[Tauriel had spent the better part of a day learning the functions of the locket by watching how others used the device and asking a few questions. So it was with some confidence that she appeared using the video function of it. She is still a little uncertain as to how to address people properly on this... whatever it is.]

I am Tauriel and it has come to my attention through the Lady Galadriel that both my liege and his heir are here as well.

[there is a momentary pause, as she debates if she should inquire for anyone else being here, then decides against it. For now her main concern is for them.]

Therefore, I am looking to speak with either of them. They are King Thranduil and Prince Legolas of the Woodland Realm.

[In the end, and almost impulsively, she adds afterwards:]

If there are others who know of me, I would be glad to speak with you as well.

I understand well what it is you are saying. Are there others of your family with you or are you alone? [She remembered two other children, a boy and a younger girl. The news that her king was traveling causes her only a moment's hesitation.]

Then I shall have to hope my words will still reach him.

They will. Mine did.

[Somehow.]

How does he know my father?

[Since she doesn't even know her father, Tauriel is at an impasse on what to say.] Haltingly, she finally tosses something out, knowing this is not what the girl wishes to hear:]

I am uncertain... but it may have to do with him being from a time 200 years beyond... well beyond the time you and I both recall.

[Its strange thinking of him from the future. Elves can do so, but their society is almost completely geared towards dwelling in the past.]

I thought...since you came to save us, I thought he sent you.

[It's kind of disappointing to find you're not a secret benefactor of an Elven king.]

[Ahha well yes that's awkward.] I was tracking the orcs.[~~Who were tracking the dwarves.~~] and could not allow them to bring harm to innocents. [Or to dwarves.]

In a way you can say that my kind did send me. Even if it was not a direct command. [No it was more like a direct disobey, but hey she wasn't about to tell that.]

That does make sense, though. It's said you guard the river, though no one sees you.

[there is a soft smile hearing the stores mortals tell of her people.] We do. And some of the forest as well. What else do your people say of my kind?

The good, or the bad?

[Excuse the startled expression.] There are bad tales of us?

Some. Especially the one about how you steal babies from their cradles to raise as your own and leave your sick babies in their places. That one's rubbish, of course. It's just people wanting to disown a sickly child.

[The look of horror on her face is unmistakable. She cannot believe that people would do that to their children, or think that of the Eldar.]

We would never do such a thing! Children are precious and rare among my kind it is true, but each child is loved always. We as a whole are also rarely sick...

I'm glad you do not believe such tales... they are unfounded.

They are founded, just...not on truth. Some families are really poor and can't--

[Well, if Tauriel is horrified by that myth, she'll get really uppity over implied infanticide, won't she?]

...Sorry. They do say pleasanter things as well. And some are just queer. Some say the Elvenking's temper controls the weather.

[Her expression goes from outraged to bemused as Sigrid shifts tales to describing her king. She is still in shock that people would abandon their children so she does not at first see the humor in what was said.]

Your people have some strange ideas of Elves. Truly, I did not think we were viewed in such light. [She leans forwards frowning now.]

I understand my king can be tempestuous at best, but why the weather?

[She shrugs.]

So winter storms can get blamed on something. Or perhaps it was someone's jest got out of hand.

The woodsmen say some of their kind have come across merry gatherings at night, but when they stepped into the circle of light, they spend hours feasting and singing with you, but suddenly find themselves awake two days later and none of it really happened.

{The gatherings she could believe. It was not a lie that her kind liked to feast out under the stars. It also sounds as if they had drunk things like dorwinion wine.]

Sounds to me like they may have found themselves the butt of a joke. That or they were lost in the woods and wished to make an excuse of it.

[She was not going to admit to the forest being enchanted, not openly.]

[Sigrid nods, but she's deeply disappointed, somehow. That was one of the things she'd hoped was true.]

Probably the first one. Hardly anyone goes into the wood alone, and the companions say their friend slept for days for no reason they could tell.

[That gives her pause. She knows of the enchanted river that runs through Mirkwood. It served as one more protection for the halls of the king.]

That I can believe there is an enchanted river in Mirkwood. One that causes a deep sleep should you drink from it.

Oh.

[Okay, so there's some magic to the world yet.]

Why are you all so worried about protecting yourselves when you fight so well? Who attacks elves?

There are many things who seek to destroy us. Orcs and spiders for example... And the corruption to the south of us from Dol Guldur.

I thought that was more of the woods being sick from the Necromancer. I didn't know he attacked you.

[She doesn't quite get what's going on.]

Many evils pawn from there... such as the spiders. But it is of little concern now if we are trapped here. There is little that an be done now as I am trapped here it seems.

What's your name?

May name is Tauriel. Why do you ask?

Well...is there something else I ought to call you? But Tauriel is beautiful. I just...wanted to know.

... Forgive me. This place has me on a knife's edge. I realise now that I have not asked you your name either.
