[Tauriel had spent the better part of a day learning the functions of the locket by watching how others used the device and asking a few questions. So it was with some confidence that she appeared using the video function of it. She is still a little uncertain as to how to address people properly on this... whatever it is.]

I am Tauriel and it has come to my attention through the Lady Galadriel that both my liege and his heir are here as well.

[there is a momentary pause, as she debates if she should inquire for anyone else being here, then decides against it. For now her main concern is for them.]

Therefore, I am looking to speak with either of them. They are King Thranduil and Prince Legolas of the Woodland Realm.

[In the end, and almost impulsively, she adds afterwards:]

If there are others who know of me, I would be glad to speak with you as well.

[ Thranduil has clearly already replied, and John doubts Legolas will, but- well, he may as well speak up. ]

[She is not sure if she should say he travels with good company or to keep an eye on him as he seems to be not quite the king that she remembers.]


I was not aware my King had taken any of the race of man into his services, but I am glad he does not travel alone. this place seems fraught with dangers.

I wouldn't say I'm in his service. I'm friends with him and Legolas both.

[ And that is why he rides. ]

It is. I'm going to assume you're armed?

It is not unheard of for my king to form alliances with the race of man. [she nods. It had been the only highlight in finding out she had been kidnapped.] I was lucky that my weapons were brought here with me. Why do you ask?

For one thing, there are people here who think that what was done to Legolas was right. [ He had known people like that, had-- not condoned their actions, but he certainly hadn't stopped Goat from taking scalps from the dead either, had he? ]

For another, I've heard the forest south of Caer Scima is a dangerous one -- and there are people here who will target you because you're female.

[It takes all her self control not to get verbal about how wrong and cruel torture is. Biting her tongue is a skill she had learned to use in the Woodland Realm. When she finally has enough control to speak civilly she starts:]

I can see why you worry if I am armed or not... I assure you again that I will be on my guard. Anyone who wishes to cross my path shall soon find that I am not an easy target.

[Imp ambush aside.]

[ Thranduil doesn't seem the type to promote anyone who doesn't deserve it in one way or another. ]

Unfortunately I do not think that is much of an option. [She doesn't wish to insult the race of man, but the need for constant rest does create some dilemma.] Many of my fellow companions require rest.

I'd suggest tying them to the horse, but the horses need rest, too. [ SIGH. ]

It seems you understand all too well the dilemma I face. I might risk traveling across the land on foot, but there is one human here at least of whom I feel the need to protect.

Thranduil kept getting ahead of me.

That does not surprise me. We do not travel with the race of men often so for us to slow our pace is sometimes hard to do, especially when much is upon his mind.

[She is totally sorry for her king, even if he is the nicer version.]

Have you arrived safely to this station then?

My pace is fine. My horse, not so much.

[ But that's getting too close to the whole "not entirely human anymore" thing. ]

Not yet. I'm sure he'll get ahead of me again.

These horses are not like the elven bred ones of my world, it is true.

[While she can understand that sentiment very well, Tauriel at least would not be too surprised. After all there was a race of men who had greater endurance than those of common mortals.]

I am certain you will keep any distances between you short.

I'm guessing ones bred by elves have better stamina?

[ A nod. ]

I will.

They are also fleet of foot. It is a shame they are rare within the Woodland Realm. We have not the lands nor the means to stable many there.

That could be changed, here.

Do you think we will be here so long as to breed a line of Elven horses?

[She really does not like that idea. Not at all.]

[chromosomes]

Way I hear it, this war's been goin' on for a long time. We might be.

[tawarwaith]

Forgive me if I am not overjoyed to hear such news. [She closes her eyes and sighs heavily.] If that is the truth, then we may yet see horses bred by Elven hands.

[chromosomes]

You wouldn't be the only one. But at least that's... some sort of silver lining.

Is this optimism common among among humans or is it unique to you?

Honestly? I'm not usually considered an optimist.

Is there not a first time for everything?

That's what people say, at least.
