

If you must do this, search your ice. The fishermen say it won't hold, if it's thin, and healthy men have lost lives to it.

You've never seen snow? It almost feels like cheating to have you see it inside first, but I suppose the weather outside is too warm to try and show you a proper flurry. [ what was that about babbling ] No, no, the gathering hall will be perfect. I'll let Jack know, too. And-

[ oh. wow! ]

-- Your hair is so long. [ wow really? like she didn't know. talk about an Anna moment ] And beautiful! Really. [ her fingers reach to brush over her own braid with a smile ] I think I'm a little jealous. Although I can see how that might make ice skating a little difficult, yes. Hmm.

Oh, this is indoors, not out on the lake. The ice is a few inches thick, and there's only stone underneath. Perfectly safe, as far as whether it's too thin to skate on or not. I can't promise it won't be slippery, however.

[ yes, that would be Elsa stopping dead in her tracks ( with a cut into the ice, all very dramatic yes ) to hold out her arms and look over her dress, then immediately look up again to give him a sass-filled brow quirk. ]

My dress is not poofy.

Though I suppose you do have a point, my gown isn't very practical for skating.

[ not that she's going that much shorter, but she changes the skirt of her dress so that it's less long and slinky and more.. knee-length, and flowy like a figure skater's. congrats to anyone at the rink right now, they're all the first to ever see Elsa's shins ever. and she seems all too aware of the fact. this might be worse for her nerves than the baggy pants she wears when she's training with Korra ]

[ that shouldn't have come out like a question, but it kind of did, like she's still not used to using that word so casually. she clears her throat. ]

I created the ice using magic.

It's a little poofy-wafty.

[ Until it isn't, and Jack laughs as he circles around her to give it a poke with his staff; it adds an icy wisp or two. ]

I sincerely think you should consider wearing an article of clothing that won't melt if you stand in the summer heat too long.

[ she doesn't sound made, just a little shocked ]

I suppose? Though I'm not sure how you've managed to come to terms with a lot of what's going on here if you don't believe in magic.

[ her fingers lace together behind her back once she starts to skate again, pleased as punch with her ice clothes. she lets her skates turn out a bit so she can glide in a slow circle, her hands moving around her shoulders for a moment, until her top is an ice version of Jack's hoodie ]

Should I be looking for something more like this? [ she holds her arms out, turning her wrists in the cuffs. hm. ] Oo, it's roomy.
