[ There are two brown puppies eating a Christmas pudding off the floor when the camera activates, little tails wagging as they trip over paws that they have yet to grow into. Their muzzles are oddly long even now, but they're not quite as bulky as they will be -- not yet.

A quiet chuckle from behind the locket reveals, to those who may have heard it, the surprising owner of the pups -- the Outsider. The smaller of the pups looks up from the pudding at the sound and scampers over, whining and pawing at his legs until the Outsider bends down to scoop the little one up. The locket, which is floating in midair via magic, is pushed back -- just in time for any viewers to watch as the pup attempts to burrow into the Outsider's shirt. ]

You are unlike others of your kind, little one, [ the god murmurs, smoothing a hand over floppy brown ears. The other pup is still eating the pudding, though at this point it looks more like she's getting in a fight with it. ]

In my world, Wolfhounds are kept and trained by Overseers of the Abbey to hunt heretics. That I should now have a pair myself is rather ironic and more than a little amusing. But then, they are terribly intelligent creatures.

[ The small pup licks at his chin and he starts, blinking. The locket turns off just as his mouth twists up until a slight smile. ]

There was a time where shadows walked the realm, sought out people to eat. Dogs were the only thing that would drive them away. Perhaps they are more useful than they first appear.

[ Especially since his are puppies and one has stuck its head down his collar. ]

[ You know, that comment would be ten times more effective if the puppy wasn't doing that. As it is, the Doctor just has to stare at the puppy for a moment. ]

They'd have to grow up a bit to be useful to anyone— appearances aside. [ A pause, because he wants to make sure he understands. ] This realm?

[ Yeah this puppy is kind of. ... Different. ]

Yes.

[ Different. As in the lone cuddly booger in the bunch. ]

Any kind of dog, I'm assuming. No sign of them since then?

[ Try the whole breed. ]

None. Though that does not mean they won't return, of course.

[ You could take it to a puppy show for the breed and get first prize in cuddling. ~~I don't even know why that's making me laugh so hard and yet.~~ ]

Of course not. Shadows have this annoying tendency to be around every where and you can't even get rid of the normal ones. Keeping all of them, then? Creating your own pack of hounds?

[ and then it would probably be drowned or something :( ]

There are only the two. But yes, I will keep them. I assume they will breed, when they are old enough.

[ :( But cuddling is important. You can kill things easily if they're disarmed by cuddles. ]

Two can be considered a pack to some but you're keeping the theoretical future ones as well?

[ Doctor, no. Just don't go down this train of thought. ]

[ Well that's true. ]

That is something I have not yet decided. I know several who like these ones; perhaps they would like one.

[ See, it's just very shortsighted to drown the cuddly one. It could be super useful. ]

And you actually think they'd know how to take care of it.

[ People in Dunwall are not known for being forward thinkers. ]

Yes. Some are... certainly interesting. Others... [ he waves a hand, dismissive. ]

Yes, basically. Hardly worth the time of anyone.

And yet they keep insisting that they take up time. Like they're incredibly important when most of the time they definitely aren't.

Exceptionally. And they don't shut up when you tell them to, either. Just keep talking and talking until you leave and make sure to never come back just to avoid them.

This is why I tend to observe things, in my own world. Much easier to ignore those types when you don't speak to most people.

[ There's a twitch in the Doctor's eye at the observing part of what the Outsider's saying before he ends up letting out a small chuckle. ]

There's always that one that that's interesting enough that you have to talk to them though. Or persistent enough that you can't help but be slightly charmed.

[ "Slightly". ]

[ Slightly. ]

It's true. And even should they become boring for a time... circumstances change, and that light may shine again. And then you remember the potential.

And you're yanked right back into their orbits. [ Universe's largest sigh. ]

The Doctor. Something tells me we'll be in touch more often beyond this.

[ Something tells him. No it's the Doctor marking the Outsider as something very interesting in his head. ]

If you breed them, put me on your list of people who might enjoy one. It's been ages since I've had an animal around.

I shall. You will find them refreshingly intelligent and loyal, should you take the time to train them properly.

[ And he's rather certain that the Doctor, of all people, will. ]
