Imps.
[ it's a singular word accompanied by the image of a very unamused and unimpressed older face with eyebrows that even if you couldn't see his mouth might actually show off his displeasure all by themselves. it's clear that he thinks this entire thing is stupid and arguably not real, but then again, robin hood shouldn't be real and he certainly did run into him. ]
There's a planet or two like this. Populated only with small, very— annoying bug creatures. I hate those planets. [ see also: i hate here. ] Try to avoid them unless someone wants to go see them.
[ that's not actually the commentary he means to make about here, but he can't entirely resist it. he clears throat. ] Of all the versions of me to drag here you choose me. Have to wonder if there's something a bit off in your heads. Then again, there's imps and fairies around and involved. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised if there's something off.
[ he sighs. ] If you can take a moment away from whatever it is you're doing right now. I know it's important to you— but this is a bit important to me and it'll take a minute. And it won't kill you to take that minute to listen since you already are. [ he also doesn't entirely care what everyone else is doing right now, but manners, achieving the goal of actually getting someone to pay attention. ] I'm missing a person. My ca— Clara. Her name's Clara, about— [ he motions somewhere south of his shoulder that is a horrible approximation of her actual height. ] that high, wide face. Bossy little thing. Tell her the Doctor's looking for her and that I need to see her even if she doesn't want to see me. I need to make sure she's in one piece if she's here.

Have you been to any planets with dragons?
video;
Depends on what you call dragons. [ Because they might not have been called that there but they're similar enough that it's not outside of the realm of possibilities that they're near the same thing. ] Technically yes, I have.
[ He wasn't going to say it but— ] Do you frequently use your locket and fly at the same time?
video;
[ The locket, having been looped with much longer rope rather than its usual chain, is easier to hold out and show to Toothless, who turns his head slightly to give a curious warble and peer with one big green eye. When Hiccup is on view, the clouds are visible at his back and occasionally the strong beating wings at his sides can be glimpsed at the edges of the screen.
The whole sight lifts and drops by degrees, again and again, but that can't be helped. ]
I've got a pretty broad definition of dragons. Surprise me? What were they like? Did they breathe fire or were they ice-spitters?
video;
[ It's rare that the Doctor gets to see things that he's not seen before. Comes with the territory of traveling all throughout time and space. You start to run into the same things more than once ( or more than ten times or twenty ) but there's enough to keep him amused. Seeing Toothless warble and peer earns a slightly demented grin from the Doctor just because it's new and oh, he likes this.
Even if it the shifting view is a bit much if he stares for too long. ]
Fire-breathing usually. One didn't breathe anything but they also might not have counted since they could walk on two legs and didn't fly because they were too civilized for that. [ A pause. ] Ice-spitters. I've never run into any of those. Doesn't mean they don't exist but— I've never seen them. They had an annoying tendency to be green. With the exception of a few.
Is yours black or is the view playing tricks on me? [ He's assuming that Toothless actually is a dragon, but at this point, what else could he be. ]
video;
They didn't fly? I've seen dragons with no legs, but they all tend to enjoy flying itself.
[ Hiccup briefly turns the locket to show a three-sixty from his seat above Toothless's neck; all around one wing, to a half-prosthetic tail, to another wing, a fake leg latched in place where another stirrup should be, and back to a sleek head. ]
This is Toothless, he's a Night Fury. They're the fastest and smartest dragons around, usually they fly under cover of darkness. He has huge eyes to compensate for night-vision and a kind of blast-based echolocation, if you met him you'd be able to tell he's more analytical than your regular Rarr-Fight-Blast type.
I've seen an ice-spitter, it's the alpha species. The Bewilderbeast. I'm pretty sure those are almost as rare as my buddy here, though. [ Which is, really, the point of Hiccup asking in the first place. ] You've ... never seen a Night Fury before, have you?
video;
[ The Doctor actually peers at the locket, trying to take in everything that's being shown to him. Now that's a work of art if he did say so himself. ]
I can tell that just by looking at him. Or— the peering and warbling at me might have clued me in. Wish I spoke his language, it's always hit and miss for me with these things. [ Although— maybe he could. He might try it later. ] Bewilderbeast. That is a mouthful and— a bit ironic if you look at it the right way.
[ There's a pause where the Doctor looks like he's debating just what he wants to answer and how he wants to answer. When he finally does it's with a question. ] If I say no do I get to see him in person at some point?
[ And if he were any other person there might be a please at the end of that, but he's not. ]
video;
Rapid winds would be fun.]He speaks Dragonese but he also understands pretty much anything humans say too. He's clever, like I said. [ The Bewilderbeast comment gets a chuckle, as does the rest. ] If you want to meet us, we're usually at the Station as often as not. It's neutral ground away from the courts, and you can get free lodgings in the underground bunkers. Swing around, sometime, we'll probably cross paths. You can't exactly miss a dragon.
video;
Until you get knocked off and then it's a little problematic.]I meant so I could translate it into something other than Dragonese. [ But he'll take your word for it, until he actually sees Toothless in person. ] I've been known to. Miss dragons that is. Better at paying attention now but as a warning. It's honest neutral ground? Not just by default because no one's— decided to claim it?
[ It's an important clarification he wants to make because he's seen it on the map but— neutral places aren't always all that neutral in his experience. ]
video;
video;
[ Right no, moving on. ] Maybe that's why it's neutral. They don't care for technology, some people do— [ ...Kind of sort of definitely him. ] The fairy ring lets it stay mostly confined to there and not around everywhere else. Ruining— the aesthetic and views everywhere else.
[ Never mind that he does think that's partially bullshit, he can see the faint logic in it. ]
