Video | Open to both courts

[Tauriel had spent the better part of a day learning the functions of the locket by watching how others used the device and asking a few questions. So it was with some confidence that she appeared using the video function of it. She is still a little uncertain as to how to address people properly on this... whatever it is.]

I am Tauriel and it has come to my attention through the Lady Galadriel that both my liege and his heir are here as well.

[there is a momentary pause, as she debates if she should inquire for anyone else being here, then decides against it. For now her main concern is for them.]

Therefore, I am looking to speak with either of them. They are King Thranduil and Prince Legolas of the Woodland Realm.

[In the end, and almost impulsively, she adds afterwards:]

If there are others who know of me, I would be glad to speak with you as well.

[ Tauriel may be the only person out of this group Alice is actually social with, which isn't a lot. She still keeps Maglor's warning above her head as well as Ganondorf's message. Man, this place is messed up. Innocently, she asks- ]

Are they family of yours?

[Tauriel is just now learning to be terrified of their party, so she is more on edge than before. Alice speaking to her causes her to start, but she quickly settles upon realizing it was the girl who was speaking.]

In a way. King Thranduil raised me as a ward of his and Legolas grew up as an older brother to me.

[ The feeling is sadly mutual right now with Alice. She's already on edge to begin with. It's another thing entirely to be told outright to stay away. Anything to get to the station. ]

I see. Are you will, Miss Tauriel?

[ She knows that she's been asked not to use the formality, she can't help it. The uneasiness is shared. ]

[Tauriel hesitates in answering. It is clear she wishes not to be heard by anyone else.]

As can be expected. I have been given news that disturbs me greatly. It seems we may well be in great peril.

[ It is bad enough with Maglor warning Alice, now this? Alice heaves a great sigh, holding her head. What happened now? ]

So I've heard.

[She frets in thought over how best to approach this subject, finally she just asks what is upon her mind:]

Have you sworn any oaths or spoken of fealty to him?

[ Alice nearly rolls her eyes as she scoffs at the notion. ]

Who would swear an oath to a stranger? I certainly have not; I only want to reach neutral territory.

[Well that was a small relief. Tauriel sighs and loos much more at ease.]

I'm glad to hear that you have not. I have been cautioned from doing so. The Lord Fëanáro is also known among my people by a different name, that of Fëanor. He is an Eldar of legend who is dangerous in ways even I can barely imagine. He will hold you to your word should you swear an oath, even if it means pitting you against friend and foe alike.

That's interesting.

He advised me to join him under extreme caution, even going as far as stating that he is not responsible for my safety, that I am. NO offense to your kin, But I don't think he sees any value in me, as a human.

And I prefer that over anyone demanding loyalty of me.

[which is to say she values that honesty. Even his own son warned her of his father. Alice doesn't admit that detail, perceiving that was told in confidence. Alice gives a light shrug; Feanor may be callous, but he's not stringing her along. Yet.]

I have your back.

[she knows she's small and looks as if she may blow away in the wind, but she means it.]

[Rather than think things through she speaks suddenly and with a fair amount of vehemence.] But he should be responsible for your safety. Capable though you may be, you are still a child. It should not fall to you to be forced to fight! [She pauses at her outburst, then, looks down realizing she is devaluing Alice's abilities.]

I know you can fight, I have seen evidence enough of that. [She remembers her drawing that vorpal blade.] But it should not be something that is encouraged. I am glad to have you at my back, and glad for your willingness...

[She doesn't know what to say now. She feels as if she had offended Alice with her quick words. And even if she has not, she is starting to pace while trying to sort out her words.]

Forgive me, I am on edge now knowing who we travel with. I do not wish to discuss it over this thing however, but if you are curious I might share a little of what I know later.

[ only a little. She has dealt with this perception most of her life. It is offensive, because she's been forced to do many things that she never wanted to do. Adults are supposed to care for children, not hurt them. She keeps those thoughts to herself, surprisingly quelling her anger. ]

Mind you, I have been forced to fight long before arriving here. This is the lesser of evils.

[ The lesser of evils. She's had her warnings and she only wants to bet out of the conflict, nothing else. ]

If you'd like. But I would rather have the callousness of Mr. Fëanáro than one who pretends not to be. I am not his child, I prefer to fend for myself than to entrust my safety and survival in another.

[ Which is to say something happened to her, something completely insidious. She may be lacking the details of Feanor for now, but at least he's not like previous adults she has associated with. Alice still has no idea of just how bad things really are. ]

I would not worry too much as long as you stay vigilant.

[Tauriel hopes she had not offended the girl too much with her quick words, but senses that it might have already happened.]

Vigilance is wise Alice Liddell, even if it is my hope that we do not need it while we travel. It is the most we can do until we know more of this land. Once we reach the station, I hope to learn more.

As strange for me to play devil's advocate, I don't think we have anything to fear, unless something rouses suspicion or worse.

[ Maybe she's a little too calm about this. The warnings are there and Alice is confident enough that nothing will happen. There is something about this man that seems like he won't react, if provoked. Hopefully, the longer they keep their heads down, the less likely he'll bother any of them. Then again, she knows nothing of how terrible their group leader is. ]

You'll be back with your king in any event, that will make it worth it for you.

[ And her? She's not sure what she'll do after that. ]

[Tauriel frowns at the strange word devil she has not heard its like before now and therefore has no idea how to react to her words.]

A moment Alice Liddell, what is a devil?

[ Given how the elves have been so far, the question isn't surprising. ]

It is a an equivalent of a spirit that once was benevolent that has long since fallen from grace. It's a figure a speech in my world.

We have... devils as well then... Is not an advocate one who would speak for another? Why would you then speak on behalf of one who has fallen?

Because it is good to see both sides, even if it is from a fallen one. An angel can be easily corrupted, just like a devil.

[And now she wonders what an angel is. Yay for no judeo-christian understanding. She is trying not to ask what an angel is, as it would derail the conversation yet again. At least she thinks she understands what Alice means by an angel. the concept of sn angel becoming corrupted is one she can well understand given Morgoth and Sauron both.]

Few might argue that to look from the enemy's perspective is to become the enemy. I do not know if I agree with such an understanding. Given that we are in a world beyond our ken, I think you are correct.

[ And all the more reason why she tends to be neutral. ]

You'll only become your enemy if you lose your head; to know what is really in their minds is hardly becoming them. You could look at it in the way that it makes it all the more easier to stop them.

That may be the truth for most people, but our most common enemy, and one that causes us lasting pain are Orcs... and they were originally elves tortured and corrupted by the great evil to become what they are now... Perhaps knowing that, you can see why we are reluctant to think like them for only pain suffering and madness lingers in their minds.

[ If that is the case, why not Feanor, Celegorm, and Maglor are not amongst them? While there's a lack of knowledge of their pasts, the implications are a little staggering. A soft hum comes from Alice, as she muses on the mention of suffering and madness.

God, doesn't she know it. She's done what she could to not become what she loathes. ]

A sentiment I can understand deeply far more than you know.

[Naturally Orcs sprang to m ind first because she is a baby elf and the events of the first age are far in the past and nearly legend even among elves for there are few among her people who even were alive back then.]

It seems then that we certainly have an undertanding then. I will not dictate to you the course of action you should take, but I do suggest that no decisions you make should be taken lightly should you choose to remain with Feanor.
