Video | Open to both courts

[Tauriel had spent the better part of a day learning the functions of the locket by watching how others used the device and asking a few questions. So it was with some confidence that she appeared using the video function of it. She is still a little uncertain as to how to address people properly on this... whatever it is.]

I am Tauriel and it has come to my attention through the Lady Galadriel that both my liege and his heir are here as well.

[there is a momentary pause, as she debates if she should inquire for anyone else being here, then decides against it. For now her main concern is for them.]

Therefore, I am looking to speak with either of them. They are King Thranduil and Prince Legolas of the Woodland Realm.

[In the end, and almost impulsively, she adds afterwards:]

If there are others who know of me, I would be glad to speak with you as well.

...King Thranduil is absent from Caer Glaem, should that be where you currently find yourself. As is his heir. [ heir. she knows it's a strange word for their situation, but she apes what this unknown elf uses. ]

But doubtless your call will garner you some answer from either of them. Perhaps both.

[ Surprise is what colours the greater part of his tone, for she looks to be Silvan and sounds to be Silvan, she dresses as one of his captains; yet he cannot place her in his memory. He does not make a habit of forgetting the names and families of his guards, especially so young. There could be a dozen Tauriels in the Halls and he would know them all individually, there is no doubt about that.

He makes very likely a strange sight. Mirkwood armour, hair braided thickly over a shoulder and plains all around for as far as the eye can see, scrublands that the golden-maned, horned horse he rides traverses at a steady trot. Rarely did he travel from the Halls in Mirkwood and only then with a war cadre to lend aid to those who needed it or drive out the darkness, currently uncrowned and clearly having been on the road for some time.

The curious tilt of his head softens any frown he wears, watching her in fascination. ]

I do not know your face, Tauriel of Mirkwood, though I feel I could place everything else about you as truly as you state it. How long ere you rose to marchwarden?

I know you.

[Wide-eyed mini-Bard looking at you with wide eyes, Tauriel.]

You saved us.

It is no jest.

[ His words are unrelenting but not unkind, seeking to unravel the mystery of it. You've known me since I was a child and I have served you for nearly 600 years. Whether he knows her or not, the alarmed anguish in her tone alone is enough to have him commit to this. ]

These realms are cruel to those they bring thither, pulling those Ages apart together once more. That you are six-hundred tells me any fault here is mine, for I ought to know all those who call me Elvenking in such a short time, regardless of Allaidh Darach's interference.

[ Her garb, words, expression. None of it speaks of deception, he knows one of his own when he lays eyes upon them. ]

So I ask you again, to assist your liege-lord as the loyal vassal you appear; how long ere you rose to a marchwarden, my captain? Tell me the year as you know it, if you have one.

[ A soft noise leaves him, not a snort or a laugh but something in between. ]

I know the date. [ 2940, during the Mereth Nuin Giliath at Firith. The year Thorin's company thrice alarmed the revellers and broke out of the dungeons only to behave like a child at Erebor some time later. His sole redeeming quality in battle is what Thranduil prefers to remember.

Thoughtfully, he offers her the knowledge he is ever so slightly older than those days. ]

It is the year 290 of the Fourth Age, in my estimation. The Third has given way for me, Tauriel. There are events that have not yet come to pass for you, of which I know much more than I can speak freely.

[ Because MASSIVE BATTLE, EVERYONE DIES. ]

3021 was the last count of the Third Age, we stand apart by some two-hundred years.

[ Grey-blue eyes regard Tauriel, unblinking in patience. ]

I would have you at my side, if you would come. [ For Legolas's sake, he relents. ] My son is wounded and I require guards that would protect him.

[ It will also give him the chance to observe her reaction now, and perhaps later if she agrees. ]

[ Her concerns do not fall on deaf ears or blind eyes, and he can picture them standing in the Halls of Mirkwood, trusting her. ]

He was attacked and taken hostage by an elf that claims Caer Scima as his home. There was he brutally tortured for no crime save calling the Seelie companions he travelled with his friends, for he would not abandon them in their hour of need.

[ It's as much as he can speak of it, just the cold facts. He may as well be clear about the situation, if she seeks to join him. ]

I renounce all authority of the Seelie and Unseelie alike, and I do so too on behalf of my son. I do not intend to return with him to Caer Glaem, the southern fortress of a king and queen who would sell his skin to advance their own means.

Neither he nor I will be ruled by fools, whether they beg our aid or not.

[ Mirkwood Krew does what it wants. ]

[personal profile] firith 2014-06-03 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ How can she be Unseelie if she is one of mine? There is no shadow on her brow, none that I can discern, even over these devices. ]

You do not come from Caer Scima, [ he insists with a firm, level assurance, slotting where she wants to come from above where the Drabwurld has toyed with her to arrive, ] you hail from Mirkwood. That is the only allegiance that matters to me. I do not care about the wars of the these realms that would use Elves as playthings.

[ Hearing he has been disobeyed in some way, whether he recalls it or not, has him silent for a prolonged moment. ]

If you count loyalty toward none but the one you choose to name your lord then I find no fault in your actions, though I know them not. Elvenking you would call me, and I would answer with my protection and patience for such devoted service.

Same as you, I guess. [Sigrid isn't actually sure what she should say, here. She never got a good look at the elf Tauriel came in with, so it is Tauriel alone she has cherished in memory as her magical one-time experience with elves. Her hair, the brightness of her eyes, the dance of war and the healing of her hands. I saw an elf-lady once.]

I'm fine. I spoke with the Elvenking yesterday.

[Mind you she is only about 60% sure it actually happened and wasn't in her head.]

[ He remembers the days of which she speaks, but he recalls the orcs making their kennels in Moria, never travelling so far into Mirkwood until they skirted its northern border to come down upon its cusp at Erebor, where Thorin fell. Orc packs in the forest? The spiders would have destroyed anything that dared cross their territory. Them, or else ... yes, his marchwardens. If Legolas asked her to return, then surely orders had been issued. Thranduil's son is not one for dissent.

The look he gives her is one of near-to fatherly exasperation, holding the bulk of it but leaning his gaze on her pointedly. ]

If you returned in one piece, I can hardly fault you for anything but a lack of discretion in your disobedience.

[ Run, jump, kill orcs, just don't get slain in the process and he won't have to worry unduly. He arches a brow. ]

Kindly heed me here, from now on, if you will.

[ Where he'll actually remember it. ]

Safe as can be, I think. [Her tone doesn't convince anyone that "safe as can be" is really all that safe. Sort of a consolation prize for not being totally safe.] He said he'd be on the road a long while.

[ A short nod. ]

Meet with us at the Station, you should own a map that will point you in the right direction. Neither faction controls the ground there and it is said to be an independent land, though small. I will be there in a matter of days, if not a week.

Tauriel, the elf that maimed my son is named Celegorm. [ A warning for her to stay on her guard. ] Mind him, if he crosses your path, for he is mad with loyalty to the Unseelie.

[There's no small amount of surprise to see Tauriel's face appear inside the locket -- Fíli is certain that he would have seen her at the feast. Kíli would have.]

I know you. [But what he knows of Legolas is the elf prince's own business to share.] Have you just arrived?
