Imps.
[ it's a singular word accompanied by the image of a very unamused and unimpressed older face with eyebrows that even if you couldn't see his mouth might actually show off his displeasure all by themselves. it's clear that he thinks this entire thing is stupid and arguably not real, but then again, robin hood shouldn't be real and he certainly did run into him. ]
There's a planet or two like this. Populated only with small, very— annoying bug creatures. I hate those planets. [ see also: i hate here. ] Try to avoid them unless someone wants to go see them.
[ that's not actually the commentary he means to make about here, but he can't entirely resist it. he clears throat. ] Of all the versions of me to drag here you choose me. Have to wonder if there's something a bit off in your heads. Then again, there's imps and fairies around and involved. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised if there's something off.
[ he sighs. ] If you can take a moment away from whatever it is you're doing right now. I know it's important to you— but this is a bit important to me and it'll take a minute. And it won't kill you to take that minute to listen since you already are. [ he also doesn't entirely care what everyone else is doing right now, but manners, achieving the goal of actually getting someone to pay attention. ] I'm missing a person. My ca— Clara. Her name's Clara, about— [ he motions somewhere south of his shoulder that is a horrible approximation of her actual height. ] that high, wide face. Bossy little thing. Tell her the Doctor's looking for her and that I need to see her even if she doesn't want to see me. I need to make sure she's in one piece if she's here.

[ Why? ]
It might actually be worse than a waste. But I'll take a guess and say you don't care about that.

[ So maybe he is being purposefully contrary ]

And there are those who say that nothing I do will change anything, true enough. But [ so softly it seems as if he has forgotten his audience, for a moment ] if I can aid even one person. Even one light, to hold it against the dark. It would be enough.

The Doctor is silent for a moment after Maglor seems to forget he's there. He hasn't quite anticipated that happening and there's a part of him that wants to poke at it and see just how true that is with Maglor. To see just how true his desire to help even one person is because that's— something he can agree with. He may be more of a realist now and know that sometimes that one light can burn out even if you keep it lit but there's still a part of him that enjoys the idea.
But he can't— he doesn't want to press because this isn't— he doesn't want to deal with it just yet. Later, perhaps, but not now. In the end, the Doctor manages to exhale quietly and keep about the most neutral face he can. ] Every light can be extinguished eventually. Do what you want, I don't care. I've got to— I need to meet up with her and she gets miffed when I'm late.

All things end, tis true. But a single light can be enough to bring hope, and I cannot find any fault in that.
[ A small wry smile ] Ah, and that would be a dangerous thing indeed, to court the lady Clara's wrath. Good fortune go with you then!
